An old friend:

My very first Mac: eMac G4 1.25GHz, 768MB RAM, 40GB HD, Combo Drive. It's been sitting in my brothers room unused for a year. I really love it to death. The screen beats the hell out of my 17" C2D iMac and MacBook. I really wish I could find somebody who wanted it or find some uses of my own for it. It's still a great machine.

I am currently in the process of building a brand new desk for my 24" iMac. It's going to me hand made from cherry wood, and stained deep java. It will be a pretty unique modern design, complete with a hidden drawer which will hold all of my electronics and keep them out of sight!

If you want to check it out, I am posting updates as I build it!

What you've done to your G4?

Not to mention the ridiculous prices people will pay for things... :D

I think there are P3 laptops on there for upwards of $300, and people actually buy them!

Yeah, I had the G4 sold for $700, and then the Superdrive went out the night before the exchange, and I ended up selling it for $350. Still though... a 5 year old computer, with a non-functioning cd player/burner, and still got $350 from it.

Nice. That's a pretty solid setup (or it was, I guess).
Haha, yeah... thanks! I think you are going to like my next one a lot better though. I will be sure to post the pictures here as well as on my desk thread (which you can find in my signature.) Hopefully it turns out as good as I think it will!

haha, that happens to so many people on MR, when they're ready to sell whatever it is, the DVD drive always has to go out, and the super drive not working isn't worth $350, its worth $99.

Yeah, normal people can't switch out a superdrive, so the computer becomes worth considerably less to them. Many of the functions they would enjoy (dvd playing, cd burning/ripping, etc. are no longer functional!

I think the guy I sold it to may have been capable of switching the superdrive out, but I was not.

That guy was still very lucky that you took 50% off the iMac. What were the specs on it to make it sell for so much in the first place?

$350 was about how much people were paying for the same machine on eBay at the time (with a perfectly functioning superdrive).

1ghz
768 RAM
80 GB HD
Leopard

It was quite the machine in 2002!

Oh, I'm sure it was, I just am amazed anyone would pay $700 for it. :)

Very nice! How are you liking the monitor? I'm probably getting one this weekend, but it's always good to see one in action before I buy.

Again doing your sneaky trading? ;) :p

The X41 is leaving today, and I'm taking a dual 800MHz G4 and a Fujitsu Lifebook into custody. I'm also theoretically selling my 128k. ;)

Sneaky? No. However, I do have to do all this between 11AM and 3PM... :(

Did you intend all along not to keep the X41 for long? Or just a deal you couldn't pass up? I've never had a Fujitsu anything, but saw an ad for their tablet notebooks today. They look interesting.

BA005: Nice setup. I didn't realize the Rain Design laptop stands were angled like that. I almost got one for my MBP, but I'm glad I didn't as they don't open very wide. It sure looks good, though. :)

One thing anyone who knows me can say is that I don't buy computers to keep. I resold this one for a profit, but I did love it.... :D

Anyway, next conquest is a Dell Inspiron 640m. Whoopdie-doo.
