heritage buildings in Penang

...and this is a photo of a newer building not on that list?

Sorry about that :( Some of the older buildings that might be listed look like this. There are thousands of such buildings in Penang.

Wherever I hang my hat...
Are we all getting in a bit of a photographic rut? How about venturing out of our 'comfort zone', to find something we wouldn't normally shoot?? Different subjects, different styles. What do you reckon, folks?

So it's surfer girls for me...

In the meantime here's another shot of a duck...

mmm, frost. yummy. ( it's over 25 degrees over here). I don't like the unnatural blue sky though. Did you do anything to it?
When taking photos outdoors quite often I fit a polarizing filter to the lens, other than that it's unmanipulated.

Photography taken about a year ago. Temperature here today is a very pleasant 22 C ... :)

Really like this pic - simple shapes and tones - though the three elements of the pic seem very separate. The eye wanders around the pic, but doesn't quite know where to settle... if that makes any sense... ;)

Thanks Doylem. The castle by itself didn't look very interesting, but the composition started to make sense once I included the tree. I really wanted to capture the light - I love the light at dusk - and thought it was best to keep things simple.

What would happen if you cropped out the bit at the left? So that you then would have two elements in the composition rather than three? Do you think that would add to the impact of the photo?

Like this?

What do you think?

I prefer the original.

I think an even more dramatic crop helps. IMO the (nearly) square format also helps. Anyone agree?

Messing about in boats... on the lake, yesterday. The odd 'stagey' look is just the lighting... with a storm brewing at the back...

I love this shot, "Swallows And Amazons 2 - The revenge" ;)

Really nice shot Valdore, the colours and detail are great.

From a recent trip to the local zoo.

I agree with Doylem about being stuck in a rut however I wanted the Surfer Girls ! I guess that leaves me to chase sheep and ducks up and down the lakes & fells :D

I can see that it works in a way...as a picture of the castle, with the tree providing a partial frame - but the way I look at my original is that it's essentially a picture of the tree, silhouetted against the sea and sky, partially framed by the land at each side...but with the tree being the main subject.

But that's just me and it doesn't really matter what my intentions or approach were. The photos have to speak for themselves. It's very helpful to know how other people see things and respond to them
