The old 'Grumpy's Brewhaus' was a hotspot for good beer and food in a relaxed country atmosphere in the hills here, located within a German influenced town popular with tourists, locals and the city-slicker blow-ins or Sunday drivers.
About ten years ago a mishap happened with the wood fired pizza oven flue, causing a fire that damaged the place beyond repair and it sat boarded up until late last year, when it was demolished to make way for a new upmarket eatery and boutique beer brewery to be created in its place.
I negotiated access to the venue prior to demolition for documentary purposes, both in photographic and video manner, for the purposes of creating a small documentary film about it. The building works are finally about to kick off after some very prolonged negotiations with the local council planning and development team!
There is a series of documentary filmmaking exercises that I have on the go, covering a rather diverse range of places undergoing either re-purposing, restoration, renovation or demolition for new builds. These are slow processes to occur, with some being two year investments of my time to create the end short documentary film of up to ten minutes in length. I am including a range of interviews with key players, past workers, current owners, architects and am even covering some of the unique architectural building processes too, but my primary focus is on people and their connection to place, rather than building or achitecture. The TV show 'Grand Designs' does this, but with the weighting more on the building process rather than the human interest, I will be switching that around and have no intention of creating a TV show, but am rather, creating a portfolio of works as a showcase for future clients, when I finally reach a point of starting to charge for my services!
May I present to you, the old 'Grumpy's Brewhaus' as she was in May of 2019.
