When I seen the purple flowers in the pond, I had something in mind when I get into post editing. I was thinking colors glowing like in the avatar movie. Shot it purposely underexposed so I play with luminance, highlights, lights/darks... etc... anything to give that glow on the purples, yellows, orange, greens. Added the lightning bug to enhance the effect. Pretty much came out the way I envisioned it...

I agree - a balance is needed. However, I would not, and have not waited for one or the other. I made a choice and started one - eating. I now eat carnivore and found, it did take months, I have a more balanced emotional state. My personal life relationships are non-existent, people I thought would be there in my life, dropped away - yet I maintain, because I maintain my health. My point is, keep moving in a healthy direction. For trauma, perhaps Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Link if you are interested.

Steven, I am glad that these things are working for you, making your life better.

A huge part of the approach I have to mental health is as I wrote in my first post today.
Listen, just listen and acknowledge without the knee-jerk need to solve things.

I know that it can be hard when things have helped you and you then want others to try it to, but today is a special day. It is "Are You Okay? Day" and a big part of the ethos of this day is to listen, with no answers, suggestions, etc.

Be well, Steven.

I live with the tortures, agonies and joys (yes, joys!) of mental health challenges each and every day of my life. My life is an open book in this regards.

Today, September 10, is "RUOK?" day and "World Suicide Prevention" Day.

There's more to say than just "Are you okay" when you care about someone's wellbeing and their mental health.
It's what is said after that, without suggestion, without judgement, without prejudice or belittlement that truly matters.

Listen, just listen and acknowledge without the knee-jerk need to solve things.

Be there genuinely for someone today. Be the difference this world needs right now.

Seeing all the photos on here helps my mental well-being. As does getting out and doing photography. Doesn’t make everything right, but it gives me something else to focus on (pun intended!) for a bit.
It’s fair to say MR got me through a fairly dark time in my life. It was something that was a bit normal and easier to deal with than real world friends at times.

Well said. Advice that needs to be heeded by us all.

Nice whats your new lens?

Sony 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS.... Kind of a specialty lens because of the STF (Smooth Trans Focus) technology, as there is an anodization filter which results in a delightfully smooth bokeh. Although it isn't really a macro lens, the 100 STF also can focus fairly closely which works nicely when one wants to do do closeups. It's also used for portraiture but I'm more interested in what I can do with it when shooting flowers and other items.

Ha, don't I wish! Actually, I'm pretty much finished with buying new lenses; the next one will be something in the wide-angle range, as my widest one right now is 35mm, which while a great little lens, isn't all that wide, really.

B&H and my local camera shops both will be very sad when I've said, "OK, I'm done buying new lenses!" LOL! I try to buy locally when I can but this last lens, yes, came from B&H, who finally got it back in stock after everyone had it on back-order for a rather long time. Probably the next lens, some sort of wide-angle -- haven't really made up my mind about prime vs zoom and what focal length and Sony offers several options -- will come from the local shops since they seem to have the different choices readily available. I daresay wide-angle lenses, in whatever configuration and focal lengths, are more popular than the specialty 100mm STF one or even macro lenses.

All that said, though, I am curious to see what Sony will be unveiling this coming week with its new presumably more compact FF camera body and lenses....

Went back to the Fairy Cottage just before sunset yesterday for my first play with a new (to me) fisheye lens! I've never had one before and am looking at using it for some quick 360 captures where I want more detail than a one-click 360 camera can provide, but don't have the time to dedicate to taking a full nodal head and tripod with me.

Here is one of my first frames captured with it, the rest were experiments in 360 captures, with four frames taken at ninety degrees apart.

Most of my gear I purchased lightly used. The EM5 had 1500 on the shutter count when I bought it, the 40-150 I bought in excellent condition from someone in the MU-43 forum, and KEH, Lens Authority, and UsedPhotoPro also get my business outside of B&H. The only things I purchased “new“ were lenses that I got tired of waiting for to show up used!

Fisheyes can be fun, and they really make you think about composition. You can even do landscapes if you can manage keep the horizon toward the middle third.
