Still...

If it ends up being the same exact sensor, forget it. Google would be hitting too many strikes this year, just getting nearly every decision wrong.

We'll know the real deets soon.

If I were a betting man, I'd wager that Google is going to focus on their newest Pixel Visual Core. And does it really matter what sensor they use if it still makes the best pictures of any phone?

Exactly. The lens on the Xs isn't miles better than the one on the X. Improvements to the images quality come from the software.

Still. I welcome larger pixels and higher pixel count.

yep....Google has shown they are have the best post processing algorithm in the business.
I think Apple saw the benefit of using better post processing features with the Xs this year. It has paid of for them in a big way.
I am super interested to see if Google can improve on that algorithm and V-Core chip.
Still it would be nice to see more pixels and or dual cameras on the back.

I hope they're right, but I'm an eternal pessimist.

Can't blame you. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Forbes article is inaccurate. Who really knows.

Google, this year, has proven there really is no bottom to their bad decisions...

I fear pricing will be another deciding factor. How badly will Google get that wrong?

There are some more photos of the 3 XL and box along with photos of settings.
https://9to5google.com/2018/10/07/google-pixel-3-installed-apps-gallery/

In this screenshot of the Display settings, there doesn't seem to be a way to hide the notch, unless there are more settings after scrolling down.

Wow. Notch and chin. Really bad Notch. I can easily unsee a chin. After all I’m typing this on an 8 Plus.

I used to wear my hair cut in bangs or fringe as UK folks would say. I spent years peeking out at the world from under them. When I was on the Max looking at the display I did feel a bit like I was peeking past my old hairstyle. :p This one is really so very Nixonesque

I know I used this picture to make fun of the iPhone X notch. But the Pixel 3 notch really is worthy of the teasing.

Oh and looking closely at the notch and the camera lenses I think I even see a little axolotl face!

There must be a reason for such a deep notch!...

I'm thinking the left ear puts an end to World hunger & the right ear achieves World peace.

& you can customise them of course so that World Hunger/Peace can be on whatever side you want.

Lol! That would be nice. I do enjoy laughing at the looks of this thing but I do hope Google somehow manages to wow all of us.

I forget, is LG making the displays for these? The idea of that used to fail to appeal. But after what I’ve been through with the pwm inflicted problems I had on the Max, I am hoping if they are doing the displays that they do a great job and somehow manage to make a display that doesn’t induce health problems in susceptible people.

It’s been a week and I still can’t look at my S9+ for more than a minute before a migraine starts. I’ve been working in my garden in nice natural light as much as possible.

I hope the stereo sound is great, too. My Max sounded amazing. Pixel needs to match that.

Anyway I can’t wait for the big reveal. It will be interesting to see their custom case selection this year, too. I know a lot of people didn’t like the knit cases that were released last year but I found they have held up really well so far and protected Snowball pretty well.

I can't wait for the reveal.

However, I will definitely advise anyone to wait a couple of months before actually buying one. Don't be a guinea pig unless, you know, you're really into that kind of thing!!

If it was the same sensor I'm sure whatever software they would be using to improve the pics would be ported over to the pixel 2xl and 2. So in that case it wouldn't make sense because I would just get a pixel 2xl instead.

The XDA page for the Pixel 3 XL is a ghost town. Normally when the XDA opens up the web pages for brand new Nexus phone a few years ago there would be pretty active threads and post going on for a couple weeks prior to the release and it would be crowded with lots of comments.

But the 3 XL XDA page has no meaningful recent activity

https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl

To me that's a sign this phone won't be popular whatsoever, if even the [H]ardcore tech nerds aren't into it.

And then to ask $900 - $1,000 for this phone ? LOL good luck with that. It needs to be sold at Nexus pricing near $599 or so, if they really want to sell all the stock they'll be left and stuck with after a few months.

The clips they use in the video just make it seems like they are hiding something for a big reveal lol. But with all the disappoints, in no way am I getting my hopes up.

Yeah, pretty interesting. I wonder if they're just trying to generate hype by leaning into the rumors or if there's actually a big surprise.

We'll see.

Kinda sounds like the OnePlus 6t might steal the show this year, or, well, just "own" the pixel line

Does anyone have their credit card ready for a pixel 3?
