I stepped off the main street at the local market to stuff my fruit and veggies into my bag when this green can caught my eye.

Are you being detained?

No, but I could see why you would say that. just at a great coffee shop and saw the chair in the restroom, and thought "intresting":D

Coffee shop restroom? Looks like a place the Mob uses to "make you talk," as it were.

calm during storm

We've been having a two day tropical storm. I looked out my window this afternoon when it was suddenly quiet and grabbed my camera. The houses below are the small town in which I live.

^That reminds me of a picture I took not too long ago. There was an incredibly massive storm that ended just before sunset, and the color contrast of the rainbow was uncanny against the grey sky. Of course, you have a much nicer camera and my image is much more noisy.

Also, How do you put the larger pics in the main viewing window, not just a thumbnail?

That's awesome. It would make a great Desktop wallpaper.

After you have clicked the reply button below, click on the icon that looks like a yellow postcard. A small window pops open in which you paste the url of a picture you have down-sized and uploaded to an online photo storage site. (there are many free ones out there if you don't already use one)
Nice Shanghai shot.

What does the UV black filter do, and is the Tiffen Hot Mirror Filter the thing that brings out the pink-ish colours? Beautiful photo, btw. IR photos are sometimes nice, but what does a "typical" UV photo look like?

Love it. :)

Around 1 month ago, I posted a photo of Darling Harbour at night. Here's another photo taken at Darling Harbour, but this one was taken on Oct 7th of this year. It was also taken with my tiny point-and-shoot rather than my DSLR. :)

Ooh, I wish you could get a shot of the big spools of thread! They're so fun.
Well, I'll probably be heading to Seoul this weekend--I just ordered a new iMac :) so I'll be picking up some RAM and a new H.D for the external firewire box :) --and I think I know some places there where big spools fairly spill onto the pavement.... I'll see what I can do. :) (new iMac coming :) ) :)

I'm just starting to get into photography, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

RL Hearn Generating Station (decommissioned), Toronto, Canada.
October 2006

NIKON D70s
Nikkor 12-24mm f4 DX @ 12mm
1/1000 sec @ f8 @ ISO 200

some trivia:

The plant has a single smokestack that stands 215 meters tall. Apparently, this stack was once the tallest in the world when constructed in the 1950's.

Some of you will know that this facility has been the subject of recent controversy in Toronto as there are plans to open it back up (it was shut-down in the 80's because of pollution concerns), or leave it mothballed and build a new generating station alongside it.
