RIZR? Nice.. I was either going for that or the LG VX8700 if they didn't have the enV. :)

Themusic player problem is on the enV, too. :(

My advice.. don't buy any moto product w/o the motolinux gui... and even then... don't buy any moto product ;)

I'd say go with the LG, they know what they're doing.

Are you with T-Mobile? I'm not sure if the RIZR can be purchased with other providers. You can buy it unlocked but I think it can only be used with GSM.

I really like the phone though and the camera and flash are pretty good for a phone! The video feature is really nice too, coming from a RAZR. You can take "large" (352x288) video on best quality for as long as you have the memory for (over 20 minutes with the included microSD card). My RAZR stopped after 15 seconds. :D

Ahhah! That wouldn't have gotten far. I just thought it around if they didn't have the enV (which they did)

@appleintelrock - Yes, all my LG phones have been a positive experience. :)

Always hated Motorola, but I've been proven wrong before. Their OS is not the prettiest, but it's definitely stable and very very hackable. Loving the ability to customize this phone to the max. :)

Nice looking phone, but its STILL just a phone. Its hackable - but doing so doesn't make it stable; less so actually. The reason why its so hackable is because its so limited for basic functions. btw, its NOT an OS, its a platform. Motorola's JUIX is an OS, you're KRZR ( Razr/RIZR incl.) is a platform.

Here's an example of Motorola limitations. of you're platform.
Got it 2 days ago. :) Very, very nice phone. Only complain so far is that you can't listen to music and do anything else... You have to stay in the Music Player app.

Motorola_Rizr-Crave.jpg

^ See?! Their other platform, Synergy is a little less limiting. Curious, how many java apps can you run at a time, stably?! ;) Personally with my K790 & 71mb free RAM, I can run at Least 4 plus the Audio Player similtaneously :D

@ psycoswimmer,

If you really wanted a slider with music playback & background playability why not wait, within 30days, for the SE W580 (Grey, white or black)? It ships with 1GB M2 card :D

Oh well everyone has their own preference, which is fine. I'm just pointing out other options.

PIC #1 = SE S500 Mysterious Green - same platform as the W580 (sans dedicated walkman button & featured Walkman audio interface GUI). Its got a VERY Cool Flash theme & Side lights, very cool. Google it.

PIC#2/3/4 - W580 in Black, the #4 pic is the Walkman GUI I mentioned, although its a pic of the W880 slim 3G phone for Europe, this W580 is quite the same in this regard.

Later summer I'm upgrading to the W580 - I love the walkman interface. THen I'm going to get the Wireless A2DP headphones DS980 along with the Music Watch. WHen I get my beater car i'll connect my phone to the stereo, or at home to the stereo there. I can STILL goto the fridge get something to drink, prepare Dinner, and use the watch to start playing music! :apple: , Then an incoming call happens I can reject or answer it - without music interruption UNTIL I accept the call. It'll also notify me of an incoming text & whom its from (if in my phonebook / or just the cell # if not). James Bond neva had it so good.

Cheers everyone.

Mbw-150

SE's new BT enabled watch - collaborated with Fossil.

In Music & Classic guise. Also attached is the BT A2DP Headset, and just 1 or 4 Speaker system for the SE Walkman phone line. However, I can still use my K790 along with it.

Lastly a phone I'm considering upgrading to in December if the W580 ends up being too expensive after its first 2 mths of debut. Yeah man, 5MP with Auto Focus, BEST Shot, QVGA video recording (FINALLY SE  ), and video blogging to blogger. D-Pad is a bit avante gaurde though.

Cheers everyone.

Yeah, I was using the term OS rather liberally. By OS I meant whatever bundle of functional device. I know JUIX is coming soon, and I should have waited for that. But last weekend I left my phone at another city, I needed a decent phone, and the K1 is the only one that appealed to me. There's the K790a too, but I'm getting bored with that particular style of SE. I've used the T39m, T616, K750i, W810i, and played with the P9 series. So I know all the ins/outs of SE. Gotta love the Ooooh and Aaah when pairing it with Salling Clicker for presentations or movie nights with my laptop.

I can't believe they're not releasing the V9 with JUIX. I mean, the non-3G device (V8) is getting it, why not their flagship??
Oh, and I always have, and always will be an SE fan. heheh. I hated Motorola for the longest time because of their limitations, like you said, and lack of 'control' given to the user. But this JUIX thing looks interesting, so I'm gonna give them another try. As for the KRZR, well that's just me finally succumbing to their damn shiny lickable designs. ;)

Question for Canadians:

What SE phones is Rogers coming out with soon? I'm moving to Canada around end of August and I need to sign up for a plan there, get a new phone...

Really the only decent SE phone they have is the W810...

w810-img_4302.jpg

... which will still cost me 100 bucks even with a contract, and really isn't much of a step up from my W550i. It's such a tiny upgrade, in fact, that I've been considering getting a new SE phone here, and then just using it in Canada. Then again, that would cost me a few extra hundred dollars. :(

Any idea when some nice SE phones are coming to Canada? Preferably that beautiful W580.

With the exception of looks, may I ask why you purchased an LG Prada?

Apart from the form factor I was drawn in by the UI. It's really nice and responsive and I fancied the touch screen interface. It does have it's limitations. The major one being that if you want to use it in bright sunlight then forget it as it's hopeless :) On the whole though I love it.

Bright sunlight?

Any bloody sunlight! Good job we're in the UK really.

I also don't like the 4-5 button presses needed just to send a message.

Yeah that is a pain isn't it! Plus the fact that you can only have the default message tones for incoming SMS's. That bugs me.

LOL ! Their shiny lickable designs ;) - indeed. The K1m does look nice I'll give it that. As to why no JUIX on the premeir Razr 2 I have NO clue but it doesn't surprise me. Motorola is ALL over the place with platform & OS on multiple products, and they wonder why the hottest selling phone design for almost 2 yrs made NO money the past qtr??

JUIX, MS OS, UIQ3.1 - very interesting implementation indeed, etc.

JUIX is a LONG TIME in the making, nothing new at all really. if you look at the seriously OLD - say 6yrs ago - Motorola Accompli A009 (I think) you'll see its origins in OS design there & layout. The A780 as well was JUIX - just Linux & Java. It has potential and I'm surprise all this analyst talk of Linux becoming the #1 OS on a smartphone in 2yrs - NON of them looked at Motorola's JUIX. hmm.

K790a is a love hate sort of design which I know will get old on me, personally in 3mths.

K790a is MORE than decent there my friend, read up on specs and challenge the phone for a few minutes, you'll see.

To answer your question ... the W580 is coming supposedly in 3mths or less, most likely in 1.5mths. The W610 may also show up as well - direct replacement for the W810. If you cannot wait go for the W810 you will NOT be dissapointed. Just unbrand it = MP3 ringtones at your leisure, and flash themes.;)

If you want style, slim & a 3.2MP cam with AutoFocus, then wait 30more days and pony up for a T650i.

NOTE: You're in Canada and any strong structural - metal frame - building will reduce cell signals substantially if you DON"T have 850mhz band reception on the phone you're choosing. Keep this in mind, because it will affect you one day. We use BOTH 850/1900mhz across the nation for BOTH Rogers & Fido.

Cheers everyone.

I just purchased the SE S500i and I LOVE IT. Great upgrade from my POS 3 yr old MOTO V555, a tank but really useless except for calling. I love the themes from SE in the phone, especially the everchanging, it really adds to the user experience and looks so nice in person especially at night. The phone is a little creaky though and I've been reading that the keypad is weak and cracks though, I hope and pray that mine does not! or at least that I will be able to replace it somehow if it does b/c doesn't look like its covered under the warranty :(. Actually I am looking to replace my keys back in the states b/c I'm picky and would like a traditional western keypad w/o the extra characters, so no big deal for me, except maybe 50 dollars.

EDIT
Cleanup, I'll post some nice day pictures soon, just wanted to show off the nice lighting effects first. Any particular screens/features you would like to see? otherwise I'll just post some standard shots.

Sony w880i. A great little phone and better than my ipod 5.5G at the gym, thanks to the click buttons for going through music instead of scroll wheel, i always overshoot with the wheel when doing anything sporting.

quite hard to text at first, but now its as easy as any other phone.

Noice!

EdesignUK & Coops > bastards getting me to think about a Black W880i.

how do you both find the reception in sublevel garages or multilevel parking lots, or in elevators with mirrors surrounding all walls.
