You don't get it. A cheap car doesn't have to be cheap:

A BMW 135 starts at $35k while an evo mr starts at $37k.

The money that went into the Evo went somewhere else then luxury. Like how the money went into making the Corvette one of the best bang for your buck performance car. The interior might not be the best, but it will go and leave your nicely appointed BMW in the dust. :D

A car might cost the same, but it all depends on where the manufacture put the development money into the car.

I could argue the same about the 135. The twin-turbo N54 with only the JB3 piggyback makes some serious reliable power. Plus it handles, stops well, and comes with an incredible warranty. A 135 is a great deal for what you get, not corvette great, but then again... who wants a performance car that shares its parts bin with a malibu.

You would not buy a Corvette because it has the same steering wheel as the Malibu?

:sigh:

My mind = blown

Yes, but one of those cars starts life as an economy car, and gets about $15-20k worth of performance upgrades. The other starts life as a $35k car. I have nothing wrong with the performance of an Evo. But, all the performance parts in the world still can't change the fact that at its core, it is a cheap, boring econo-box.

Pretty much every car in their line up that isn't the 128 is higher than a 135 .

Pretty much every car in their line up that isn't the 128 is higher than a 135 .

The 128i and 328i are both priced lower than the 135i standard...

128i - $29,400
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/vehicles/2009/1/128icoupe/default.aspx

328i - $33,600
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/vehicles/2009/3/328isedan/default.aspx

135i - $35,850
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/vehicles/2009/1/135icoupe/default.aspx

The main point I was trying to make though, wasn't where in the BMW lineup the 135i falls. I was simply saying that the 1-series, even the base 128i, is a very nice car, with many nice standard features (though I personally wouldn't buy one). Compare this to the base Lancer, which the Evo is based off of, which comes with next to nothing (no AC, no ABS, etc). Again, I'm not against the Evo as a very good performance machine. But, at its core, it is still a Lancer, and the Lancer is built for one purpose. To be a cheap, economical car.

Just bought a 2007 VW Rabbit proudly built in Wolfsburg Germany ;)
Absolutely love the car, handles incredibly, has decent power (no GTI but still), and decent mpg.

The thread was doing very well for quite some time, until a certain user came in here and called a large number of other users "f*gs" because they are VW/Audi owners. This user, coincidentally, drives an Evo. Make of that what you will.

And Mitsubishi fails at making a cheap, economical car. Look at the VW Rabbit/Golf. It's slightly (although not by much, maybe $1-2000?) more than a Lancer, but it's a much better car. The interior isn't cheap, rattly plastic, and it comes with everything standard. Why is it that so few manufacturers actually know how to make a cheap economy car?

Got into a fender bender with my '99 Jetta (you can see it in the background of the picture) and the air bags deployed, totaling the car :(

So with the money saved up for the past few years I bought a 2006 A4 - awesome car that makes me feel like I'm driving a new, faster, fancier version of my Jetta :D

It's only been a few days so far but I love it! Any suggestions for an iPod/iPhone hookup? I miss the aux in I had in the aftermarket stereo I had in the Jetta. Tape decks are cheaper but sound quality is an issue - I feel like it's hit or miss with a FM transmitter...

Again with the name calling. So, do we "Stop ruining a good thread" after you're done calling people names, I take it?

It doesn't get to me. I don't own a BMW or an Evo. I've simply been speaking my thoughts on the 2 cars. The 135i seems to have this effect on this thread. I got labeled as a troll earlier in this thread for questioning the value and pricing of the 135i.

This thread (and forum, in general) has hardly ever been anything BUT ridiculous. I just like talking about cars and computers. But at times, such as now, people interpret that as me "trolling", when I'm not, or that I'm "letting things get to me", when they don't. C'est la vie

I can tell you that the Audi built in one isn't very awesome. I like it because it has great sound quality, but it doesn't display track names and is limited to about 100 songs per playlist. But(!) you can add more than 100, you just have to go to the 99th track and press next and it'll keep going on the playlist.

I also used the tapedeck and I found it kinda irritating as I would constantly move away from it with the steering wheel controls.

Are you done now? You're getting bent out of shape because someone doesn't agree with what you've said about a car on an internet forum that's focused on the Apple community.

Ridiculous? Check.

Nice upgrade! My uncle lives in Minnesota and drives one of those...it drives through the snow like a race car on hot tarmac.

Apparently not, since you don't seem to understand me, and I need to continually clarify so as not to get called names again.

I'm not bent out of shape about anything. Again, I don't care if people own an Evo, or if they own a 135i. I have opinions about both cars though, and on a forum, where cars are being discussed, I will discuss them. I couldn't care less if people agree with me. Have your own opinion, that's what they are for.

But note that at no point in any of this did I call anyone names, nor did I mock their choice of car. Someone earlier asked what happened to the thread. I simply stated my opinion as to how I saw things. Agree with it or not, I don't care. But please, don't tell me I'm "getting bent out of shape" when you clearly don't know me, or how I'm feeling.
Ridiculous? Check.
The irony of that statement coming from you almost defines "ridiculous".
