This one is superb...not only technically with a very well executed focus limit and bokeh, but also artistically where the leaf appears to be turning. The sharp and saturated red contrasted with blue gives the subject a 3-dimensional look...it seems to be popping out of the picture.
Nikkor 70-180mm Micro??? What lens is that?
Thank you, Ksz! I shot a lot of images that day but only a few passed muster when I reviewed them in Aperture....
Years ago when I was taking classes in photography, in my first B&W course, the instructor kept emphasizing contrast. CONTRAST, CONTRAST! I learned that lesson well in B&W and also realized how it also works effectively when shooting in color. An image such as mine or one which shows a brilliant bunch of bright yellow leaves set against a vivid blue sky really has impact because of the contrast.
The Nikkor 70-180 lens is now discontinued, but one can still pick it up as gently used or if one is REALLY lucky, as new. This lens is interesting because it retains the aperture throughout the zoom -- and macro -- focus. The 70-180mm range and length makes it amazingly versatile and very soon after I first got it this rapidly became one of my favorite lenses. I can go out and shoot macros with it within the 70-180 range and I can also use it as a regular 70-180mm lens, too, so if I'm intrigued by ducks or geese gently drifting by on the lake, I can quickly snap off an image or two and then continue on and find a tree full of gorgeous leaves changing color and start shooting macros of them....
