Like the Hed Kandi desktop :)

Thanks. I had to make it myself since I can't seem to find any online. Do you know where I can download some?

I have been listening to a lot of Hed Kandi's "Winter Chill" series lately...

Hadn't posted the change since I aquired AL-FAMOUS' former PowerBook :D

LOL. How many computers does one person *really* need.
Well, I only use the iMac & the PowerBook. The PC is there just in case, but is largely collecting dust. The PowerMac (Quicksilver) is waiting for when my dad has figured out somewhere to put it (almost made a switcher out of him!), and the Sun Sparc station I don't have a clue how to use, a Unix geek mate of mine is having the Ultra5 off me for 50 squid anytime now  :D

For you people who have both a desktop and laptop computer...... It is weird or annoying to have both and use both all the time?? How do you have it setup; Do you have the same stuff on both and sync them together? Or do you have a use for one and a use for the other? I am asking because I am thinking of getting a Mac Mini since I already have an external LCD and keyboard/mouse. I just don't want it to be a pain in my butt to have two and constantly copying stuff back and fourth. Just curious has to how you guys do it and if it is really worth it for me.

First post, got a new mac mini yesterday. So far so good not nearly as slow as I thought it would be with just the 256mb base ram. Here is the current setup.

As you can see im rocking the Grado SR60's also, heh. I think ill be picking up an LCD monitor sometime in the next week. The crt just looks way out of place.

I know that my setup is awesome for what I need. I have a 12" 1.2 GHz iBook G4, that I obviously use as a portable whenever I leave the house, but I also use it on my desk as a main computer. I also have a B&W G3 upgraded to a G4, and it is almost as fast as my iBook. I have an 80 GB hard drive in the Power Mac, so I use it for backup for the iBook, and I also use it as a main machine for most of my tasks as well. The really nice part is that I have a KVM switcher, so I can use both machines with one keyboard and mouse. It makes it really nice to do true multitasking with two separate computers, with much the same files on them. Of course, having the iBook as one of the machines, I just pick it up and go when I need to take my work with me.

Which screen is the Mini running?
When I switch to the Mac mini (using the VGA/USB switcher box), it drives the Sony 23" LCD at 1920 x 1200 resolution. When I snapped this picture, my Sony PC was driving both LCDs. I use a Matrix code screensaver on all of my PCs, so when they're all screensaving, it's very movie-like. :)

So which one is the Blonde, the brunette and the red head? ;)

I have a 12" 1.33 GHz PB that i use for school and stuff. I also keep all of my POP3 email on that laptop. I also have a PC that I use just incase i need to do something, for some reason, only on PC. Im also thinkin about adding a mac mini and a KVM switch. I have it all setup on an "L" shaped desk with a 17" oldschool CRT setup on a platform on 1 side, 27" Flatscreen TV on the corner of the desk, and keep the PowerBook on the left side. Im going to stack the Mac Mini ontop of the PC if I decide to go with it. Im also going to upgrade to a 19" Sony LCD that im getting from a buddy and a logitech bluetooth desktop setup ( w/ the added internal bluetooth and wireless package on the mini). Its pretty sweet cause i've got the PB running and the xbox runing on the 2 inputs on the TV. You can see a few pics on my.mac homepage. Sorry, they aren't a good depiction of my description. There are also a few pics of my mom's new iBook (i won one over for us).

If you guys have some input on the new mac mini, please let me know if its worth the 1.42GHz w/ 512 megs ram as a PC Desktop replacement.

Thank you for posting the picture edesignuk. I have been wondering from where you posted, so now I know. The blue wall color is very nice. ;)

1Ghz eMac with 640MB RAM, an internal 160GB HD, an external 250GB firewire HD, an external 40GB USB HD, iSight, run through a cable modem.

I also have a 500Mhz iBook, that is rarely plugged into anything but the wall.

hope you don't mind my asking, but what do you do to need 4 PCs and a mac?

isn't it obvious, it takes multiple computer/monitors to see the matrix.

btw, they are coming to get you. *knock* *knock*

Can one of you guys that own a 30" Apple display tell me what the deminsions are? The deminsions of the display frame not including the stand.

For you people who have both a desktop and laptop computer...... [...]
Right now, I have three computers:

Desktop PC:
- AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0 GHz)
- 512MB RAM
- 100GB HDD
- Sony DRU-500A DVD +/- R/W
- Sound/LAN/etc
- Windows XP SP2

Fileserver
- AMD Thunderbird (1.2 GHz)
- 512 MB RAM
- 100GB total HDD
- Generic 4x CD-R/W
- Sound/LAN/etc
- Fedora Core 2

See specs for my Powerbook.

To date, I've used the desktop as my primary and the Powerbook for school and mobile computing (programming and video editing, among other tasks). I back up my email, address book, MP3s, and most other files to the fileserver and burn incremental DVD backups every 10-15 days and store them in my desk at work (as off-site backup). I use Thunderbird on both the PC and the Powerbook, so keeping email data in sync is relatively simple.

I'm tired of this setup.

I'm working to sell both PCs to finance a new Mac mini, which will serve as my desktop PC. I leave it to do time-consuming tasks, such as downloading large files, and will keep ~ in sync on both machines. I'll use the mini to generate the backup DVDs and will continue to store them off-site. Having OS X on both my desktop and on my Powerbook will simplify keeping them in sync (a simple cron script should do the trick).

Additionally, I'll have ~.5TB in Firewire-attached storage available to either machine, thanks to a stack of hard drives in external enclosures (200GB, 2x 80GB, 2x 40GB, and 100GB)

I'll use the mini for things like .torrent downloads and to serve as a development webserver. Things that my Powerbook *could* handle, but would be better served by a dedicated "always-on" machine (charging my iPod, etc).

The only thing I haven't really figured out is how to keep iTunes libraries in sync AND have iTunes autotmatically update if files are manually added to the "iTunes Music" folder, but that's my next task. Maybe an AppleScript will do the trick.

Sony 3.4 GHz PC: Main PC, used for web surfing, Flash design, Media Center server (all my music resides here). Connected to home theatre system.

Sony 3.2 GHz PC: Backup PC (used to be main PC). Not used much, but I am thinking of converting into a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange and web hosting, so I can maybe stop paying someone else to handle my e-mail and web services.

Sony 2.2 GHz notebook: Main notebook. My e-mail and personal web site (and other sites I'm developing) live here. I carry this with me so all my mail, etc. is available in one location.

Sony 850 MHz notebook: Backup notebook, although the main reason I keep it is because it is also a work of art (click here to see it). The HD on this notebook is continually reporting SMART errors, but I'm waiting to see if the HD actually fails.

Mac mini: Because I'm curious. :)
