Excuse me for being ignorant but aren't those all coupes?
Depends on how you define them. I think Quagmire is saying that because some have a back seat (135i and RX8) and others are just 2-seaters (Z and Solstice), that they are different vehicles, not worthy of comparison. But, if you read the article, you'd see C&D mentions this EXACT thing at the very start of the article.

I personally just consider them to all be 2-door sports cars. The back seat in cars like this, if they have one, is mostly next-to-unusable. And, there is really a lot similar with all of them when you get past the seating arrangement. Low weight, good amounts of power, rear drive, sporty looks. Seem similar to me.

I should stop now though. Who knows what might happen if we DISCUSS our thoughts on these cars. You better just PM me if you want to continue Educ8r. ;)

Yep, compare roadsters to coupes. Great job C&D.

Will you guys give it a freaking rest! So what if you like Nissan or BMW. If one person states his valid reasons why he didn't buy the Z over the 135i or vice versa, don't rip him/her apart! Yes, you can have an opinion, but to criticize another persons preference( like with me hating FWD with a near passion) is plain stupid and will make you look like a troll for wanting to see a response back.

I don't mind people speaking their opinions on the 135i. :) I already stated that the Z is a more focused sports car and you definitely can't beat it for it's price. It's a great car. People just need to realize that the 135i and Z are pretty much on par as far as performance is concerned (stock). Magazines give the Z the nod because it's a better bargain. The only thing that magazines forget to mention (or even realize) is that the 135i comes with run flat tires and they perform much worse than their standard counterparts. If they fitted the 1er with non RFs, the car would pull a faster 0-60, stop faster, and do even better on the track and skid pad.

Performance aside, I chose the 1er over the Z also because of the luxury features and just the little design details that are overlooked by most car companies:

- Google Search: You can search google and push addresses to the GPS and phone numbers to your cell phone via BT. You can also jump on google maps on your home computer and send waypoints and destinations to your car.

- The new 09 iDrive/Navi blows nissan's navi away. Gorgeous anti-aliased maps and a really slick looking interface. You can watch DVDs on the nav when the parking brake is on as well.

- Lights under the door handles that illuminate the ground as you get in

- The passenger side mirror automatically angling down when you are in reverse so you can see the curb when you parallel park

- When you let off the brake on a hill, the car keeps the brakes on for 2 seconds so you don't roll back

- More elegant keyless entry than the 370z. The Z still has a button you have to push on the door. Just grab the door handle and it unlocks before you pull it.

- Headlights turn in the direction you are steering.

- Rain sensing wipers

- doors lock automatically when you start driving over 5mph. car senses when you leave your key in the car or trunk and won't let you lock them in.

I can go on. I've been driving japanese cars my whole life until recently. There are just so many small design details that I just love in german cars. It's like when I bought my first mac. They really think about every little detail in the car. I guess what I'm trying to say is if people question why anyone would pay more for a BMW over a nissan that performs just as well and is considerably cheaper, the mac vs pc analogy makes sense in some ways. But if you don't care about the little extras, then this is all just a moot point.

I do think japanese cars are much more reliable and better built in the sense that things that shouldn't break over time don't. I read about so many random complaints about BMW problems. Most of it having to do with electronic issues. But I'm giving them a chance. Their 3l I6 twin turbo motor really won me over. Hell, I have 2 cars with this engine right now. :p I have no brand loyalty when it comes to cars. I just buy what fits my wants, needs and tastes at that given moment.

Awesome Fozzie!!! Is that a bosal exhaust? Looks exactly like my SPT.

Are you turbobacked or just catback? Stage 2? Nice ride :)

I'm not aware of any published tests, but many owners have said switching to non RFs have improved grip on the 1. I was also told by one of the reps at Dinan that getting rid of the RFs will be one of the biggest improvements to the 1's handling.

Just don't bother with him. He is on a parade trying to prove the 370Z is the best damn car out there and beats the 135i. He hasn't realized not everyone has the same taste as him. You prefer the 135i, I think we all get that except him.

See, right here. THIS is what I'm talking about. I never intended anyone to get mad, or intentionally piss anyone off about things. And, from the looks of it, it doesn't appear that Radiant has, and I thank you for that. I just like talking cars. Some good discussion, on a message board no less, is fun.

I think, and this is just me, but I think he was just looking for some actual #'s showing the improvement that ditching the Run-Flats would give. I don't think anyone doubts that the car would certainly handle better with tires designed for that reason. But, just how much improvement is the question. Run-Flats aren't ideal for performance, no. But, they have improved greatly in the few years they've been around. It would be interesting to see just exactly what kind of improvement that small change would gain.

And, just to put a final word in clearing things up, I really do like the 135i as a car. A car like that, with that engine, is just great. I just don't like the way BMW is pricing it, or a few of its cars, these days. That is all. Good car, just not priced how I would like to see it.

But, I do love a nice 2-door Bimmer. My 2 previous BMWs that I mentioned earlier were an E30 M3 and an E36 328i coupe. I loved both of them. And, I do still like BMW as a brand. I just disagree with how they've positioned themselves in a few product classes.

God's chariot!
It's the car that got me into racing. It broke a lot, but it was a MONSTER on the Auto-X. I've been dancing cones ever since. Well, not so much these days. But, for a good 10 years after I got that car, trimming 100th's of a second was about all I thought about. Good times. And yes, a VERY good car.

Well here's some BMW news for you. My wife's 5 month old 2008 335i was towed to the dealer this evening because of electrical failure. All of the electronics are going crazy like the car's possessed. I hope this isn't a trend in the years to come.
