No, like I said before, 10.12.6 is the first macOS release that have a display working with a RX 580.Can I run the RX580 on El Capitan ?
macOS METAL support has nothing to do with GPU driver support.Okay, was reading article metal was available for El Capitan. Sierra for this card is even better, thanks Alex. I will be able to run Pro Tools 10 on Sierra / with a Co-install of Pro Tools 12, (YAY)
Back in 2008, Apple sold two distinct 8800GT upgrade kit versions, one for Macs with 64bit EFI (MP3,1/4,1/5,1) and one for 32bit EFI, for MP1,1 and 2,1.Not to get off topic, but will the Apple MB560Z/A NVidia Geforce 8800 GT Video Card 512 MB 630-9192 work in a 2010 Mac Pro ?
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
From 10.6.4 to 10.13.6.One more thing, is the ATI 5870 supported on Sierra ?
The RX580 works in both Sierra and High Sierra.I need to run Pro Tools in 32bit mode, on Sierra, and newer Pro Tools 2020 on High sierra.
I forgot about the double connectors.
XFX cards are known to have issues.I also have some issues with both XFX and Sapphire 580X. I used 2 mini 6pin to 1 8pin wire, and both are giving me an error. I hope they're both not faulty.
I saw somewhere that 580X has a switch for overclocking. It was at default. And I know that 580X doesn't need any extra power either. Also, I use the same connecting wire for all 3 cards, and GTX1080 works smoothly. So it's definitely not the wire issue.
- Sapphire 580X. I get a bunch of weird dots or streak lines on the screen. And yes I inserted them properly...!
- XFX 580X. up to 2 4k monitors work fine but on my 3rd monitor, the screen goes all crazy. At least it was better than Sapphire one but compared to my GTX1080 it's not smooth and is inferior in gaming.

Alex, does Sierra have to be formatted APFS for the RX580 be recognized ?
Also can I run the ATI 5870 & RX 580 in tandem (both video cars installed), that way I can switch between two programs ?
No, just change the connections on the output of the PowerLink, you can use the same cables from the AUX BOOST connectors of the backplane to the PowerLink.I'm going to be upgrading my r9-280x to a rx 580. I have a powerlink for my r9 280x. For the RX 580, I'll need a dual mini 6 pin to 8 pin. If I want to use the powerlink should I also be using the dual sata to 6 pin?

You only need more power if you get an overclocked RX 580 like Sapphire Nitro+.
Backplane two miniPCIe 6-pin -> two miniPCIe 6-pin to 6-pin cables -> eVGA PowerLink input -> 8-pin eVGA PowerLink output -> Sapphire Pulse.
While the very good dual mini PCIe 6-pin to 8-pin cables have all the connections, some cables don't and then 12 > 8. Besides that, even the excellent dual mini PCIe 6-pin to 8-pin cables are too stiff on the 8-pin connector, where the two wires are connected to just one pin and this causes problems. Thanks! I think I know the answer but why not the following:
Backplane two miniPCIe 6-pin -> two miniPCIe 6pin to single 8 pin-> eVGA PowerLink input -> 8-pin eVGA PowerLink output -> Sapphire Pulse.
