Photo Of The Day - December 2020

So I looked out the window and saw this hawk in my backyard. He dove into a shrub, presumably because there was something of interest inside. While this was going on, a squirrel approached along the fence and came up right next to the shrub. I thought that maybe this squirrel was unaware of the danger inside. What happened next, I couldn't believe--the squirrel dove into the bushes and attacked the hawk! This happened not once, but twice, until the squirrel successfully chased the hawk away. I wish I could have grabbed a video of it, but it was too hard to see what was going on. Still, I've never seen such a thing before.

Very nice shot and fun story. Squirrels are tenacious! I’ve seen one annoy a Bald Eagle enough that it eventually flew off. Fantastic stuff.
