Don't we all? :D

Wish I could afford one though. I'm living on a 4 speed auto right now, it's good because of my lazyness, but it sucks. :(

I have 6 gears now and if i went to a car with 5 id feel like it was wasting fuel by not having a 6th gear  I am a bit auto curious lol I would quite like to own one and i drove one briefly lol

I love the sound of an auto pulling away :D if ya know what i mean where the engine revs stay at the one point while the speed picks up for a few seconds  its even better on V8s :D

We are thinking of trading our almost 3 year old Citroen C4 for this:

'11 Fusion SEL Auto 2.5L. We wanted the V6 but couldn't possibly afford it now. Any of you guys have experience with it? If so, what can you say about it?

Not my picture BTW.

No personal experience but I've heard a lot of good things about them. my neighbor had two. I did recently check one out at a dealer when my parents were looking for a new car, I was really impressed; slick car.

That's very nice, thanks! I was really impressed with the second generation. There are some things I will miss on the C4 when I let it go of course, such as the fixed steering wheel innards, but I'll just have to get used to not having that :p

Graeme: That's the European spec Fusion. I am very thankful we don't have that one here hehe

Just realized that I never posted my newest car in here. Might as well share a few pics. I got it back in May, I have had the windows tinted since I have taken these pics though, I will try to take new ones soon.

335i guy lol he complaining about break in period and be bought an auto lmao!! :D:D:eek:

real cars have these - its really easy dude its like counting 1-2-3-4-5-6 how cant u guys handle that man

vauxhall_vectra_estate_vxr_2007_007_250.jpg

My track car is a manual transmission. The Houston traffic is not feasible for a manual transmission. Moreover, the resale values of automatics are better down the road. I traded in my Audi -a manual- for this one.

Quite frankly, I do not miss my Audi. The ZF transmission on the 335i does a wonderful job of rowing the gears.

Not sure what you mean by this. You don't have to have a manual transmission to enjoy a car.

Are you making fun of him?

Thanks!

Since when did owning a auto transmission mean that you cant use a regular manual gearbox.

Ignorance is bliss, right?

Exactly. I fail to understand why some people assume that simply because a vehicle has automatic transmission means the driver is an idiot. Oh well.

The other thing to keep in mind is that in terms of drag cars, the fastest of the fastest of the fastest are almost exclusively automatics--often two speed powerglides, etc. manuals may be good for the autocross, but autos are king on the dragstrip (awaits "tuner" comments about "real cars" driving around corners...).

There's a lot more to choosing a tranny than just going "HUR HUR STICKS HUR HUR". Gear ratios within the tranny as well as rear axle gear and/or final drive ratios make a big difference.

For example a 700R4 has a steep 3.06 first gear, compared to a WC T-5 with a 2.95. People that know what they are doing choose the better transmission based on more factors. My Camaro is an auto, because the factory at that time only offered a five speed that was rated at 300 lb-ft of torque, pathetic considering the bone stock 350 in those years was putting out 345 lb-ft. Thus, the auto was the only tranny offered from the factory with the 350 because it was far stronger. So stronger transmission + better gear ratios = obvious choice. Now if it were a 5.0 Mustang with the crappy Ford AOD with the pathetic 2.46 first gear ratio, then yes, the 5 speed would be the better transmission and the better choice.

Both kinds of trannies have their place, so it's stupid and pointless to argue. If you're on the dragstrip, the fastest (I'm talking 11 second and faster, down into the 8 second zone) cars will almost all be autos exclusively because they shift much, much faster than you can (think about a BUILT automatic which the average person can't even imagine without having experienced one) and are much more consistent, whereas most cars on an SCCA track will be manuals. As for daily drivers, it just depends on what kind of car it is and what you prefer. Personally I could never see owning something like a crappy 122 hp FWD Nissan Cube as a daily beater and insisting it be a manual...what would be the point (again, my opinion)? Seems like more hassle than to just have an auto to get from point A to point B. Personally I would only want a manual in my weekend/summer toys, and only if it was actually a good manual or better than the automatic offering in the vehicle. Basically for me, if it's a daily driver, I'll stick with autos. If it's a weekend toy, I'll get whichever tranny is the better of the two looking comprehensively at the gearing and the whole package.

I've found over the last fifteen years that the only people who ever seem to argue one way or another are those who are truly clueless to anything beyond the shift lever itself.

Everyone knows that an automatic transmission is a sterile, boring technology designed for florists and dentists who want to turn their car into an uninspiring transportation appliance. I heard that one time a guy tried to take his automatic car to a racetrack and he crashed because he fell asleep from boredom on the main straight and drove right into the armco. An automatic transmission also weighs seven-hundred and thirty pounds and saps away 50 horsepower and 10mpg from the car.

Similarly, the manual transmission is clearly an archaic and dangerous anachronism like bias ply tires and hand-crank engine starting. Statistics show that 85% of all manual transmission cars will eventually be wrecked because the driver unwisely tried to shift gears while negotiating a freeway on-ramp, unsettling the car and sending it into a ditch. The only people who would ever want a manual transmission are just septuagenarian luddites who are afraid of modern technology. If you can't drive with both hands on the wheel the whole time you're just tempting fate and will probably crash just trying to back out of your driveway.

Luddite here!

Never had a tranny in any of my cars but they've all had gearboxes in 'em.
Ba-dum-bum!
:D

And just for the record, my cars are all manual.

Graeme - what is that? A Vectra?

In London I always insisted on driving a manual transmission - never drove an automatic until I came out to work in Qatar where unfortunately, unless I was buying something small from Stuttgart, cars are all exclusively automatic transmissions which is what I have now in my E92 330i.

The one point that I would say a manual transmission has over automatic/semi-automatic gearboxes is in the knowledge of control over the engine/drivetrain. The horror stories that were emerging earlier this year of cars from Toyota and Lexus with stuck throttles etc. reminded me of just how comforting it is to have a clutch pedal in the car that allows the driver to physically disconnect the engine from the drivetrain of the car.

We do. It's absolutely hidious. I see that car almost daily.

Well, I guess elderly people like them. Those are the kind of people driving this Fusion. They don't care about fancy or nice looking cars. They just want a practical car.

Otherwise I can't think of a reason why Americans would drive the Nissan Cube (first introduced in 1998, USA). Because of the damn succes the car is also available here! Why? Seriously, Why?

Taste is subjective, but that paint job is just hideous! You might as well throw on some fake side vents, altezza tail lights, chrome 22's, and some food product stickers.

You mean the white parts? I think they are horrible! But it's not paint, they are just the paint protection for transport :) The car is really all black.

Well then, I'll admit to being a moron :)

On the same subject, I do like the factory current gen Nissan Maxima painted white with a black roof (which might be part of a large sunroof).

Just picked up 2 old BMW's at auction. The first one is a 1982 628csi convertible with 8,662 miles and the second is a 1981 733i wagon with 9,002 miles. The wagon was made for the Frankfurt auto show and it is one of 2 in the world.
Just saw these on Jalopnik. Very cool.

I agree on the blind spots.. but a small square convex mirror tucked in the inside corner of each door side mirror makes me somewhat confident. It's the rear view mirror that really gets in the way for a tall guy like me!
