SRSound: Do you have an online gallery of all your work?

Thanks for your interest. No: a) nothing public, although I recently started to post at worldphotographyforum.com and so am slowly accumulating a gallery there. Same photos as here, basically; b) I don't think of my pictures as "my work", more like my hobby.

barr08: Freebooter, I hate bugs, but I love everything you submit. Keep up the great work!

Thanks a lot!

I couldn't find you over there. Do you have a link?

EDIT: I found you under drmaturin over there.

I find that most hobbyists tend to use flickr for hosting their photography portfolios although I'm not too sure of its piratical nature. If that is indeed what you are concerned about.

Freebooter, love your pics. Nice to see that you've inspired others here, as well :). I have been wanting to ask how you get the black background in many of your pics? Perhaps its a "Duh" thing, but I had to ask.

Mushies, they have infested my backgarden at the moment for some reason.

I never get tired of seeing what you pull out the bag every day, fantastic once again.

Fantastic again, I really like the detail in this one.

Love the sunset. I've been really impressed by your previous pictures as well .

Lemnos Lights

One of around 100 taken with about 4 seconds of exposure using a Canon at 9pm in May on the Greek island of Lemnos.

P.S., Steamie, thank you, I appreciate it!

Freebooter, others have said it before, as have I, but I continue to be blown away by your work. You really should have a photoblog, proper website, even a Flickr account to show off your work (other than to us Mac geeks here)

I really like the composition of this photo. Since your lens is a VR equipped and you shot at 1/200th sec. do you feel you gained an additional benefit from the tripod? Or, did you turn off the VR feature (if it's possible...?) I know, stupid question, but I thought I'd throw it out there, since I have the older 55-200 (non-VR.)

Thanks for the compliment! Not a stupid question definitely. The VR was turned off in this case (they recommend you turn it off on a tripod; there is a switch to flick, just like going to manual focus). At this distance handheld the VR would help some, and at 1/200 I could most likely get a sharp picture.

Where the tripod helped was the composition. The ballhead on the tripod makes a huge difference there -- handheld I would have likely centered the flower and cropped, on the tripod I had it lined up properly in the viewfinder.

Jumping to an older photo --

I confess to spending some time in post/p on this one, actually taken in natural light around 7 pm. It's an aloe vera flower cluster against an oak trunk backdrop underexposed.;)
