Nice, and a boat load of Chihuly back to you.

Haha, I never got a shot of the boat full here ( I didn't like much of his stuff honestly) .

But I did get one that I submitted to the "Fairchild Challenge" photo contest held by the botanical gardens hosting Chihuly. One of my friends and I went together, and we both took our submissions with one of my lenses (and got within a point of each other, just shy of honorable mentions).

January 29th, 2006
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens (Chihuly At Fairchild exhibit)

80071340-O.jpg

Camera: Nikon D200
ISO: 100
Shutter Speed: 1/40 second
Aperture: f/9.5
Lens: Nikon 85mm f/2.8D PC Micro Nikkor (which due to financial circumstances and medical reasons I won't get into, I was forced to sell this past week)
Some tilt and/or shift applied i'm sure.

This has been edited to look how I want on a 2.2 gamma monitor (all except apple unless you set it otherwise) but should look good on a 1.8 gamma apple standard monitor.

This shot...is amazing.
What camera?

Thanks! Canon 20d w/kit lens. I also have the Canon 50 f/1.8, which I highly recommend ($75!). I'm trying to save for a few more right now.

I really want the EF-S 10-22 for some ultra-wide landscapes, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for walk around, Canon 70-200 f/4L for tele (maybe a sigma f/2.8), and Canon 100 Macro for...macros.

Such an expensive hobby...

All your shots thus far have been incredible. How do you like having a DSLR? What lenses do you have?

I love it! Much more fun than I thought it would be, much easier, too. About the only thing I underestimated was the lenses price. :\

Right now I've got three slow lenses- 18-55, 28-90, 75-300, all at 4-5.6 I believe. This was taken with the 28-90.

That is stunning.

Thanks you two!

It was actually terribly exposed (for the sky entirely), so I hope it doesn't look too overprocessed. Mostly the Shadow/Highlight tool to revive some of the shadow detail. It got a little grainy...

Oh, and I have only shot RAW since this experience!

That would have looked AWESOME in HDR... Do you have a RAW file of this?

Here is a picture from the back of my boat in Lake Havasu a few weeks ago.

Woah, cool shot. I love cloudless sunsets, as they provide such a clean and beautiful gradient in the sky.

I meant to say AFTER that experience, I started shooting RAW. Hindsite, my friend. Hindsite... I have done a few HDRs since then w/multiple shots.

I think I took 5-6 shots of the sunset from different distances, and different shutter times, all pretty much give off the same effect. I thought they looked cool...

I should have noticed the RAW comment before I posted. :)

Excellent shot. Simply gorgeous.

I think the grain in the shadow detail sets it off. I'd love to see a full sized version.

Thanks, Mike. I guess I'm my own worst critic. Want me to email you a larger version?

This was taken with my Nikon Coolpix 8800.
Ironically, this is a shot of the spot where I wrecked my car, almost exactly 7 months later. The Nikon died in the crash. :p
