Beautiful. Apparently they were visible here in Scotland recently.
Thank you!
Yes, I believe that the Auroras reached a Kp5 that night over Alaska, but it may have been even higher in other parts of the world. Back in the 1980's while visiting Northern New York, the Auroras could be seeing illuminating the sky. Solar activity was quite high in 2011through perhaps 2014, too.

But the Auroras forecast I use is this one "The Aurora" (the Northern Hemisphere map at the right of the webpage):

I just call them purple flowers.
Oops, late again! I may be wrong but they could be Ipheion uniflorum. They look more like those than Chionodoxa. Happy to be corrected!

Brilliant! This is just sumptuous!

Love this photo! Why is it tagged, do you know?

It's strange, because we only live about 30 miles from London, yet I'm so familiar with the sights that I've never bothered to take photos ;)
Maybe I should take my camera next time we go up there.

Cheers :)

Hugh
Definitely do that! I'm about 50 miles from London and about once a season I go into London with my camera, have coffee, do a few errands while I'm there. I've been missing doing that this past year. I really enjoy it as a day out

Cottonwoods along the Oldman River in FortMacleod. I had posted the B&W version of this elsewhere. Here it is in full exaggerated colour, from last weeks day trip. Actually the sky colour is almost spot on, it's the rest of the image that needed all the help it could get. It was beige, grey and bland as we inch our way through what we refer to as Still Winter.

A reminder: ONE image post per day, please.....

Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

If working with an image and wanting to share alternative crops and such or to ask for help with resolving issues with the image, please start a discussion thread in the Digital Photography subforum. Thanks!
