how would you go about bunny-hopping a pothole in the road :O
personally i think they look like death traps waiting to happen lol

I don't think people generally ride recumbents in areas where there are potholes.

And if there is a pothole, you shouldn't be bunny-hopping it anyways.

and for reference those are Vittoria Zaffiro Pros. Great mid-range folding tires. Nice and light. But honestly I only got the yellow ones because they didn't have black! I think black would look much cleaner and sexier. :) I'll be changing my rear to a beefy Specialized Armadillo or Conti Gatorskin soon.

I think the black will look a bit boring in comparison. The yellow adds a nice dimension to the bike but be sure to post some pictures when you get the new rubber.

Sometimes there isn't anything you can do and have to bunny hop it. I'd rather bunny hop a pothole, especially some of the ones around here, than crash through it.

lol. long-distance skids are still fun. but they're actually kind of difficult to do at high speed on the t1. it's EXTREMELY twitchy and throwing your nuts to the stem feels very very very unstable. to be honest this bike scares me a bit.

I love my fixed gear bike, and end up riding it everywhere but the toughest club rides.

I have front and back brakes installed on mine for a few reasons:

1. I want as similar bars as possible to my road bike. I have a lot more than a couple of ounces to lose on myself, so adding it to the bike is a non-issue.

2. You can feel the stress on your knees skid stopping or applying strong reverse pressure. I also really do not like putting myself over the front of the bars.

3. People are debating making brakes a requirement here anyway after some REALLY dumb accidents.

4. I would rather unconsciously go for the brakes and have them there than do the same and realize I am gripping air and there are no brakes.

Giant Defy 3

Great bike, only have about 50 miles on it but its like 1 month old. I was sick of classic bikes so i decided to get a nice new one.

I highly recommended it.

You should get some carbon cranks. :)

Here's my baby with a different wheelset and new pedals/straps. New crankset (Sugino 75s) and bars (Nitto RB-021s) to come!

I've always liked your bike since you finished it!

I will have to start thinking about selling my rig and buying a t1...

Such a beautiful looking bike, how much did the whole set up cost? If you dont mind me asking.

The complete T1 itself that you can buy from a bikeshop is a tad overpriced. I only purchased the frameset for about $300 USD. That was more worth it.

What's your current setup?

@cleanup, how do you break on that thing?? please send me a message with your answer...thanks

It's a fixed gear, so you can resist the forward momentum of the pedals, and lock them up in order to lift up the rear wheel or skid it. In reality this bike is meant for the velodrome, where you're not supposed to slow down at all. Logic says I should put a front brake on, which I probably will once I get my new bars on.

Thanks! In retrospect, too much! But it's my own creation and I love it. After my new crankset, in terms of value and worth the bike is probably worth nearly $2000, but I put about $1300-1400 into it. Please don't steal it. :)

That all that really matters anyway.

Overall that is not too bad for a bike of that beauty. If I had that I would want two, one to ride and one to have in a pristine condition in the lounge just to look at.

What do you own? A Vigorelli? Or a Cinelli Pista? Personally I lust for a Cinelli Mash frameset. The original plan was to make my T1 entirely Cinelli in terms of its cockpit (seatpost, saddle, stem & bars)... But I found the Cinelli seatpost I got way too heavy for its own good, so I used a Thomson I had lying around instead. I kept the stem (Cinelli Vai) and the bars (aluminium Cinelli Pistas), but soon the bars will be swapped out for RB-021s. Although I would love an all-Cinelli build, functionality still reigns for my daily ride!

Though one day I'll own a Mash frameset *swoons*. I've only seen one in Toronto.

Any tips or suggestions on how to start building a bike?

Depends on the type of bike you want to build. Check out a local bicycle cooperative. You live in California; so I imagine there are TONS. There's plenty of resources out there much better than MacRumors, where real people will teach you how to do real things. Good luck!

Tons is right. Fixies here have become viral, like plaid shirts.
