That's something to be proud of?

Does that happen on the regular too? You know maybe with a fire hydrant stuck under there or a utility pole in the hood? :p

That photo was taken pretty much right after we bought it. I had to flex her out a little. Its a Jeep, might as well use it for what they made them for right? :D

Love it, I actually work in the Kit Car Industry (have done of years), is that an SEi?

Thanks! :)

Working in kit car industry sounds good - where do you work?

It is an SeiW with a red top 20XE.

<deep breath>Tuned by Swindon Motorsport (who I am given to understand are The Don for astra engines), Quaife close-ratio straight cut 5 speed Type-9, xr4x4 LSD, QED dry sump (w/mocal cooler), SBD TBs, Jenvey throttle linkage with MBE mgt, custom stainless BTB exhaust. Engine supposedly was pushing 215 when it was done (2005), but I imagine it's lost a few now.

I think it was a bit of a bargain, mainly because the bodywork is a bit tired - crack in the rear arch, some discolouring on the bonnet; otherwise mechanically sound - who cares about bodywork? It's not going to be in a show, it's being DRIVEN :). Goes like a rocket, and sounds UNBELIEVABLE. When I bought it, the exhaust wasn't packed. Made such a racket, I got that packed sharpish - and very glad I was too, as it only barely squeaked through the noise restriction at my first track day at Oulton Park.

My daily driver.

Bought it last November, had only 500,000+ miles. So, just barely broken in. :p

Currently averaging 50mpg.

I work on KC Magazine +PPC and CPRmag.com. Swindon absolutely are the guys to go to when it comes to Vauxhall stuff. That’s a very impressive set up, some serious quality components used, Quaife, Jenvey, QED and SBD all top parts and companies. The body work can be repaired or replaced at any time especially if you shop around. At the dedicated KC shows there’s always an auto jumbler with spare body parts going for a decent price, I’ll be at Newark show this weekend, if you are going please pop by the Kit Car Stand and say hello, ;-)

Here's a few more I dug up. Taken a few months ago shortly after installing these mad bright MTEC LED license plate lights. You'd think it would make my rear plate easier to read from a distance, but the light actually washes away the letters! :D

They even light up the floor behind the car :p

Rearview camera integrated into the trunk release handle. Not a cheap mod but well worth it. The LEDs also act as a sort of flashlight in the dark, hah.

That's fine so long as your not blinding people behind you then it's just douchey.

It wouldn't blind a mouse. The lights shine directly downwards, not at an angle. I've sat behind many vehicles at night time with similar LED lights installed and not found it to affect my night vision at all. It doesn't appear as 'in-your-face' IRL anyhow, the camera overexposes it slightly.

My HID reverse lights, on the other hand... ;)

I feel like reverse lights aren't bright enough to begin with.

No not at all! I can't she that well out the back especially with my tinted windows.

Ah okay :)

Only very light tints are permitted where I am so I don't actually have tints, just the factory rear sunshades. It's very convenient since the rear electric shade automatically rolls down when I shift into reverse. A nice alternative to window tints.

Of course, having a rearview camera is the best solution. At night time some bright lights shining out the back can help enormously with visibility with the camera though.

Definitely see if you can get an HID kit installed for your backup lights if you genuinely want to make them brighter. Even LEDs aren't that much brighter than stock. I can almost use them as headlights if I wanted to drive in reverse :p

That's a lot of miles! :eek::eek::eek:

Yeah, probably scared off a lot of prospective buyers, but not me. Periodic service is necessary for long life. :)

Here's a shot of the odometer taken today showing the long-term mpg at 50.0 and the mileage at 517K. The 0-150 scale is the instantaneous mpg. Highway cruise at constant 70mph without A/C nets approximately 75mpg.

I have not too dark ceramic tint which is mostly for heat reduction, but even then it's hard to see down my driveway which is pretty long and not well lit towards the street. Unfortunately, last time I checked about a year ago, there were no LEDs that had built in resistors so that I do not get a bulb out warning on my HUD.

Let me take a pic of my HUD saying 13 mpg average to anger the environmentalists. I guess that's the price you pay for having a Sporty V8.

Yup, I've got one of them, too. It doesn't have HUD, I have to manually calculate the fuel economy. I haven't though, too scared of what it will reveal. :p

Need to wash the Land Rover for a trip on Saturday, may take a photo after it's clean.

I've never heard of those mags. I will look them up!

It's reassuring to know though :) I knew it was pretty good, but from someone 'in the trade', 'tis better. They threw in a Brian James trailer as well (in fact, during price negotiation, he accepted the offer for the car immediately, and haggled over 200 quid for the trailer. I got the impression I'd gone in too high for the car. Oh well.)

I won't be there this weekend, as I'm going canoeing, but if I make it to one, will defo look you up!

There was a minor issue when I got it - it wouldn't start, or did, then ran lumpy as feck - 2 manifold pipes were cold, so it was only running on 2 cyls. Very local to me was a chap who'd had them for years, had all the software etc. We traced the fault to the engine mgt. He reckoned it was one of the ignition chips that was fault. I phoned SBD, to find that they don't make my ecu model anymore - 800 quid for a new ECU, plus 800 quid for a new loom! Nooooo! Turns out he knew a chap that could repair them. Cost me 46 quid to replace 2 ignition chips+p&p (have to in pairs apparently). That was a great day.

Most vehicles have T10 bulbs for their reverse lights, there should be plenty of LEDs on eBay with built in resistors.

Like I said though, if you want them to be really bright, look into an HID kit. They're difficult to wire up and fairly pricey but when you do, it's worth it. It's like headlights for the rear!

About to flick the switch on one of these, good deal before the financial year ends $38500 on the road.

Congrats on the high mileage. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the car with 500k miles on it? You rarely ever see something like that for sale lol

Not in the UK at any rate. It seems to be the prevailing view here that once a car has hit 100K miles, it's useless. The number seems to have a curious power in people's brains that makes them ignore it.
