As you've probably guessed, I like this monument. More of a blue-hour take this time. Comments always appreciated.

Love this picture. It is really really nice. Drive past on the motorway and always seem to be in a rush to reach somewhere else so never stop off for some shots.

Off topic I suppose, but I've always wondered: do people having ivy or trees growing along a house wall, do they have problems with ants?

There can be several reasons:

They like the look of it.
To help wildlife, it makes great nesting when thicker and the flowers provide for insects late in the year.
It adds an extra layer of insulation to an old house.
In a more modern house it covers up a boring façade.

However, the plant in the photo is wisteria and it has long chains of beautiful mauve or white flowers in the late spring. It was probably planted because it's beautiful and enhances the house. I've never heard of planting against ants. The ants we have in the UK are pretty small and benign, more a nuisance than anything.

Many thanks Kenoh - don't get up there myself often enough. Here's one with the lights on - could do with a bit of post to reduce the range of contrast but it gives the overall impression. Comments always appreciated.

Beautiful. I really like the colour combination of rich blue tones with gold. It is a treasure for us. I need to get up there and grab a few myself. The castle too. Strange living near things of interest there never seems to be a great rush to explore them. We say we live in boring places and yet if I hang a right to here instead of a left for Blairdrummond, you get this. Sometimes we just dont realise the beauty around us.

Yosemite is nice but we do awesome castles! Thanks for posting. I would use that as wallpaper on my computer.

Much appreciated Kenoh. I've a couple more of the university campus at the foot of the monument to post in the next couple of days. The castle is IMHO the best in Scotland and well worth a visit.

I liked how the view of the lamppost at the corner of my street through the branches of this tree looks like some kind of vortex.

Really nice shot with great atmosphere and colours anotherscotsman. Two minor suggestions based on personal preference…

- If you've cropped this and have any room left over, I would move your framing down just a touch for a little less sky and just a bit more of the grass at the bottom. The grass at the bottom appears to be too thin a slice and feels a bit awkward to me.

- There appears to be a small white building on the left side that I would clone out.

IMO, this is a great frame worthy shot.

Sideshow Bob

Spotted outside a window in Upnor ...

Remind you of any Simpsons characters?

Cheers :)

Peter, many thanks for your comments - looking again after reading them I think you are absolutely right but unfortunately there was nothing left at the bottom of the frame...typical. The white building is the university principal's residence - not a bad outlook.

Oblomow, whilst Stirling University is not as ancient as many others in the UK (1967) IMHO its campus is unsurpassed for setting and is situated on an old country estate (Airthrey) landscaped in the 18th century.

Thanks again, I'm always happy to learn.
