What's the real verdict on 1080p vs. 1440 resolution on this phone?

Does going to 1080p truly save battery life and give better performance?

Or sticking with 1440 resolution make zero difference?

I've tried both and I seriously cannot tell or see a difference whatsoever, both look identical. Like literally 100% exactly the same to my eyes.

What's the consensus?
I've never seen much difference

That said I don't like to switch things off or not use what the phone has so I've kept mine at QHD

Little camera test.
Night mode. One is the 14 Pro Max. One is the Pixel 7 Pro.

Which one do you all prefer? I will reveal which is which later. Unless you techies can tell by doing something with the photo haha.

The bottom looks washed out to me and has a lot of artifacts. I feel like the top picture is the best shot. The bottom one doesn't look great to me.

I think the first one is better (and I think it's the iPhone)

Wouldn't shock me though if the second is truer to life regarding color

I don't think the Pixel 7 will have that option. If it does you will find it in Settings --> Display --> Screen Resolution
It doesn't , no big deal.
However I set up my face unlock for the first time and it is lightning fast. Not sure how well it works like if another person with glasses tries it. But it is way better and consistent than the fingerprint.

I had it ordered and with that trade in deal 950 for a s22 ultra 512, it was a sweet deal. I just couldn't get over the issues I've been reading about right now with call signal strength and overheating. Oh well.

I strongly prefer the first one.

And I'm going to assume the second is the iPhone because my iPhone 13 Pro Max has the same tendency to bring out exaggerated details in fuzzy things (the blanket and pillow) that no one was asking for.

For those that are curious between FHD and QHD+ on the 7 Pro. Look at the top menu bar as it changes position when you swap between both resolutions. Besides that it really is tough to tell the difference between FHD and QHD+

yeah but if you go those type of things you would never buy a new phone. I mean there are the same or similar issues reported in the iPhone threads and the Samsung threads.
The main point is all phones have people reporting issues after a new phone release. Has that stopped you from buying iPhones in the past?

Well said. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has many a complaint about overheating, signal issues, and a litany of other issues.

I liked the 2nd one.. To my amateur eyes, I see more details in the second one, especially looking at the whites in the background pillar, and the difference between the two shades of green on the wall.

So. The order was...
First pic - Pixel 7 Pro
Second pic - iPhone 14 Pro Max

In terms of the colour accuracy - the iPhone was no where near. The sofa is more vibrant pink than this is making out. It makes it look more grey in this picture same with the wood of the fireplace in the background. The colours are not that muted in real life. Even in the very low light this was taken in.

The only thing I will say, is that the pixel makes out the room is better lit than it actually was, whereas the iPhone captured the lack of light more realistically, but in doing so it provided a more washed out photo in the colours.

These were both just point and shoot with no edits, so I'm sure edits could bring the iPhones photo closer to pixel, if you like that look. And vice versa pixel to iPhone.

But for me, the Pixel photo is much better.

I didn't know what phone took which shot but I thought the first picture had a little bit more color pop to it. Those pictures were really close in quality. It validates what Youtuber Marques has said that Google might not use the best camera but it has the best software to produce the better pictures in most cases.

Yeah I can't argue with that. But I personally prefer the output of every shot the pixel takes Vs iPhone 14. Unless it is in RAW when the iPhone can often clinch it. But you then can't do anything with the raw files that the average Joe wants to do. Posting to forums, socials etc. As it will just degrade the quality. They're also impossible to send anywhere due to how large they are.

My only two complaints are pretty much the same I've experienced with the prior Pixel .. screen on auto is too low at times and does not learn when you adjust brightness ..AOD I've had situations where I need to hit the power button to get into the phone ..
