I think BMW must be sending you different cars to the ones they sell in Europe if you're complaining about a cheap interior.

I said cheap looking. And honestly I think this is a very cheap looking interior.

I disagree about your take on the new 3 series interior, but there's nothing cheap looking about my M3 interior (and the picture doesn't really do it justice). I often think other cars have cheap looking interiors when climb into them, especially American autos.

I prefer the M3 interior to the new 3 series interior. I don't think they look cheap, I just think there are better interiors on the market (Lexus, Audi, and Jaguar)

Apart from those horrid, horrid seats. If I had this kind of money to spend on a car I would certainly not buy something that looked like that. The dashboard is nice and the 3 series is the same, very modern looking but you've spoiled a brilliant car in my opinon by going down that route.

Also, is that an automatic gearbox, on a BMW M3? What the hell?

I get nothing but compliments on the interior, so -- in my experience -- you are in the vast minority in your opinion. But that's OK, you don't have to like it. I love it, and the seats do support me extremely well, both for "spirited" driving and for long road trips.

The transmission is SMG II (for sequential manual gearbox). It's a 6 speed manual (i.e. direct coupled) transmission mated to a electro-hydraulic sequential shifter, giving it very high performance gear changes. There is no traditional clutch pedal. It's awesome on the track. I was recently at the BMW 2 Day M School where I spent two days driving a M5 and M6 with the 7-speed SMG III tranny's. Awesome performance to say the least. The SMG is more popular on M cars in Europe than the US, where about half or more US M3 owners opt for the traditional 6-speed manual.

The SMG will give way to double-clutch gearboxes very soon (the new M3 will have one in a year or so).

Subaru STi. Not one of the sexiest cars on the road, but I do put it good use.
Maybe not the sexiest car, but certainly a great performer. Last time I tracked my M3, I could not for the life of me hold off one of the instructors in a STI. He was very fast.

I love watching the WRX in rallying (WRC, etc). I'm very disappointed that Speed Channel stopped showing WRC.

next summer i'm going to try and pick up an 02-03 ls430. the nicest big body sedan i have had the pleasure of driving, including my 740il and an s500. the interior, ride and ergonomics just do something for me.

Funny you mention Lexus; i just finished an English paper on Lexus and the original LS400. Whenever I get rid of my Camry, my next car will either be a Lexus GS400 or Cadillac Seville STS. Heck, maybe even a new Camry. It's so hard to decide, I love 'em all :D

I think the color of your seats help dress the interior up. If it was a plain black interior, it would not have the same effect on me. The red leather is also sexy.

My neighbor has one of those. I think they are very very nice cars. You should get one, just don't put chrome rims on it, it is fine the way it is.

It's Cinnamon, it really is more orange/brown (like in my picture) and not red at all. There was a red leather option for this car.

In retrospect I sometimes wish I had spent less on the interior option (leather and power) to instead get the Competition Package option (different wheels, brakes, steering). But I'll eventually upgrade the brakes myself.

Definitely - I've had a ton of fun in this car. Great power, and the adjustable center diff makes it pretty versatile since you can dial from 50/50 lock to more of a rear wheel drive bias with throttle oversteer if you need it.

I've been racing for about 7 years now and that's nearly all been in the dirt. I've made it my early new years resolution to get myself to at least one track day next year.

And yeah, boo on Speed for dropping WRC. Rally seems pretty big everywhere in the world other than the US. Fortunately there are enough torrents out there to keep the footage available.

it is nice the way it is. havent put rims on a toyota yet, and dont intend on starting.

mine would be that car. lexus makes a chrome wheel that looks nice on the ls, but i would try and find the car in the picture.

Have you ever driven an LS400? If so, is the 430 waaay better? I've driven a 400 many times and I must say it's like butter! So smooth, powerful, comfortable! Ah!!!:p
