Please try a couple with fill flash- as long as the subject->background distance is good the aperture won't make too much difference.
Founds by the side of my house this morning when I was putting the rubbish out.

Wow, I do like this. Never mind the rule of thirds, this just works. Such contrast - colour, tone, shape, so many shades of green - and the flower looks OK down there in the corner. The only thing I'd change is to crop the 'busy' top section, a smidgin above the top part of the leaf on the left, to 'tighten up' the composition and stop the eye wandering away from the subject (and I might have nipped off the dead petal...).
And flower shots normally leave me cold...

Since we're on the subject ... trying the 90mm macro.
First attempt at one of those nifty flower shots you guys take. It was raining and my camera was getting wet so yeah. Taken on a Canon HF10 (Non DSLR)

We seem to be ploughing a similar furrow with the landscapes... but I'm wondering if your grey grad is a little too strong. In some of your shots it's turning cumulus clouds into storm clouds.
A weaker grad would still give depth and 'modelling' to the clouds, but would make them look just a bit more natural. What do you reckon??

Nice, I'd have moved whatever stem or grass caused the shadow over the petals though. That looks very*sharp- what do you think of the lens?
These are the skies we have been having in Southern Ontario this summer. Some days we get a mix of clouds and storms have been rolling through quickly. I think on the shot you are specifically talking about, there may be a little vignetting that I get from the Conkin grad holder that I missed cropping out. One of the things I hate is losing that 2-3mm on the 17-40 lens.
