Shouldn't a front LED Notification light be a standard feature on every smartphone?

I love the LED feature. WIth Lightflow it helps me distinguish who is who also with custom settings.

The apple patent looks awesome though. I think it would save battery as the screen turns on for notifications on current iphones.. with the LED notification if you leave the LED on rather than pulse/blink it saves more battery that way too..

Some people have complained about it because it's annoying when you are unable to get to the phone, or you know what's come and are ignoring it. Probably a small amount of people, but it is a valid argument. I didn't check the link about what Apple had patented, but if they were to make the home button do the same sort of fading blink their MacBooks do, that would be very nice to have as an alternative.

I love the notification led on my s3. Anyone who says its useless will be the same person that will praise it the day Apple announces an iPhone with led notifications.
If Apple put an LED notifier on the iPhone, some iPhone users will claim that Apple perfected or even invented the LED notification.

I think an LED on the iPhone could look pretty good, imagine having it on the side, flush with the metal. A slowly pulsating white light like the "sleep" light on the Macbook Pro.

I like it but i wish the stock firmware allowed a better LED control for colors. Right now i get blue for calls/texts/gtalk messages, orange for facebook if it is logged in, and red for battery. Would like to split that blue into more colors.

I had to remove lightflow from my phone because it practically destroyed the awesome battery life i was having.

I've always said the home button should light up.

Loved my notification light on my old samsung flip phone.

The white square on the home button lighting up would be perfect.

I wish I had a LED on my Skyrocket, Samsung seems to have put it on everything, except the S2 models...

You can have it, but you'll need to root I think. You can have your capacitive touch buttons become led notification lights. You only have the white blinding color, but it is very similar to what the HP Touchpad used with its home button.

And you are right. Samsung really pissed people off by getting rid of that feature with the S2. Glad we got it back on the S3.

The app you want is called BLN. It stands for Blinking Light Notification. It's in the Play Store. It works with missed phone calls and emails, but you will need to use GoSMS if you want it to work with missed texts. You just have to disable 'wake screen' in GoSMS. Enjoy your new led notifications.

Hate it with a passion. I have a BB for work - is there a way to turn it off?

Doesn't seem to do much for me on the blackberry. I get over 100 emails a day. It is always blinking. It would be helpful if Apple had notifications tied to the VIP contacts.

Indeed, before I got my S3, ( I had a 3GS on AT&T , then switched to sprint ), I had a cheapo free Samsung Replenish, which I think is a low end phone at best, and even it had an LED on it.

Super useful.

Blue= Charged
Flashing Blue = incoming FB notification
Flashing Red = Text
Solid Red = Missed call.

Super useful imo.

I don't really know if Lightflow is draining too much of my GS3's battery or not but I don't care anymore. I just got an external battery charger and 2 extra batteries :D

It doesn't bother me to not have it. I did like it on my old blackberry, and I would appreciate it if Apple added one to the iPhone. It's not a deal breaker to not have one though.

That would be brilliant, how about a capacitive home button where the white square slowly pulses?

Believe HP has a patent on a home button also being a notification indicator. Not positive, but that may be why no one else has done that?

Since you have the Int'l version, have you checked to see if you are draining 43mAh or 4.3mAh? It should be the later.

I'll have to check when my new one arrives.
