Are the blurry areas a result of expert DOF control or is there post processing at work? I only ask because I am constantly in awe of your work and am trying to reach your level (one day)!

Thanks!
The out of focus areas are "natural." I'm just learning this macro thing myself so I have lots of duds.
Here are some tips: a) take lots of pictures of the same thing, slightly varying the focus/distance, angle; b) figure out what aperture can give you sufficient DOF--I am finding that with my lens at 1:1 (life-size) f/16 doesn't cut it for larger subjects so I tend to shoot at f/20 or f/22, even though the lens testers say f/stops these aren't as sharp as say f/11; c) use a flash if you can unless you have ways to prevent the flower/leaf from shaking in the slightest breeze; d) the background is important., so find a colorful one or make it dark (using shadow or by flashing the subject).

I absolutely love the colors you get in your photos? May I ask how you get such great blues for the sky? What kind of camera accessories/post processing do you do?

P.S. Keep up with the amazing photos!

Thanks so much! As for the colours of the skies, I often don't do too much. Usually some minor levels and curves, occasionally a slight bump in saturation, but more often than not it's as the camera sees it.

In terms of equipment used, just my D40x with the 18-55mm kit lens with a Hoya UV filter (which as far as I know does nothing more than protect the lens).

Anyway, here's my shot for the day:

Peregrine Falcon

There was a peregrine falcon circling while hiking in Acadia National Park and I was able to take a few shots. I think the bird is absolutely awesome. When its wings are fully outstretched its quite amazing.

I just couldn't bring myself to not jump on the bandwagon and post a bug picture like everyone else. Oh well, here you go:

I was in Newport, RI touring some of the mansions and took this in front of Marble House. The entire house is made of Marble and it cost 11 million in 1982 (~4.6 billion today). Basically this was just a little decoration to a large fountain at the entrance to the "cottage".
