Erm, no. Weekly contest is US History unless I'm looking at the wrong one. This was shot in the UK...

He opened it to any country's history. He didn't realize this is a globally visited forum and made it open to anywhere.

From a flea market in Athens. I sure know how to pick hotels: in the morning just outside the front door was a cavalcade of fruit and vegetable vendors, and a few people selling things of the most random nature. They all disappeared in the evening without a trace, except for a bit of trash left behind.

Mine for today...Playing around with the macro lens, and some freshly cut roses from our garden. Mostly teaching myself how to play with indoor lighting (this was shot at night, in the kitchen).

Feel free to comment and offer critique, as usual.

With all the beautiful images of Twillingate, I just might have to add Newfoundland to my list of places to travel to!

As as travel destination, I would recommend Newfoundland without hesitation.

Depending on where you're coming from and how you would get to Newfoundland - New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia with Cape Breton (Canada's Maritime Provinces) are not to be missed as well. But that's a lot of ground to cover. I did them in two separate trips over a total of 5 weeks and still didn't see everything.

Mithras shrine underneath Rome near the Circus Maximus.

This particular shrine isn't open to the general public. Felt lucky to be able to see it.

Here is a Wiki link to the Mithraic mysteries. Very little is know about this cult. It was a rival to Christianity in the later Roman empire. Lots written about it, but everything should be taken with a healthy grain of salt. Quite simply, we don't know much about the cult of Mithras.

Was amazing to be able to view this shrine. One of the many hidden treasures in (under?) Rome :)

Finally some new material! Went to Himley Hall this afternoon. Was just heading back to the car when it started to rain. I took shelter under a tree and found the Lady Bug Ball in fall swing.
