The smaller boulder is a Glacial Erratic from the Wisconsin Glaciation ~12K+ years ago. It was carried by a 1000+ foot glacier and eventually ended up on atop this ~400+ million year old Manhattan Schist (aka Manhattan bedrock). Taken in Central Park with iPhone 8.

I keep thinking I have used this shot but the evidence says otherwise. Anyways I am normally pretty competent at shading the lens but sometimes I'll miss and get lens flare. This one I happen to like.

macguru212 posted a lovely photo of an erratic in Central Park.

Here is something that puzzled the founders of the study of geology. Common sense tells us that in stratified rocks the oldest rock is at the bottom and the youngest lies at the top. So what is going on here?

The old grey schist, approx 1000 million years old, is on top of the young white limestone, about 500 million years difference.
