Let's see...
My internal 160GB (149.1GB) drive has 103GB available, the 400GB (379.8) drive has 86.7GB available, the 1TB (931.5GB) drive has 755.3GB available, the 120GB (111.8GB) drive has 111.6GB available and the 160GB (152.7GB) drive has 69.6GB available. (The last two FW drives aren't in the picture.)

So that makes 1840GB (1724.9GB) total space, with 598.7GB of it filled and 1126.2GB available.

As I finish up editing and DVD projects more space opens up, but I'm about to online 7 hours of HDV footage from 35 hours of raw footage, save an HD master and create a dual-layer DVD (writing to DLT tapes), so I'll need all the space I have for that.

Wow.

Nice setup and you seem to need a lot of space, what is it just HD video or

I've changed my setup recently (my previous setups are posted in this thread).

That's a 1TB Lacie Bigger Disk Extreme in back of the 23" and 17" LCDs, and a Wiebetech 400GB FW RAID box on top of the DP Power Mac G5.

Can you tell me about your LaCie 1TB drive? I bought one a week or two ago and I took it straight back because after about 30mins or so it would make a constant and very annoying noise. They swapped it for a brand new one and it does eactly the same thing. The noise is waaaaaaaay too much for me.

How noisy is your drive?

!!!

woah! this thread is huge!!!

... took me all day to get through it. :D

too many nice setups to respond to; thanks goes out to all who posted. :)

here's my current one (will only last a couple more months):

*sorry, it's a bit blurry ... the dual 2.5 G5 is obscured and my iPod photo is missing ;)

There's no such thing as too much hard drive space. I'll get more when I can afford it. :)

Yes, most of it goes to video capture scratch and render files. I'll use DVCProHD720p30 to online much of the material from my current project because it's lectures, but I'm planning to use 8 or 10 bit uncompressed HD to online the rest, and that takes about 320GB/hour.

Mine is unbearably noisy too. I need to call the shop I bought it from (dell.com) to get an advance replacement. Maybe if I go through three of them they'll finally take a return, or an exchange for two 500GB Big Disks. For the money I'd rather get a SATA PCI-X card and external SATA enclosures, but back when I bought the 1TB drive there weren't as many choices.

Here's my new iBook with white creatures that I've been waiting for since xmas!!!

The one on the far left looks like a newer cinema display, and the one on the right looks like one of the older cinema displays, the white ones.

:::Slaps head far too hard:::

All this pirate chat's made my head all fuzzy-like. I completely forgot about the original cinema displays. Still, they look a little too square in the pictures but I think that's just the quality of the photo.

Apple have white LCDs? That's a bit cool.
They're no longer in production ... it's been a while since they've been discontinued, but a lot of stores still have stock of them.

oh.. it was the pirate talk. :) This site is generally anti-piracy though, but I suppose it's all about preferring to be a pirate over joining the navy.

Thanks Rod Rod. Since you've got both, which one do you think is better value? The Formac or the Apple?
You're welcome, Matey (oops I mean mad jew). I don't own the Formac, but I like my 17" Apple display . . . although I'd sell it for the first $375 I get.

What do you think?

I like my 23" a lot... I'd like to get a current 23" though, because it's way more space efficient. However, having two displays with floating frames next to eachother looks nice. I'd probably sell my 23" for $1150 though because of rent. :)

As far as brightness and other specs, this thing is plenty bright at its highest setting. I have it set at less than 50% brightness all the time. I noticed some ghosting when I first started using this thing, but that's because I had been using a good CRT before (a 21" IBM P260). CRTs have advantages over LCDs, but LCDs are far easier on the eyes for extended use.

New Setup

Finally got around to painting the office and changing the setup to suit my needs better. You don't get a great shot of the Mac here, and my PowerBook is not in the shot, but you get the idea.

Opposite side of the room houses my AirPort Express, also one in the living room connected to the stereo.
