Very nice- care to share the location?

Thanks, Compuwar! My very own "back yard," which is a small "lake" (actually a manmade storm drain retention pond, but "lake" sounds nicer!)..... It is partly iced-over right now and yesterday with the bright blue sky and the sun, the water was highly reflective. I had looked out my window and saw a pair of different ducks, a species which looked unfamiliar to me, so grabbed the camera and a coat, stepped out on my second-level balcony and started shooting. Turns out that these are ring-necked (or ring-billed) ducks. First time I've seen them around here.

I used the 300mm f/2.8 with the 1.7x TC on the D300. I had to prop the gear against my balcony railing since the tripods are out in the car....

I love photography, hated that I had to sell all my gear to pay for university this year, but I've saved enough to get back in, this was with my canon P&S from summer in MI. I wish I had my SLR then, could've exposed it better!

Well, the exposure looks spot-on to me...

Another portrait. I was really inspired after seeing Richard Avedon's Portraits of Power at the Corocan gallery near the White House on Thursday. It was a stellar show and the girl in the last photo and I are in the same major so we played around with shooting some portraits in a light box :)

here's my try .. first picture i've ever posted here too.

I think the amazing thing is this was taken with just two small desk lights lighting the room.

I just got the D90 this week so its all new to me

Fantastic shots in this forum :)

Great shot, you pretty much nailed this on the head !

This is the only shot I managed to grab while travelling through Doylem's kingdom a couple of weeks ago. Its a bit dreary but thought I'd post it anyway.

Thanks very much zioxide.

As everyone has said, wonderful picture Paulimac24. Easily one of my favorites I've seen here :)

I posted this one in the weekly contest earlier.

Cold White Throated Sparrow

Sony a700 w/ 70-300 SSM G Lens
1/160 f/5.6 ISO 1600

The White-throated Sparrow sings its breeding song of "Oh Sweet Canada Canada Canada" across the most of that country.
Although its breeding range barely extends outside of Canada, it is common in fields and hedgerows throughout the eastern United States in winter.
It is found in urban areas more frequently than most sparrows.
