I sometimes use xfuse to make "photographs" like this one (merged nine autumn-pictures into one).

My son at 7 months. He's been pretty much my only subject lately, he's becoming so active it's hard to get those great shots. Decided a b&w worked better and added some vignette as well as WB adjustment (shot in his nursery) and cropped a small part of the crib out.

Great shot. Funny that you talk of your only subject lately. I don't suspect that will change for a long time ;) Shoot lots of pics.

[edit] Using time machine, I was able to re-post of wood/bear with more "neck" - thx "Designer Dale" for suggestion this is better.
Makes me wonder is a little of fill light underneath would have made shot#2 work, I like the dramatic look of that slightly better.

The composition on dog/dog is fine, but wood/dog suffers from Thing Out of Head Syndrome. The data on the photo interests me. Did you really need ISO 800 to shoot this 1/400@f5.6? It is too well lit for that. The sun seems high judging from the shadows under the eves. Mid-day light tends to be harsh and this may look warmer shot later in the afternoon. The textures in the fur are intriguing and the eyes are expressive. The backdrop is a bit too in-focus for me. something like an f stop of 4.5 may have blurred the posts more. I was never able to do anything like this with my last dog.

I like the b/w film look to this... noticed you pushed a couple of stops, is that right? Even at 1600 it would be hard to get a fast shutter speed, but overall I don't think that matters - the mood of the shot is clear. I'd increase the level of the black in the shot to bring up the contrast and add a bit of punch, but it's always nice to see someone keeping the old film tradition alive...

xFuse

I found it at http://www.kekus.com/for_reg_users/

"XFuse is a Mac OS X front-end for the Enfuse exposure blending tool. Enfuse merges images using the Mertens-Kautz-Van Reeth exposure blending algorithm. The result is an image where details are present in the highlight and shadow areas without the need to create a high dynamic range image and then attempt to adjust to a format usable for printing or web viewing. XFuse is designed to either process single image sets or folders full of images."

I tried it and it works well. Very cool stuff.

thanks.
yes the film is pushed to iso 1600. the negative has a better tonal range and sharpness, but without a film scanner it's hard to capture that.
