Btw, I didn't use selective colouring Alex but it does appear that way. It's an effect caused by my speedlight firing straight across and parallel to the surface of the milk (which was actually 5% "light coffee cream" for added opacity and viscosity). It highlighted the drop itself more than the surface of the milk.

Another stonker! very very nice! but maybe just maybe if you had waited a few minutes longer, it looks like the sun was about to give you a sunstar there no? still beautiful though.

Yeah ... we thought there'd be a sunstar , I was positioned to catch the it , it looked clear in the predawn , but there was a low-lying cloud bank that spoiled the party , all I got was what you see. Did get some interesting other stuff , though . Started out at 5:30 and got back in around 9:30 and was moving around from location to location the whole time , spending ample time at each .
Taken with the iPhone 6, basic B&W conversion and square crop in iPhoto. Not too shabby.

To all of you guys in here, How do you get such sharp images? No matter what lens I throw at a picture I get a mediocre level of sharpness. :-(
"all you got"?! you got an amazing image sir! It is stunning. I wish i could take quality images like that. I would die happy if I could get stunning images like that. Absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful sharp image. You get better images using your phone camera albeit a good one, than I get using my built specific camera and lens! How do you get your images so pin sharp? Is there a knack or technique you use to get these so sharp? To all of you guys in here, How do you get such sharp images? What he said ^. Also a tripod and shutter release/timer can help.

I'll pretty much agree with Alexander , Apple Fanboy , and kingalexthe1st .
On this trip , all my shots that were taken either with low light or on questionable footing were done with a tripod/release . Generally I try to keep the ISO as low as possible , usually 100 or 200 . f-stops at around f8 to f11 ,shooting in Aperture priority . If I'm shooting hand held , I go for a shutter speed of at least 2X the focal length I'm shooting with , plus use whatever image stabilization my lens has . Lower light shots I'll bracket either 1 or 2 stops and pick the best of the three to play with in post. I'll also take lots of shots . If I think there's a view I can make work , I'll shoot it . 350-400 on the day I took the shot below . Doesn't cost me anything and I can always hit the delete button . Sounds confusing , but all this nonsense works for me. It's mostly a matter of taking lots of pictures to get to know what your gear will do , and shooting RAW. Here's another one .....

So the only bit I am doing wrong by the sound if it is letting me use the camera...
Guys Really really appreciate the tips. Guess I really do need to practice and stop worrying about one picture one shot. Never really considered the best of the bunch selection approach! Seems obvious when you say it!
I suppose I dont use my tripod enough either. Too much hand holding.
Thanks and again, awesome images! This forum is really turning my competency around.
Ken
Three of us went hill walking at the weekend. I used my tripod 70% of the time. My other mate 50%, and the other guy carried his around all day and didn't use it!
Also if your lend has VR you might get better results turning it off when using a tripod. And as already said mirror up remote release is the way to go.
You rock Melizard! ;-) ooph poor joke...
Seriously though really nuce images. Do you do selective adjustments in your images? The rock looks completely different to surrounds. Kind of like selective colour effect but not. Nice way to make it stand out.
More please.... encore!
Hey not to split hairs with you, but I believe that is Mount Reynolds.
Great background information. Thanks. I'm always looking for a wet weather project. Im going to set something up in the garage this year.
Is the white circle thing a desk lamp?
Excellent results! Are you using a snoot to focus the light tightly, or is the speedlite pretty close and maybe at the long/tight end of its range at 90-100mm or so? Whatever you are doing, it's working for you.
Wow Peter, just....wow.
Peter, magnificent pictures. Sorry I am late with the accolades. I got a chance to go back a few pages and look at all of the great submissions that I missed wile out of wifi use while in Glacier NP. I'm just getting caught up.
