Not getting much chance to take pics now the nights are drawing in. The light is pretty much gone by the time I get home from work.

The mud of Morecambe Bay...

8u3y.jpg

John, I spent a week in Lancaster while my better half attended a university workshop. The scenery in the region was just so new and wondrous. It was my first and only trip to the UK. The uni took us all on a tour to the lake district too! We might have passed your "shack" ! This was well before I knew POTD existed. Locals were expounding on the dangers of the Morecambe mud and the death of some immigrant workers years ago.

Mine for today... the animals here are scurrying to collect as much as they can for winter stores. I found this chipmunk cleaning up after the few Oak trees we have here:

Attempting to get a job as a blog photographer. I say 'job' but actually it is unpaid so it would only really be for experience but should only be a few hours a week if I hopefully get it.

It would be for a fashion blogger who likes to show off her outfits etc.

When going through my photos to find what would be suitable to send her as examples of my work I stumbled across a small set of shots from my first day out with my 6D back in February so I have finally managed to upload to Flickr and here is a shot to share!

As always, comments appreciated.

Morecambe Bay has claimed a lot of lives, over the years. Bizarrely, the old road from Lancaster to what is now Cumbria used to be across the sands (to go around the estuary, to the first river bridge, added many hours to any journey on foot or horse). For centuries there have been 'guides to the sands', to help people across. There are quicksands and fast flowing tides: very dangerous. And, yes, 14 Chinese cockle-pickers died about 10 years ago; they were out on the sands when the tide turned. The tragedy was made worse because they were employed by gang-masters, and paid a pittance for their work...

What's a 'cockle-picker'? Never heard that term before.
PS: Fascinating stuff. Always been fascinated by quicksands and the such.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one from Pompeii. Part of me doesn't like it, but I keep coming back to it for some reason when I review pics from the trip.

I like the sky. Being Pompeii I think it would be better without the people. Kind of deserted and haunting. Think the B & W really adds to the series.

Another older one I had previously written off as it was dull and grey. Have improved it in terms of colouring etc, but still not the best composition. Also what were they thinking putting that modern building at the front of all older stuff. The town planner should be shot.

This guy was an amazing wakeboarder.... he was getting 6'-8' jumps consistently. Last year on the lake he was doing a tandem pull, and his brother jumped over him.... I wish I had a camera for when that had happened.

Very nice. We don't get much action photography on here.

Awesome shot! Wish I had the equipment and opportunity to shoot something like this!

The bottom right feels off for me. There is too much 'nothing'. If it was me I would try and darken that area or crop in from the bottom leaving the much more interesting ruins and clouds.
