I guess in reality I can't comment until I try a 13 Pro myself. I just don't take any of these reviewers words seriously. All I watch the videos for is to see the actual devices compared to others for colour purposes. :p As iPhone colour saturations always change year on year.

I personally don't agree that these upgrades are substantial. Battery, sure but we generally see companies always try and improve battery year on year, so for me that one is expected.

Camera. I'm not seeing a significant upgrade, so would need to try it myself. I've always liked iPhone cameras though as they're probably the most reliable. They snap photos very quickly and I find results are generally always useable.
But when it comes to zoom I think it's lacking still.

Your point about there being more pressure on Google though? I don't think Google cares too much otherwise they could have tried to get the release in line or before / just after the iPhone release. But we still don't know when it'll be. I do think they are trying harder than they have before though. The early advertising of a phone that hasn't even come out yet is quite telling and unusual for them.

Similarly I also don't think Apple care what Google do. Apple could release the exact same phone next year in new colours but this time with just an AoD as a single new feature, and people would flock to it.
If Apple did care about the competition I think they'd have done more with zoom lenses as Huawei and Samsung have both shown over the years what good results you can get with zoom lenses. Everyone at one stage was waiting for Apple to implement something and here we are with... A 3x telephoto.

I think Google just need a release not plagued with issues and let the device do the talking. I'm quite confident they will get it right. Famous last words...

When it comes to battery improvements, sure it's pretty common with processor and battery size increases to get a little better each each. But to improve by several hours of SOT is a giant leap.

As for the cameras, sure we'll have to see. I think them adding basically a preference selection based on the users personal taste is huge. It's basically a dynamic filter that will scale color based on whether you prefer iPhone colors, Samsung saturated colors, or Google's in between colors. That's pretty cool. And the cinema video mode looks pretty solid from the demos Ive seen but it remains to be seen how useful that is.

Where I think you're way off is saying Google doesn't care about Apple. That couldn't be further from the truth. It's clear that Google is trying to immitate Apple. They have been more years. OS creator making their own hardware and soc tailored to their OS....sound familiar? Apple is Googles only real competition in the smartphone world. Samsung is more of a competitive partner but they still benefit from Samsungs success as it's still their software. I don't think it's any coincidence that Google announced the hardware prior to Apples event. Releasing at the same time would have been idiotic. Apple would've overshadowed the Pixel 6 release and stolen their press coverage. It would have been a dumb move.

Wrong. Google has been making significant custom silicon and not a rehash of ARM since at least 2016 with Tensor Processor Unit for machine learning in data centers then scaled down to Titan M in 2018 in Pixel 3. Google is approaching from a different direction that's top down. Some dwell too much on SoC CPU performance when it's inadequate for hardware acceleration of AI machine learning, video encoding/decoding, image processing, etc.

You're getting lost in semantics here. Sure, they are taking a different approach about their silicon design. But the overall structure of OS owner, creating their own hardware, with custome SOC to fit their OS and their strengths is exactly Apple.

Furthermore, skimping on hardware specs and leaning on software is something Google has done since the beginning of the Pixel line. Again, sound familiar? Putting a high priority on cameras? Before Pixels entered the fray iphones had the best cameras by a mile and other Android manufacturers didn't put that much importance on it.

I think the direction Google has taken since starting the Pixel line has clear comparisons to what Apple does IMO.

Greetings- day 1 lurker since high school (07’) and finally decided to make an account.

I provided a link to a tweet of pixel 6 pro pvt unit for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Gorgeous but not sure how I feel about the curved display yet.

Welcome sir, and I agree in regards to the curved edge display, I am not a fan, at all. I am no iPhone fan either, but the flat squared screen display on the iPhone 12 / 13 is far superior and higher quality feeling.

Hey welcome to the forum. Wow, great debut post contribution! Thank you.

That grey on grey color looks good. I wonder if that’s how the final one will look. I’m fine with the curvature of that display since that’s how my s21 Ultra looks. But my budget-bound butt is still looking at the flat screen one. Which is fine. I’m lucky to be able to have all the phones I get, especially considering as the kids get older they get more expensive to keep around! 🤣

I was looking forward to this phone, but I am concerned about the Samsung modem. I have an 11 Pro Max with an Intel modem, and it sucks. Is anyone familiar with Samsung's modem performance?

I somehow didn't realise it had a curved screen until now, I'm really not a fan of curved screens. One of the main reasons I got an S21+ over the Ultra.
I definitely prefer flat screens but the level it’s at on the s21 Ultra is a massive improvement and refinement to the horse crap they were doing to the displays. I really enjoyed my s7 Edge overall, I mean I really remember that phone very fondly. But that curve was the stupidest thing I’ve seen and personally owned on a phone. Wait, maybe it was the second stupidest thing. The shiny silver bezels that blinded me whenever I tried to use it outdoors were the worst, though very attractive to me at the time. Indoors though, it was great.

Depending on how drastic the curved edge is, I think this curved edge issue could be overblown. I agree the old curved edge Samsung screens were bad. The images were distorted and it led to too many accidental touches. But the last few iterations are hardly noticeable. I too would prefer a flat screen, but there's no denying that curved edges feel better in hand and make the phone feel slimmer.

I'll reserve my judgement until I get my hands on it.

My thoughts too! That gray color looks amazing. That would be my first choice.
The slightly curved display complaints are so overblown IMHO....the curve is said to be less than the S21 Ultra. I haven't' heard anyone in any forum I'm on say they had accidental touches on the S21U.
Would love a flat display...but me thinks this is much ado about nothing in the end.

I do not like curved screens and not sure why pixel thinks it’s a good idea. That said I’m sure they will make up for it in other ways
I would guess that maybe they look at the curves as a small way to mitigate the potential complaints about the size. And it will indeed work. With my slimmer cases, my S21 does not feel like a big phone in the way my iPhone 12 Pro Max does. Yet the display is of course extremely generous.

But holding it is ergonomically pleasant in a way none of the Pro iPhones has been for me. And part of that is due to the curves. It’s such a softly flowing design to feel in hand.

I can see this thread being full of moaning comments when it's released, criticising everything. And most won't even own it. No doubt the Apple troll that pops up on Android thread will reappear.

I would predict the Pixel 6 Pro will go down as the number one android phone of 2021.

But that’s not hard to do the competition is pretty sad there’s only Scamdung with thier TouchJizz UI, and OneMinus phones.

Of course there will be. Lol it's a great annual tradition for all new phones. The 13's currently are getting roasted on every site where there's a comment section.

The new pro color is getting particularly scathing comments. I didn't even know it was possible for people to hate blue, but apparently this is an especially odious blue that has toxic properties against testosterone and a special affinity with infants. Oh and it is tacky and unprofessional, so you'll lose that big raise for sure if your boss sees you with it in a boardroom. Keep away! You've been warned!

All kidding aside, I know it can be very wearing of one's patience when we get excited about a particular phone and it seems everyone is hellbent on ridiculing us out of that excitement. Or even benignly overanalyzing.

Trust me, I know. I adore my husband and he's usually right there with me being excited about these new phones. But the last couple of years since...and even the one before the pandemic, in which we lost beloved family members, pets, friends and coworkers one after the other after the other, along with other trials universal to everyone at our stage of life/careers/etc, finally took that out of him. He's not quite the same guy who was practically bouncing with excitement to join me on that crazy Note 7 adventure. He's not ridiculing me, exactly, but he is questioning my choices!

And he's become very cynical about Google. And I can't get upset with him. He's gone through major job transitions since the pandemic. We've mercifully kept our financial security and hopefully will continue to thrive and be of service to others, but there were a few months it could have gone the other way. While it's not actually necessary to, he's gone back to our very frugal mindset that saw us through so well through most of our lives. And that means giving a cynical eye to any company that's played a bit fast and loose with qc and customer service. And of course there's a mature part of me that respects his point of view.

Lol, but being an older fatter ethnic version of i-Justine over these phones the last few years has been my touchstone for happiness when chaos is swirling around me. So having to walk back my energetic enthusiasm in the face of my husband’s measured and mature caution is a bit of a bummer.

Coming here to see snarky biting comments about any phones is going to be even more of a bummer. But I'm braced for it! I'm going to try my best to meet all that with patience and grace and humor.

Constructive criticism, though, is always welcome.
