I am laughing so hard! Read the entire thread, then realized you were messing with us. Nice! Or everyone is playing along?

Man I use to love going to these calls. We would spend hours talking about what could have been done to prevent it. I would rather have debt than have the damage a fire can do. Old homes especially, they are just tinder boxes for fires. If you are not joking with us on the boards, call an electrician. He will be your best friend.

electritions cost money.....a thing made obvious i dont have..

I hope you have paid up your home insurance. You're not talking about low voltages where you're going to simply burn up a single device if you plug something in wrong.

Is this for real? What ever you do, rubber up and don't complete a circuit that passes through your heart. Sometimes working one handed can save your life in unfamiliar high voltage work. You'll still get shocked on accident, possibly to death, but you'll have a slightly less high of a chance of the current stopping your heart.

If you have a helper, arm them with a non conductive stick to push you away from the electrocution point as you will be stuck and unable to move.

Or, you could just hire someone with training. Perhaps a school could do a field trip to help you out.

I know enough about electricity to know the pull the main fuses before doing anything. This house was sold as-is. It wasn't even up to code in 96.

I don't think you know a damn thing about electricity. The very least on how to respect it.

And how can a house legally be sold "as is".

Between this and all the jerry rigging you've done to your Daewoo, it's amazing you haven't managed to hurt yourself or someone else yet.
He might be good at hiding the police reports. :D

Haven't had the chance to use this in a while.

I haven't done any "jerryrigging" of my Daewoo.

What police reports? The only police report you'll find on my Daewoo is the vandilism report when someone shattered it's ribs in 2010

this it the temperary solution to power atlest 1/4 the garage.....

Outlet... Brown cord powers lights, green one powers the rest.

This is the junction box I tapped into for the lights. I removed the line coming in from the breaker box and attached this power cord (brown) in it's place.

Showing half the lights working like normal (Light switch and all).

Garage door opener (left) and chest freeze (right) being powed by the other green cord.

Holy **** snacks, I don't even know where to begin.

You're way better off calling a certified electrician and ponying up some cash to fix it than possibly burn down your house or seriously injuring yourself.

wow....... the way you guys react is rather priceless. I have used extension cords all my life, My weed eater is electric, my Drill is electric (not battery) the leaf blower, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, ALL requires extension cords to use them, Even my snow blower has a electric start AND came with a extension cord. For a cord to be a fire hazard it has to get hot, A hot cord means alot of current draw this cord never even gets warm. My mom's electric fry pan takes up more juice than everything in the garage combined.

Extension cords are meant for tools, a long as you get the proper rated amperage. They are not meant to power a house. There is a reason we have such things as building codes.

Matt, in all seriousness this comment is almost as stupid as the electrical work you've done here. Clearly you need to read up on your physics- especially kinetics, electricity, and electromagnetism. To name a few recent examples..
1) Kinetics - just look at your Daewoo- driving on a seized brake caliper for 3 years, only wanting to replace 1 front brake, driving with no brakes, etc
2) Electricity - this thread + your brilliant idea of grounding computer components TO THE PROCESSOR AND
3) Considering mounting an additional (mechanical) hard drive in your Power Mac with magnets.

I believe the way you do one thing is how you do everything. You seem to jerry-rig things and be completely ignorant of any obvious danger or repeated warnings. The fact you haven't caused death or signifiant injury to yourself or others (that we know of) is nothing short of miraculous.

Its a Garage, NOT a house, the garage is no bigger tthan a normal sized living room. This is a TEMPERARY solution to power just a SMALL part of the garage that is nessessary to be powered until i can get some wire and a breaker box and run a new one. On a legal standpoint its prefectly fine to use a extension cord up to 90 days. and as stated the current the garage is drawing is smaller than that of a Toaster.

Why replace two front brakes? the other side is fine and replacing it is just added money. The pads on the seized caliper surprisingly still have plenty of pad materal left.

And again the car wasnt WITHOUT brakes! There was still enough fluid in the lines to stop the car.

Grounding a computer fan to the case is NOT even related to this thread. And had nothing to do with the buzzing in the speakers well before or well after the fact.

I have grounded fans to computer cases for YEARS with no side effects and considering this house isnt EVEN grounded (there was no 3 bladed plugs in 1949/1950) the grounding plug on computers do nothing. the computer Gets grounded soley by the nuteral side of the power coming in.

EDIT: Infact. MOST OF YOUR POST isnt even on-topic to the thread
EDIT 2: The garage is getting its power from a 30A circuit.

Well, if I were him, I'd start by making sure I paid my last homeowners insurance bill and memorized the new emergency number ;)
Don't own the home, It's in my grandpa's name and he has insurance on it though not homeowners but renters (since he's not living in it) basically the same thing except it dont cover personal property. Not like we have anything worth value except a HDTV

You have it completely backwards. Renters covers personal property. Homeowners covers personal property + the house.

Renters insurance is for if you are renting a home. They'll cover your stuff in the event of a catastrophe. The landlord who owns the home would still have homeowners to cover the building itself.
