Where does Australia fit in? This conversation sucks. Different countries have different roads, different cultures, and different demands of their cars. Comparing them internationally is pointless.

Yeah, but not so much anymore. The Commodore and Falcon are probably more similar to the Europeans nowadays. I know that's certainly the type of car they're aiming for from a marketing perspective. The Toyota Camry and Mitsubishi 380 obviously have a large Japanese influence too.

Anyway, don't bother arguing with the ignorant.

Exactly. Car arguments always end in tears. :D

I saw a Cadillac CTS on the road a while back. It must have been a test vehicle for Holden because they're not sold here. I've gotta say that it is one of the most handsome cars I've ever seen. Fantastic styling.

GMNA is using Holden a lot more lately for their RWD expertise. You should be seeing Commodores with long ass hoods soon. It is Cadillac's new V12 engine being tested. You should also see Camaro test mules as well down there. It doesn't surpise me that you saw a CTS down in Australia. Holden had a hand in the Sigma platform which underpins the current CTS. Wouldn't be surprised if they had a hand in Sigma II which underpins the new CTS. Holden had a huge hand developing the Zeta platform. Which underpins your new Commodore, the new Pontiac G8, Camaro, the next Impala, and a few more cars possibly. Holden will be providing us a mid size RWD platform to fit the next G6. I believe the platform is based off of the platform used for the Torana concept.

Ford Focus

Finally got some pictures of my first car!

Ford Focus 1.8i (1999)

Handling is amazing. It's a good fun car to drive!:D

My sister has a Focus, they're great fun to drive.

Apparently the American ones are pretty dire in comparison, especially the current models.

Wow! I'll try to keep my eyes peeled for that one. Most of the test vehicles end up in Victoria because that's where the head office and design studios are. We've got the factory here in SA though, so we still get a few mules through.

Yeah, it is really exciting. No one knows what kind of mule it will be in, but that is one possibility. And most likely as I don't think many people will notice a random Commodore with a bit longer hood. Where in the US, a Caddy with a long hood would draw attention like Tom Cruise's weird beliefs. :p It is said to be two 3.6 V6's sharing the same crankshaft or something like that. Or of course GM could again decide to put it on the backburner. But, so far Lutz has confirmed it is in development. Among other goodies like a 3 valve OHV engine.

PS: We really need to exchange AIM SN's or something. So we don't spam these kind of threads. :) :p

Volkswagen-style. Nice, I like it. There are a tonne of morphed Commodores as it is, so another long-hooded one surely won't draw too much attention. Plus, there's a lot of open space for GM guys to just disappear into without getting hassled by the public. I reckon your guess is a pretty well-founded one.

Yeah. I really should get into this IM stuff.

VW style is in W form. A W12( and W16 in case for the Veyron) are two V6's right next to each other. GM's design is one behind the other. But, it is similar to VW style. So close enough. :p

If you don't know, I love cars. I got my license not too long ago and I managed to pick up an awesome deal on this.

Erik! We're trading cars next time you're up here!

I have a new fetish for these things. Grr.

Checked on Wikipedia, and they look the same design wise. Still, the newer uk design looks very nice. I like the ST.

I love the ST especially in that color! :D

I'd love to have one. The Focus really does handle outstandingly. Adding extra punch in the ST version could only make the experience more pleasant.

Oh and as far as I know, the biggest difference styling-wise between the US and European Focus is that the US version has bigger bumpers. Oh and the US version of the new Focus is only available in the sedan styling, which is not the Focus' best suit...

Ford, please bring the NICE Focus over here. We are stuck with this awful old version, and we also have a really weak reskin on the way  FoMoCo needs to get their act in gear....

Not to be nosy, but what is "an awesome deal?" How much?

$6250. Its a 9/10 mechanically (cruise control does not work due to broken vacuum hose- oh well:rolleyes: ), 10/10 electrically, and a 8.5/10 aesthetically. I saw a similar one go on ebay motors for at least $7800.

I LOVE it. It rides pretty well for a very truck like vehicle. It is vastly underpowered but I can deal with it (TINY 4.0 V8 pushing a 4600lb vehicle). Anyone who wants to take me up on that fight go ahead. Lets just say its 0-60 time is 11.2 seconds- count that out. I love being up high and despite its tall stature, it never feels tippy IMO. I would actually say my sisters grand cherokee feels more tippy. Build quality is excellent. I drove it to school the other day and I got a lot of looks haha.

The old one does look pretty similar, but my Uncle rented an American one thinking it would be the same, only to find that the interior was not as good, and the car just felt "wrong"

Nice ride! pretty good deal. Just a broken vacuum hose? that's an easy fix. Hit pepboys or something like that and they'll be able to take care of that easily for you. Just a matter of replacing a little rubber hose.

I wouldn't trust any cars with pepboys, especially a quirky and eccentric british one that they don't know anything about. I've got a few ins with the Land Rover Dealer (friends dad is the manager, another friends dad is a salesman). If they still want a ridiculous amount of money for the fix my parents know a good repair shop.

No no no, you don't let pepboys or anyone do the work. I drive a turbocharged infiniti i30t, trust me I don't let them do any work on it. Don't let them touch it, but pull it into the parking lot, Identify the hose... and they can get you the correct replacement. Having the hookup at the dealership would definitely work though
