Ahh I remember commenting on your S60 R back in the old thread.
Would you mind telling me more about your S60 R? I've just got an S60 not-R and am just curious about what might occur down the road.

So far I'm experiencing very poor gas mileage (16-17 MPG) and that's turning out to be quite expensive. But I still like it.

Sure... what model of S60 do you have? I assume it's the first gen and not the current one? Aside from the R there's the naturally aspirated base model, the 2.5T, and the T5.

Most of the issues I had with my car were specific to the R platform. It has extremely complex computer-controlled struts ($700 a corner) which like to fail, and the AWD system isn't great at handling the car's power, so the angle gear likes to fail too. Your car has conventional suspension and far less complex electrics.

That said, your fuel economy issue is interesting. Do you drive aggressively? Mostly on the highway or in the city?

I've got the old gen 2.5T.

I wanted an S60R (mainly for looks, don't really care about the extra performance) but aside from the higher price, I wasn't too optimistic about the larger turning radius (the normal S60 is already kind of big) so now I'm a bit glad I didn't get an R.

Anyways, my driving habits are not very aggressive at all. Its an automatic but I let it shift (at most) at 2500-2700 RPM which I wouldn't really consider aggressive. The fuel ratings are 19/28 so I suppose they aren't that off. But my is driving is not exactly city. It's more suburban. I'll generally drive at 40-50 for a few minutes before coming to a stop. The car is second hand so I'm not exactly sure what was done to it yet. Perhaps it needs to get new spark plugs or something. It's an 07 with about 40k miles on it. It's really fast when you floor it, I didn't see anything aftermarket on it. (I figured it could affect the fuel economy?) so I'm pretty sure its stock.

If you're interested in the looks of the R, you can always order the OEM sport kit and have it put on your car.

This may sound like a stupid question, but you are running premium gas right?

This is my buddy's S60 2.5T after some... heavy mods.

Um, noo
I tried using it before and the MPG fell a little lower but still about the same. Maybe I didn't try using it long enough.

Well just as a rule you're supposed to use premium gas when a car has forced induction, i.e turbocharger or supercharger. Just use it from now on:)

I know the last thing this thread needs is more pictures of my NSX, but I took these this morning and thought they really came out nice.

It's a picture thread, so I would feel free to end the discussion (or the bickering, which of course never happens in these threads) and post up photos and not feel one iota of guilt :)

And in that spirit, here's another. Nothing special about the photo and the only new thing on the car is a Buttonwillow track map decal on the left rear window (at least that's the only thing that is visible without lifting the car). It will be joined by a Thunderhill decal after next weekend's track day. I was down at Marina yesterday for the BMWCCA July autocross.

What have you done to the exterior? From what I can tell on there, the wheels, hood vents, wing are now black. Did you paint, replace or Plasti-dip those? Looks good!! I have a '13 Performance White GT with similar black accents.

Thanks! All the black accents and wheels were painted by the dealership. The black top is wrap. If I get tired of it, I can always remove it so can put black GT 500 stripes if I ever decide.

That is pretty cool that they did that. Were they selling it that way, or did you have them add that before you purchased? I opted for Plasti-dip, like the vinyl wrapped roof, it is completely removable. Did the vents, badges and rear filler panel.

Needs more low ;-) Wheel gap kills. I don't see why car companies continue with huge gaps that are 2-4 inches larger in diameter than the wheels, yet also have the wheel arch so low that lowering the car still gives a poor high ride height. Arches should be as high as possible on sports cars, akin to old British sports cars so that it can be properly slammed in case of its designed track day time.

Good looking Stang.

It was there show room car and everything was already as you see in my photos when I purchased it.
