Whats with people having powermacs and powerbooks but using old school crt monitors haha

So there's a clause somewhere written that just because you own and use a Powermac or Powerbook you have to use some fancy flat-panel display?

i think hes coming from a designers point of view im creative and artistic but i give a damn about the room i live in and work in, if it looks good then i feel good and i enjoy people around commenting on the fact of how nice my room looks, espeacially by the G5 and nice looking easthetically pleasing new mac flatscreens

hehehe

I could have a two year old G4 with a pretty dual Cinema Display setup, OR I could have a recent dual G5 with a huge 21" CRT and a Cinema Display.

I chose the latter. Anyway, I've calibrated both monitors and the four year old CRT makes the one year old LCD look bad. The CRT has much better color.

In my case, my old monitor (21" Apple CRT) died a year or so ago and I've been planning on getting a new G5 with either dual 20"s or a single 23" - I just can't do that while we're paying two mortgages. The house is up for sale again in Feb, so I've got a few more months of toughing it out on a 17" CRT...bleh - its so unbelievably painful, its really getting tough.

The only thing is that it will really make me appreciate my new system all the more....

D

Im just not looking at a flat pannel screen just because its not worth putting on my Powermac given its specs... Than and im going to buy an iMac G5 to replace the Powermac on the desktop so gettting an LCD for this old machine just isnt worth my time.

the corner desks in TX and NM with too many wires

The iMac 17 moves around with me. It's definitely a portable computer with a good handle on it. There is a maglite on the TX desk for seeing even more wires underneath into the ups units.

cable management

I've posted the front of my current setup. Here's the back.

Very few wires touch the carpet (about 6, soon to be 4). Everything else is either coiled up on the table, twist-tied, taped up or suspended in the air.

this is my little 800mhz imac g4. it is the first mac that i have ever owned but the second that i have used. (my mother has a 14inch ibook, i couldnt help but mooch :D .) this was the first really noticeable mac that took on the pc world of the alabama school of math and science. this place is a pc gamers paradise and as soon as i pulled it out of the box the mac bashing started. "you cant play games!" they said. "its too slow" they said. "what can you do with 800 mhz?" they said. i remembered that i had bought a macworld the day before that had the ut2004 demo in it. i popped it in, loaded it and began to play. much to there surprise  . that was only the beginning. and now after having the mac at this school for a year and a half, i have convinced a few others to bring their macs from home and give them the love that they deserve. there are now 2 imac g3s, 1 imac g4, 2 ibook g3's, and an ibook g4. there will be an emac join our ranks after the new year so we continue to grow. the ipod is an hp version bu thats what you get when you get a gift from someone who doesnt know what they are buying. i had a g3 ipod before that one but it was stolen. i hope to have a powerbook by the time i go to college but only time will tell.

Set Up/Collection

The iMac 17" is the main machine, with 30gb iPod and G3 900 iBook hooked to a wireless setup. Upstairs my 'other' machine is a TAM upgraded to a G3 500 with 128 ram with 10/100 card, nestles amongst bits of my Mac collection.

Dont knock the HP iPod... It has a better warranty than Apples offering.

*HP's warranty. (Taken from HP's Agent Desktop (For technical support agents)

warranty policy

hardware parts and labor: 1 year from date of purchase

technical telephone assistance: 1 year from date of purchase

accessories/options included in the box with the product at time of purchase: 90 days

software media replacement: 90 days (on media shipped in box from factory)

*Apples warranty. (taken from apple.com/ipod)

Limited warranty and service Your iPod comes with single incident telephone support for the first 90 days and a one-year limited warranty. Purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod to extend your service and support to two full years. Only the AppleCare Protection Plan provides you with direct telephone support from Apple technical experts and the assurance that repairs will be handled by Apple-certified technicians using genuine Apple parts. For more information, visit Apple support or call 800-823-2775.

--But after 6 months of you owning the product you have to pay Apple a diagnostic fee ($40) to even look at it even though its under warranty unlesss you purchase the APP.

Another great example of Apple Computers crappy warrantys vs. industry standard.
