The mud of Morecambe Bay...

Not getting much chance to take pics now the nights are drawing in. The light is pretty much gone by the time I get home from work.

Same here. Having a day job kinda sucks (except for the part where it pays for my photography-related expenses, hehe).
John, I spent a week in Lancaster while my better half attended a university workshop. The scenery in the region was just so new and wondrous. It was my first and only trip to the UK. The uni took us all on a tour to the lake district too! We might have passed your "shack" ! This was well before I knew POTD existed. Locals were expounding on the dangers of the Morecambe mud and the death of some immigrant workers years ago.
Morecambe Bay has claimed a lot of lives, over the years. Bizarrely, the old road from Lancaster to what is now Cumbria used to be across the sands (to go around the estuary, to the first river bridge, added many hours to any journey on foot or horse). For centuries there have been 'guides to the sands', to help people across. There are quicksands and fast flowing tides: very dangerous. And, yes, 14 Chinese cockle-pickers died about 10 years ago; they were out on the sands when the tide turned. The tragedy was made worse because they were employed by gang-masters, and paid a pittance for their work...
A local reservoir...

What's a 'cockle-picker'? Never heard that term before.
PS: Fascinating stuff. Always been fascinated by quicksands and the such.
I'm not sure how I feel about this one from Pompeii. Part of me doesn't like it, but I keep coming back to it for some reason when I review pics from the trip.

Very nice. We don't get much action photography on here. This guy was an amazing wakeboarder.... he was getting 6'-8' jumps consistently. Last year on the lake he was doing a tandem pull, and his brother jumped over him.... I wish I had a camera for when that had happened.
