Photo taken in a garden on Malta late September 2007.
I don’t know the name of the flower. Is there anyone who knows?
(I wish only that the background would just be a more green and blurry)🙂

Nikon D40X, Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G
180 mm, f/4.8, iso 100, 1/80s

Looks like a Bird of Paradise.

Glad you enjoyed it. Its a great city (smallish but just the right size) to live in…

I see you grabbed the not often photographed north side of the Pulteney Bridge. 👍👍👍 Difficult to thin that the famous south side was pretty much in that state until the Victorian era.

Got the other side, too :). At the Abbey, I got to talking with the keeper and he mentioned being an officer in the British Army in Burma in WWII. He was surprised and delighted that I (an American!) knew all about Ord Wingate and the Chindits and the battles in that theater. He had some great stories and then gave my wife and I a personal tour of the Abbey. We had a wonderful day there that I'll never forget.

The color version of yesterdays. While not intended as a formal test, it illustrates something to test that took for granted decades ago - the softness of the vintage lens. It could be my vision and need to focus, but split matching focusing shouldn't be vision dependent. I am consistently seeing softness, in this case with the Canon 50mm f1.8, compared to todays lens, in this case the 35mm Sony/Zeiss f2.8. While no EFIX on film, adjusting ISO (400 vs 200) and known shutter speed on Canon, estimating aperture was f2,8 or 4, where the 35mm lens was at f8. Understandable that the background and gator foreground would be out of focus in the B&W, but the well focused print on shirt would be on the same plane as the head that was relatively soft. Time to do a controlled experiment with closely matching focal lengths. Also now making sense of why many of the slides from back in the day are soft compared to current, and not solely a 'deterioration' excuse.

I cite my deterioration as an excuse all the time.

I honestly think this photo community is one of the best things on the internet! Love the photos, stories, etc.

On topic, this is one of my attending physicians’ home. He had a Fall get together for us. It’s in Jonesborough, TN which is the oldest town in TN, and this is the oldest brick house in TN on top of that. Really neat history.

OMG i can't believe this photo. Spent many glorious days at Seaside Heights (winning cigarettes!!)
Sandy was a beast, had no power for over a week in NYC, but many had it so much worse and lost everything. oh my...
It was very surreal seeing this! the total devastation of that town, boardwalk completely wiped out. (Lavallette, NJ just a few miles north of Seaside Heights, tried to get there but it was off limits still...bridge wiped out, homes flattened)

I am just north of Philadelphia, the winds really kicked up around 5:30, 6pm...then - poof, power finally went out - and stayed out for 6 days. BUT..house still standing, no damage...could have been worse! INTENSE... I didn't have great internet the next few days, trying to watch choppy streaming news coverage in my car on my iPhone sitting in a Target parking lot and saw NYC...the fires in Queens, Brooklyn(?) Total blackout downtown. Unreal.
