I got a new custom desk. Design by myself & built by a professional carpenter I know. I'm very happy with it - finally so much space. :)

Amazing... I'm in the middle of building a new table too but it's not that big! Have you got your original sketches to share?

any suggestions?

:apple::apple::apple:looking at bose companions or harman kardan soundsticks, but running out of space any suggestions welcome

Very nice!

Thank you very much! :)

I like the collection of PowerBooks. :)

Finally I can accomodate them near me. I have a clamshell iBook too that I want to put where all the "important" sheets are next to the PowerBooks.

Here you go. At first I wanted something even bigger - inspired by a Star Destroyer. But that would have been, well, too big and too expensive. So I thought about a more minimalistic approach. In the end I sort of combined them to the desk I have now. I think my desk will last a lot longer than any computer I'll ever put on it. :D

Good luck with your project!

technowar, How do you like the E10? I've been thinking about getting one and I'm just wondering how the sound quality is.

chaosbunny, What software did you use for the rendering?

Thank you very much! :)

I like the Star Destroyer theme! Nice set up btw.

Very nice and futuristic design! That sharp corner point worries me though.

Cinema 4D. These are pretty quick and dirty.

Thanks. I've actually been looking into picking up some better 3D software. I use SketchUp Pro at work, and it's OK, but I really want to take my designs to the next level.

Unfortunately, I'd have to buy it myself, and C4D isn't inexpensive.

Wow, 3.3m!! That’s huge. When my project is finished, at most it’s going to hit 2.4 or 2.5 and I thought that was ginormous.
Thanks for sharing the pics, they are very interesting! I’ve been using Sketchup for my drawings and I’m a total noob. To be able to see lighting etc and proper colours would’ve been SO helpful.

edit: that star destroyer thing is AWESOME.

Okay you've given me ideas for the next build :) Thank you!

I've wanted soundsticks for a long time, and you know what? I decided this time around, I'd buy speakers for the looks instead of how they sound.

No regrets. Sure, a slight downgrade, but the extra desk space is so awesome, plus they're fun to look at!

And they match my monitor! Hehe. I wonder if we'll see a more sci-fi style monitor now that the Mac Pro has gone full out sci-fi again. Hrm, I really should change the default wallpaper shouldn't I.

So I have moved back out of my place and back into my parents for a little while until I can find a new place back in London.

I picked up some new speakers recently too.

wow. just wow. i've never really delved into custom desks but i do acknowledge the flexibility they offer.

after seeing the designs you linked in a later post i am oh-so keen to get one built for me once i move out in a few years.

btw your designs are awesome and the final design is amazing. i wish i had the creative ability to do that.

I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback for my desk. I really appreciate it! :)

Here are some more shots:

1. I already have a good use for all that new space.

2. For cable management I have this area underneath the desk where I can just stuff everything in. Out of sight out of mind. :)

I'd disembowel myself walking into that top desk in the dark.

ouch! kinda of like what happened in the film "Lost Highway" by David Lynch. But, in that film it involved a coffee table, if I remember correctly.

but the desk you ended up with is probably one of the better desks i have seen in this forum. i like the actual desk space you have. but, is there a concern in the future of the desk bowing down due to the length and weight on it over time?
