You’re still hung up on only considering the hardware, still ignoring other characteristics of value including software, usability, ecosystem, warranty, quality, privacy and security.

I pointed out that I prefer iOS, but understand it is not superior to Android. I pointed out usability, but not superior to Android. Why is the quality of an iPhone X superior? Glass shatters. Why is warranty better on iPhone? None of my Android friends have any issues getting their phones repaired under warranty. Security? Well that may be true. And that could be a mitigating reason to choose apple. Surely not the only reason to do so. Everything you pointed out is a matter of opinion and not fact.

Fine, let’s continue to talk only hardware, which you keep saying the iPhone isn’t better, and say you’ve shown you don’t get more with the iPhone.

Correct. The iPhone line is not superior to the Note8.

You say the X does not have a superior OLED screen or camera, but in the next sentence admit it does when you say “the average consumer will never see the slight improvements.”

Hardly. I said that because I was sure you would refer to the displaymate tests declaring apple to have the best display. As if the Galaxy line displays are terrible. If the X has a better display it will be unnoticeable to any average consumer. I for one do not see the superiority in the X's screen to an S8.

You admit FaceID is better, but then say you “lose nothing by choosing Note8”. What you lose is FaceID, the most secure, unobtrusive method for continuously verifying that it’s you who should have access to the phone.

The Galaxy line has a retina scanner and a fingerprint scanner. I lose nothing, and gain a fingerprint scanner. The FaceID tech found on an iPhone is ahead of Samsungs tech but still FaceID is not without issues. It can only get better.

But then you completely ignore the A11, which puts the Qualcomm 835 to shame. Toms Hardware ran benchmarks, and the A11 “obliterated” the 835:

You are hung up on benchmark scores.

yeou’ve convinced yourself the Note 8 is better, and I’m sure facts won’t sway you. Ok, whatever makes you happy you should buy. You obviously prefer your Android. That’s fine.

Huh? I have never stated the Note8 is better, nor have I claimed I own one. I have stated that I prefer Apple and iOS but understand that the competition offers much more out of the box than apple for less money. That is indisputable fact. Oh and check out my signature to show how wrong your statement here truly is :)

As I’ve said, you may pay more with Apple but you get more. The hundreds of millions of buyers who choose iPhone flagships over Android flagships know that, and they have spoken, in vast numbers.

Thing about that is, you are still wrong. You have convinced yourself that because folks pay the high prices this must mean apple offers more. Could not be farthest from the truth. But I will agree to disagree.

I was paying $47/mo with my 7 plus 256 GB and I still pay $47/mo with my 8 plus 256 GB.
Yes, but now your phone won’t be paid off for an extra year.

These payment plans hide the cost of the device pretty effectively, but the cost is always there. It was there when cell contracts subsidized the devices, it’s there if you pay full price up front, and it’s there in an upgrade plan. They may hide it by not changing the monthly rate, but nobody ever gets an upgrade for free. You’ll pay now or you’ll pay later.

No phone is truly worth over $400. You're only paying more for the bragging rights and luxury the same way people pay to fly first-class, rent a limo, stay in five-star hotels, and eat at five-star restaurants.

I'm no longer considering Black Friday next week. It's pointless because all that really is for us is to spend and spend. Nothing is free and if it is say a free Caribbean cruise from Pechanga Casino, you still have to pay airfare to Florida and all the tips you need to give the ship crew.

Remember all these brands are like Las Vegas casinos. We don't stand a chance against them. Vegas hotels offers free rooms and comps because they want us to keep coming back until our bank account is depleted. The longer we play, the more we lose. In the end, they get it all.

People spending $1300 for another iPhone using the same old apps and habits as the previous one. Like 99% of these owners don't even know how to use it to its full potential. It's for simple email, browsing, YouTube, social media, and like 90% of what a $50 phone can do. These businesses are just dangling carrots to us.

Think automobiles and their planned obsolescence. People want the newest year model when you can get a two-year model and slightly used for nearly 50% off. People can go ahead and justify paying $1000 for an iPhone. I find it silly and they are a slave to these brands.

What's the rush when we know a better one that looks like it arrives in less than a year? And what's the point of paying that much when the differences in performance from its predecessor is negligible? I remember back in 2009, many TVs cost $2000+. Now you can get a decent one for $200-$300 and way better than the previous decade.

Any car will take you to the same place. Any home will still put a roof over your head. Any restaurant is out there to feed you. You can fly first-class or economy, and people are still headed in the same direction. All this paying for "extra" is for luxury, bragging rights, and showing off but not NECESSITY.

Don't fall prey to them and this endless loop. Patience is a virtue in tech. The smartest consumers are the ones who wait 1-2 years for a price drop and don't mind older tech when they saved hundreds of dollars and the device is not much worse than its successors.

If you think planned obsolescence is a myth, then Apple probably has a bridge to sell you and will probably ask you to jump from. And you will say "YES, MAN!"

Planned obsolescence has been around for over a century since the light bulb followed by automobiles. All phone brands are guilty of this practice.

Apple's best products with longevity are Macs because your Mac can be on Leopard and it could still work beautifully while cookie-cutter iPhones get sold to us like toothbrushes, shoes, and socks.

I didn’t buy the X because I think it’s overpriced so I’d definitely not consider a phone that is hundreds of pounds more. I don’t like massive phones either as I’ve got an iPad if I need a big screen.

It’s a no for me.

Even college books have planned obsolescence.

Does this $1300 iPhone have apps that can't run on the previous ones?

Does this $1300 iPhone have a $700 better camera than the previous ones?

Does this $1300 iPhone have double the battery life and performance than the previous ones?

Does this $1300 iPhone have the most amazing display ever that surpasses my $1000 4K TV?

Is this $1300 iPhone using the strongest materials ever made that makes it nearly indestructible?

No. No. No. No. No, but it can do AR and can make you unlock it in a different way!

What's this iPhone made from? Plutonium? Can I time travel with it and generate 1.21 gigawatts? Is it made out of Thor's Mjolnir or Cap A's shield made out of vibranium? If none of the above, don't give in.

If this $1300 iPhone can't make me teleport from city to city, time travel, can't change the way I use my phones with exclusive apps only found on it, isn't made of 24 karat gold, and isn't really $700 better than the previous ones, then my answer is still hell no.

Actually I am not. That's your interpretation. I explained that neither company makes a superior choice and that it's user preference today.

I agree and disagree. It's subjective. And opinion. Android fans would be all too happy to disagree with us. I choose apple because of everything you outlined, but I am aware that I can get a very similar experience with Android and get more out of the box. Read real world reviews by Flossy or iPhonedo on youtube. The iPhone X is awesome, but not superior to anything on the market.

I love watching Flossy video, his voice excuses even he reads phone book and I’ll be both fan and subscriber.
But in this particular case I don’t agree with his choice of choosing iPhone 8 Plus over X model and overall choosing the Note 8 as a complete winner of all devices no matter OS is.
iPhone X has some unique features only present in this device and some representative to iPhones line this year also top notch (whatever it sound).
So my list of winners features are:
- IOS phone with oled screen and small bezels
- superior stereo speakers for smartphones
- superior audio capability with BT (AAC files, FLAC support)
- faceid better than any try on android phones
- 3D touch and haptic feedback with user experience so smooth and polished (working extremely well for 3rd party apps as games)
- CPU and GPU unbeatable
- last but least gesture based UI, sth I was dreaming of no matter OS used. Switching between apps, multitasking mode, returning to HS, everything happens with swiping. No buttons, both physical or software ones.
Killer feature, break dealer call it whatever you wish but it was interaction I’ve been waiting for years and my dreams came true.
And much more I had possibly forgotten or hadn’t mentioned.

I certainly wouldn’t buy one at that price, but I know many will, I plan to get the X 64GB at present and think it’s a daft price, but I have my reasons so...

But I can see my brother in law easily spending that much for one to upgrade his 6 Plus. He’ll keep it for a few years and to him it’s the one device he uses the most.

As a plus user I look forward to next year. Those that complain about the size never liked the + models to begin with and likely won’t change their minds. Those that have been plus users for years will probably upgrade to the X plus or whatever they decide to call it.

The funniest part of this whole thing is that some people with older devices are still able to use the 32bit apps that were obliterated in iOS 11.

If they come out with a bigger X type phone next year. They will most likely drop the price of the new 5.8 inch model to $899 (and get big cheers for that) and price the bigger model at $999 (and get cheers for having a bigger model).

On the contrary, it's possible that Apple could discontinue the current 5.8 iPhone X, and then re-introduce the new version of the 5.8 iPhone X along side the 6.5 rumored OLED. Similarly to what they do with introducing a new Apple Watch, but they discontinue the previous version. Just a thought without any evidence that will happen.

I would definitely pay that for the Plus. It’s absurd in a way when you think about . I mean, $1,300 for a phone is ******* insane, but I’m one of the millions of crazy people because it’ll be mine no matter what price tag it has. I love my Apple devices

Honestly, I think Apple needs to give 3 Versions of the X.
4.5 X mini- with 2GB
5.8 X- 3 GB
6.5 X plus- 4GB
That’s the only differation they should have as the plus needs more GB’s to supply the pixels. The rest should be the same. That way most of the Apple customers will be satisfied also I really want the Gold color in lineup next year that would be the one I would go for.

I will likely NOT buy a $1000 iPhone X even with a free $300 Walmart gift card or Sam's Club waiving the activation fee. I read people calling up their Walmart and they don't even have any X in stock. Why bother?

Black Friday is just another way to stimulate the economy and spend and spend like free comps from Las Vegas hotels. Only thing that interests me is the 64gb microSD card for $14 at Walmart. The rest are just stuff that will clutter my room that I don't need.

Price of an iPhone X on Verizon installments wouldn't really cost $700-$1000. The longer you are in contract with them, the more you pay. Cheapest Verizon plan is $55+ but I need unlimited, so it goes to about $90. $2160 in 24 months not including the $1000+ iPhone X. Nah. Pass.

No smartphone is truly worth over $400. I actually got so used to the iPhone SE size, my G5 feels bulky now. You know how some think the Plus models feels awkward to hold after using the X? Well, mine is the opposite. I still can't reach my thumb from all corners of the X size. Even the 4.7" iPhone is a struggle.

I'm just going to play the waiting game for the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact for a price drop. I could care less of the Mirai new design from Sony being introduced next year on their Xperias. I really don't mind the top and bottom bezels. XZ1C is perfect size and doesn't have a fragile glass back like the X does.

actually 98% of the consumer goods out there are guilty of this as well, it's just that phones, electronics, etc cost considerably more so you'd care more because it hurts more.

GDP is counting on us after all.

the fact that goods are made with a shorter life shelf then they used to have is no big secret.

GDP is counting on us after all.

Word that comes to mind is “dense” as it weighs 175g same as Samsung S8+ but shorter. And the S8+ after six weeks feels perfect. The Note 8 has ardent supporters.

https://www.sammobile.com/2017/11/14/four-things-love-about-samsung-galaxy-note-8

Just ran GeekBench 4. Apple iPhone 8 smokes my Samsung S8+ nearly 2:1.
Running Samsung phone via DeX on monitor, kB and mouse is neat. But needs Note 8 to do it right.

Quite possibly, I love the current X. If the larger model wasn’t too big, say about the width of an 8+ without the bezels. I’d definitely consider it.

The X has only 5% less active (lit) area than the 7/8 Plus. That satisfies the larger fonts needed after age 50/60. The X Plus is a true marketing question. It is not needed for the larger fonts. But it will be a more fun iPaddish like experience. Women warmed over to the Plus immediately more than men as they carry in their purse, not in the pocket.

When the dust settles, after prices settle below $ 1000 , these are my guesses:

iPhone X (percentage of X purchasers) 80% of men, 60 % of women
iPhone X Plus (percentage of X purchasers), 20% of men, 40 % of women
