These are data for apps - as in they track the download #s for drafting messaging data?

iMessage is in every iDevice and is not downloaded, hence they usage can only be interpreted as iDevices marketshare.

These guys seem to be making a forecast for the UK only and I truly anticipate the number be higher on average in the EU

You might want to rethink on how you interpret data before lol'ing.

Most iDevice users are using whatsapp, telegram, tiktok, instagram AND iMessage, where I mostly use Whatsapp for work and iMessage for my social circle.

That's exaclty what i said. Most people in Europe use something other than iMessage. So switching to Android won't be a problem for them. Young people use Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok in their social circle. Absolutely no mention of iMessage.

UK: WhatsApp ranked 1st and Messenger by 3rd among most-used social media platforms

WhatsApp is the most-used social media platform in the UK with 74.8 percent of internet users aged 16 to 64. Facebook Messenger comes in third with 58.5 percent before Instagram and Twitter. Apple’s iMessage has a solid user base with 35.4 percent internet usage.
In 2022, WhatsApp is still the dominating messaging app in Germany, with 87 percent of all instant messenger users being on the app regularly. Messenger by Meta is used by a third of all users, and Telegram is ranking third with 15 percent of regular usage. As an honorable mention, eight percent of Germans are on iMessage regularly.
8% that's a lot!

Unlike many other European countries, France’s most-used messaging app is not WhatsApp, but the Messenger by Meta. 59.5 percent of internet users aged 16 to 64 use the messenger from Meta, whereas only 55.7 percent use WhatsApp. The third most popular messaging service is iMessage (21.7 percent).
France is a little better, but still in the minority.

And this is all the empiric data i could bother to find. Subjective experience shows me that most people here use Whatsapp, they don't bother with iMessage because of a simple fact: Android presence is very strong in Europe, and when you're sending a message, you want it to go through and not be bothered by green/blue bubbles.

But this is off-topic. We can chat in private messages if you want.

But in terms of what you actually pay, what actually matters to the consumer...

UK price. £849
= $978

US price. $829 + 5% average sales tax
= $870

So in the UK you'd pay 12% more.

And for the higher spec'd Pro models that figure will be a lot higher.
You can compare it that way, but it's not a fair comparison. The VAT that folks in the UK pay go towards services managed by the government. In the US, the state and local sales taxes go towards those localities and generally, they do not provide for as many services as other countries that pay a 10-20% VAT/GST. It's an Apples to Oranges comparison.

Even my method of comparing the prices is a bit flawed because it can't factor in the cost of doing business in the various countries because all of the required tariffs, tax laws, and regulations are baked into the price. There's also different dynamics in play in regards to consumer preferences.

This thread (or at least my contribution to this thread) is more about the perceived greed on Apple's part and the perceived "favoritism" that Apple shows to US consumers. My take is that the prices, at least on the lower tier models between the US and UK/France/Germany aren't that far apart. On the costlier models, yes, there is a bigger difference.

The interesting one is Japan. What is it about the Japanese market that allows Apple to set the prices lower for both the mid and high end phones?

please do not think your experience applies to others. Your relatively small social circle does not warrant a pattern for a continent.

It's just true, iPhone diffusion in Europe was slower, so other messaging services ate a bigger market share before iMessage had the time to catch up. Also most teens have iPhone in the US, but in Europe most young use Android because it's much cheaper. There are a lot of iPhones now but very few use iMessage with other Apple users anyway. Do you live in Europe? I doubt it

305 CHF is a terrible trade in price for a 512GB 12 Pro.... i got like 420.- for my 12 Mini with 128GB.
You should get over 500.-

I sold to these guys. Was very easy and painless.

Thank you very much. Didn't knew that website. I just went in and I can sell it for 682 CHF.
That's the option I'm going to choose!

I do.

And though everyone has WhatsApp and other messaging services, but iMessage use is comparable to the other parts of the world.

The iMessage usage data is not measurable as 1) it's not a downloadable app 2) the message data is not publicly shared.

I do.

You are very incorrect. Not sure why you are continuing to spread this misinformation.

Prices should be the same worldwide period.
Then we should have the same currency and VAT/tax rate all over the world. Not to mention the same salary, the same everything. But that is starting to sound like utopia. Those trials never ended well. People are greedy in nature and always some find a way to benefit from others. Anyway, discussion goes to the wrong tracks here since we live in a world the way it is today.

Prices are pretty much equal around the world when you translate them to the USD for what Apple gets from selling the item.

Do you think Apple would decrease prices in Europe when USD drops later? LOL XD

Not until the next model comes out. Even then might not do that, but that is more doing with the thing giving signal of deflation.

Anyway, people here seem to think weak Euro and high inflation are temporary, I predict this is just a start. Soon people have here much bigger worry than iPhone price, like how to heat their homes during next winter (worst case it could cost even 2k EUR a month to heat your house if you have electric heating system and electric price goes to where it is predicted for the next winter). In most things we haven't see the change that is coming. Lack of energy (oil, gas, electric etc...) in Europe is not going to get solved very soon. Even is inflation would return to 0%, previous year inflation does not get washed away from the prices (which is not really causing the iPhone price discussed here but just mentioned if someone is not sure what inflation is).

My prediction is iphone 15 prices in Europe will be even higher, USD prices in USA will be raised a lot to match prices in Europe, Japan, etc.

They have no reason to rise USD prices for that reason you mentioned but inflation and lack of parts and such will cause manufacturing cost increase, so yeah likely USD price goes up too but the same relation as today between those locations will stay depending on currency rates then.

On the top of what everyone said about the obvious shame that Apple made, has anyone seen the trade-in offers? How does my 13 Pro 128 GB worth 570 Euro. It's almost the half of the price what I paid last year this time. Apart from the price increase, trade in values are also bit disappointing.

Exactly.

The US market is still the most import in terms of units sold so they probably didn't want to be too aggressive there. Competition in China is too big to risk losing customers.
So they are probably testing how far they can go in Europe and if it doesn't hurt sales (which it probably won't) then adjust prices in the US, too.

And by then paying 1299$ (?) for a 128 GB Pro Max doesn't feel that bad compared to 1599€ (?) in Europe.

If this will reveal itself to be true it'll be very very sad, from an anthropological point of view

Yes I saw the trade in value is only around 50% now. So people saying even buy a new iPhone every year costs the same as just let your existing phone lose value by time does not make sense.

Yes thats right. The trade-in value depreciates fast the first year, and then slower and slower. Its a lot like the value for used cars. The most expensive way to have a phone is to buy new every year. The last few years are the cheap years of ownership of a phone.
