...you're better off going for the E61i - size is the killer on this.
Guess what... I caved yesterday...

Went out and got me - exactly - the Nokia E61i

e61i.jpg

As I was saying to my girlfriend: This might actually turn out to be the coolest gadget I've ever had...

It found and connected to my WPA protected WiFi network without any problem, and I even tried a bit of surfing last night... was a bit sceptical since it only has 320 x 240 resolution on the 2.8" screen, but it was surprisingly usable... though I think I'll stick to WAP pages when I can, especially when I'm only on 3G (or even worse: Edge :D).

Now if I only could get MobyExplorer (or another s/ftp-client with text editor capabilities) to work with the login our own ftp-server (and not just the anonymous login at ftp.sunet.se) I'd be a very happy puppy... ;)

And with a 12 month contract, I'm in line for the 3G iPhone next Christmas, if Panic (or someone else) makes a nice Coda'esque sftp-client/text editor for the iPhone in the mean time.

Nice choice! I had the "old" E61 until a few months ago. Sadly the speaker went south on me (everybody sounded like a robot). I was very pleased with the phone. The build quality is great and the keyboard is very good use. The only downside (not really a problem, but still) is the size of it. For PDA use its fine but as a phone I got a lot of weird looks holding it up to my head

I replaced it with a Sony Ericsson P1i which, in my opinion, is a slighty better phone overall.

ok i got the N81 today as a replacement for my nokia 6500 classic after i went through 3 of the classics in a month and now ihad to pay 130 just to get the upgrade to the N81 but im happy now,

here is the pic

Nice Choices.

Nice choices all.

Keep an I out for CES cellphone announcements - as future upgrades WILL be immenent.

ie.

Nokia E71 (its rumored E61i upgrade) : improvements ... 3.2MP camera, slightly slimmer.

Motorola Z10 - upgrade to that Kick-Slide Z8.

Currently I now rock the Motorola Q9h (but the AT&T version), which I cannot stand atm. No WiFi. I wanted the Rogers version as I believe my Q9h may NOT have GPS built In.

Still nice choices everyone.
@Mitthrawnuruodo; check out HoFo S60 space or even Symbian-freaks.com for LOTS of information that MAY help you get what you need for your E61i.

Samsung Blackjack, hacked to Windows Mobile 6 since ATT is deciding to just dick around with the upgrade.

The quality of either the phone or ATTs network is questionable. Dropped calls, slow as hell data.

I owned a Samsung Sync before this, and it seemed to work a wee bit better. I upgraded within my first month to this due to texting/IM was a pain in the rear without a keyboard. I hear ATTs network is poo, and I hear Samsungs GSM is junk. Dunno.

I wish the letters were spaced out a bit more, because I have fat fingers. I also hate the interference with PC speakers and such, but I hear thats all GSM phones. Meh.

I might make my next phone an iPhone, way down the road. But it'd have to be at least 16GB, and allow me to make my own ringtones without purchasing them, since iTunes doesnt carry the music I would like to make ringtones out of.

Thanks... both sites look awful, but useful... ;)

I still don't get MobyExplorer to connect to our own server, but putty would, so I'm kind of helped... :)

Glad at least some solution was found by my pointing in a direction. Yes those sites all jocking for "who's got the latest information or scoop " doesn't help in design. However to Apoc's credit symbian-freak is done ALL by himself even remotely on his N93 or N95 when out of country on announcements or exclusives. E71 rumor is nice.

Well I got my AT&T working on my PC and on Rogers Data (MMS still alludes me to death). I'm still digging for a reg-hack to enable a "possible" internal WiFi.

But entering appointments, trying to create new playlists (because of the horrible AT&T ROM) is driving me UP the WALL. Everything I was supposed to gain - although painful - above a Curve seems so minimal now. My old 8100 was superb for data input (work hours, notes - 4 days I STILL cannot enter a NOTE even with MS Mobile Office 6 installed on top of Docs2Go, Spreadsheets) is so arcane ... it doesn't even SEEM like Windows for cheaps sake! I'm still going to give it a full 30 days chance though.

If ANYONE has a WiFi enabled WM6 Professional HTC device ... can you PLEASE post your default Registry settings in the following:

(BTW, I'm using PHM Editor )

HKEY_Classes_ROOT > WiFi > CLSID (values): Default: Valuedata: {EDF83936-F42FA-43e2-A278-DB67EF7E90B8 (value type REG_SZ)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > WiFi >
EapolParam1 >
EapFlags (value)> Value data: 0 (value type: REG_DWORD)
EapType (value)> Value data: 25 (value type: REG_DWORD)
EapolParam2
EapFlags (value)> Value data: 0 (value type: REG_DWORD)
EapType (value)> Value data: 13 (value type: REG_DWORD)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > ControlPanel > WiFi
Timeout (value) > Value data: 0 (value type: REG_DWORD)

NOTE; Under the following I ALSO have these listings:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Comm >
WiFi > Comm > ScanInterval (value)> Value data: 60 (decimal) (type:
REG_DWORD)
also (amongst: AutoCFG, AutoInterval, DefaultGateway, EnableDHCP, Subnetmask, and UseZeroBroadcast, I have the following)
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Comm >)
RNDISFN1 > Parms > TcpIP > IpAddress > Value Name: IpAddress > Value
data: 169.254.2.46 (value type: REG_SZ)

So what should I edit IF IN FACT this Q9h has WiFi?

Here's my new device!

(and the rbk from my wi-fi enabled wing ;-) )

Oh I am wanting to know some things. I want to move my MyFaves today plugin at the bottom of my today screen but T-mo locks it so I can't move it up or down. Is there a registery edit that would allow me to move it down? Thanks!

Now THAT is close to Alicia ;)

Got that sexy beast for the Wife (Rogers Wireless) just 4 days ago.
She LOVES it.

PS Man women have expensive taste. This thing doesn't even allow themes to be used.

I'm considering the just announced SE W790i as a backup, hiking, bike-riding phone.

haha, yea, the phone is just pure eye candy, nothing really special about it other than that. I picked it up this past summer while in europe

Thats EXACTLY what I've been thinking ALL day long. SO I went back to my OL' Faithful the SE K790a ... thanking the angels that I haven't sold it. SE W760i (sry W790i was a typo) will most likely be in my repertoire late summer.

Right now I'm on the hunt to go BACK to BlackBerry. I'm just praying more consumer applications that allow backing up information to the MicroSD card, and less focus for web connection/services to use apps is needed. Keeping an eye out for the 8120 or 8320 in grey now.

I don't like this steady state that in order to enjoy a smartphone & utilize its abilities for rich/powerful applications a user must have a internet connection to use these applications.

@7on - thanks for your efforts ... but I cannot just import your backup of registry settings > your's is a WM6 Pro device (touchscreen) and my Q9h is a WM6 Smartphone device (non-touchscreen). Also I cannot read that file & determine whats in there .... I was looking as a direct comparison of specific registry listings. I'm glad you tried to help, and its appreciated. However I'm getting nowhere, not your fault. I just fell for the eye candy shell. First time for everything I guess.

Oh sorry :( I thought there would be a reader out there.

and another thing I noticed, Opera Mobile doesn't like MR's picture threads. Oops. I'm gonna guess it's the installing on main memory with only 2mb of cache.

Oh and I got the MyFaves on the Today screen to be able to move around. I changed the Type from 5 to 4 in the HLM/Software/Microsoft/Today/Items/MyFaves
