cshearer your neighborhood reminds me of the one from Leave it to Beaver. Those are big houses XD

You should see the neighborhood I live now. It's ridiculous!

Leave it to Beaver, what a blast from the past haha. I haven't seen that show in forever. Honestly, these houses are ditch weed compared to some in the neighboring Hershey area (yes, THE Hershey area). The one, of which I don't have a picture of on my iPhone, sits on the end of a caldesac and takes up a whole hemisphere of it. It's all you see looking down the street. There's a lot of money in chocolate I suppose. :D

Once I'm off to grad school though, me mum is selling this and getting a smaller place. Makes sense, too much space. I'm personally not a huge fan of large houses. Maybe for seeing, but not so much for living.

Nice MINI. I just traded in my JCW. Had it 3 years 3 months. It was a fun car, and awesome at the track.

I've always felt that the STI was a little too boy-racer style for my tastes. I also don't like the WRX interiors. I looked at getting one a few years ago, and the interior was terrible. Hopefully, they have improved since then.
Compared to my MINI (which was the same sticker price, more or less) the interior of my STi is fine. I love the alcantara seats. I prefer it over cloth, which I prefer over leather. So far, fit and finish is OK. I have to be careful making comparisons because I had a BMW M3, and while it had a lot of great details in fit and finish, it was $20K+ more expensive.

Not sure what you define as something being a boy racer car. The STi is the homologation for actual race cars. That's my third car like that (after the M3 and MINI JCW). I think of a boy racer car one of those Hondas with beer can exhaust and big-ass bolt on wing that doesn't look right nor proportionate. Anyway, each to their own. I am thoroughly enjoying mine so far.

IMO the interiors still suck. Not only Subaru's, but the EVO's interior is lame too. Just looks... cheap.

Sucks compared to what? I've only seen great interiors in more expensive cars. But one doesn't buy a STi for the interior (other than having proper seats to support you while cornering).

No, the cars themselves are great. The seats are great. What sucks in them IMO is the dash design. If I could afford it, I would get an STi any day.

For example though, the dash design on this is much better than that of the STi and the EVO. Of course, I'm not really sure that a Focus RS will do a track as good as a Subaru, despite the similar power.

A bit unrelated though, if I may ask, what led you into trading your M3 for a JCW Mini? I love the Mini but the M3 is just, pretty much the perfect car.

That picture is of the older GD platform. I agree the dash of the GR (2008-2012) is nothing great, but it isn't that bad either. The stereo sucks, but so it did on my MINI, and I don't listen to music in the car anyway.

My main complaint on the STi is that the steering doesn't have enough feel to it. Seems a bit loose and slushy for my taste. I'm just used to that great BMW connection to the road. STi doesn't have that. But a comparable BMW (135i) would cost me another $10K.

That being said, I have an E46 M3 and my power lock button is broken, and there are cracked in my carbon fibre interior bits.

Yes, but you are talking about reliability.

STi, etc. interior pieces and parts can crack, wear, and break with age too. But the fit, finish, and material quality in a BMW is better to begin with. It's part of what you pay for. You can tell that just with floor mats and carpeting. BMWs are thick and dense. In the last 13 years I've had four BMWs, one MINI, and now two Subaru STi. I can see the difference in quality of design, execution, and material. A BMW is superior, but it's also a lot more expensive.

Gotta rub in the fact that you can get a Focus RS, don't you? :D I'm still pissed that the US market didn't get one.

I know, I was just fooling around. I'm saying that no matter the quality of the car you need to find an interior that suits you. I didnt make it at all clear what I was trying to say, my bad. In fact, my dad had a Phantom and the logo on the steering wheel fell off, so it can happen to any car.

To be honest, my power button broke because I spilled a BoosterJuice on it, and my interior bits cracked because sometimes I jump in through the window and kick stuff by accident on my way in. I just wanted to be a part of the discussion .

Hah, you cheated.

I had my M3 for 3 1/2 years, from brand new. The only interior issue after 42 months was the leather wearing on the drivers side outside bolster where I slide getting into the car. Just surface wear, it didn't crack or tear. It never developed creaks or rattles. And this is a car that saw about 800 miles of tracking.

My wife and I regret getting rid of that car to this day.

But that is because for a time, boy racers would borrow styling cues from Rally, so to the untrained eye, of course an Impreza would look like a boy racer car.

As a kid, after playing Gran Turismo on the PS1 I wanted a blue, 3 door Impreza WRX, a Dodge Viper and a Skyline GT-R...

Didn't you hear, Colin McRae and Petter Solberg were boy racers. ;)

As an Evo owner, I can't argue.

I didn't buy the car for the interior though.
;)

Yeah, but that's where you spend all your time. I want it to be enjoyable. When I looked at a first gen WRX (I think it was an 03 model or so), the interior seemed flat-out cheap. Rattles, squeaks, and flimsy parts. I don't expect Lexus or Mercedes quality in this type of car, but that was a bit much. I've never been in an EVO, so I don't know what it's like.

It's just too over the top for my tastes. The huge wing and bulging flares are a bit much. I want a more subtle ride. Plus, I would rather buy a WRX, which according to most tests I've seen is almost as quick as the STI now. Actually, I would get the Mazdspeed 3, since I'm a Mazda fanboy. :) (On another note, I really wish they would release another Mazdaspeed 6)

I dunno, maybe I'm just getting old or something.

Our original plan was to get a non-STi WRX, but year-end deals closed the gap in price by quite a bit, so the STi suddenly became a more attractive deal.

Hah ha, my wife and I are in our 50s. We're just fine with flares, spoilers and other motorsport details. But then we do road trips to Sebring and Petit Le Mans every year too.
