i believe you have to "activate using iTunes" for the JB to work! I had the no reception/internet deal earlier, BUT it was jailbroken. I restored back to original, and it said my phone was activated. SO you DO infact activate through iTunes. That is probably why there are some problems.

Were you talking to me/us? Ive already restored to my old one, and synced, why would I need to activate it? its seems like it already is.

iclarified also has step by step instructions on pwnage 3.0 (which is not much diff than before) http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4254

For the 16xx error, found this on the dev-team blog comments:

Props go out to EriCKY for this 16xx fix:

1. download QuickPwn RC3
2. download iphone 2.0.2 ipsw
3. Run quickpwn rc3 and do everything it says untul your iphone has a white screen.
4. unplug your iphone, turn off quickpwn and turn on itunes.
5. shift click restore in itunes and pick the 3.0 jailbroken firmware :3

many are reporting success with this, I am getting ready to try it (once my wife is off the PC)

My god, I think I could kiss you! It's got past the stuck point and seems to be loading the firmware. Fingers crossed!

Good and Bad of 3.0 IN PICTURES!

Custom theme (don't ask for it cause too much of it comes from other themes which I do not have permission to distribute...carried over from 2.2 so i dont have links)

Installed via Cydia and working: WinterBoard/MobileSubstrate/OpenSSH/Terminal/Cycorder/Installous/StatusNotifier/xGPS/gpSPhone/

Misc: ATT 5.0 carrier bundle to enable tethering (visual voicemail works fine with tethering, but trying to activate mms WITH tethering disables tethering... and vice versa..so i stick with tethering + visual voicemail which works flawlessly for me now.

The BAD - Bugs on 3.0:

iTunes random black marks, wtf?:

photo4hne.jpg

Info boxes in contacts are misaligned:

photo7s.jpg

Phone no longer recognizes phone numbers by name without an area code (i.e., if you type in a number of a friend in your area without an area code, phone doesn't realize that it's a number already in your address book; wasn't like this in prior OS's):

With area code:

Without area code:

That last bug is really annoying. It NEVER used to be like that...you could ALWAYS dial a phone number (at least a phone number within your area/area code) WITHOUT an area code and the phone would recognize if it was someone already in your address book. Now it doesn't...BUT, when you dial a number of someone in your address book without an area code, under your history it still shows up under that person's name. At least that's how it is with mine. Kinda confusing.

I'll take the good with the bad though...

YES IT WORKS!:D

Yup it works i did that yesterday

I had an iPhone 2G that had gone like this: 2.0 (Pwned) > 2.1 (stock) > 2.2 (stock) > 2.2.1 (stock) > 3.0 ß1~ß5 (stock) > 3.0GM (stock).

Used PwnageTool to build me an unlocking, activating, non cydia/icy IPSW and got 1604 when restoring from iTunes (got stuck at "Preparing iPhone").

I just restored to the stock 3.0 firmware, then in DFU I restored again to the Pwned 3.0. Working wonderfully :D

YouTube works! Push Notifications seem to work as well :)

If you get stuck on the DFU or Recovery screens when trying to jailbreak/unlock a 2g, it is only fixable by restoring in iTunes using the original stock 3.0 software and then using Pwnage again after this. Otherwise you will get into a loop of errors. As the original 3.0 software does not upgrade the firmware version on the 2g iPhone it is simply to jailbreak immediately after.

That call bug doesn't seem to be affecting me on 3.0 JB with iPhone 2G.

NO NETWORK 3G on 3.0

K so I have pwnage 3.0 and built a custom IPSW, iTunes installed it OK, phone restarts fine but it can't see a (cellular) network anymore.
I'm on an O2 sim, so no unlock necessary!

Wifi connects fine.

Help! Broken iPhone 3G

I take it you used pwnagetool in expert mode?
Make sure you unselect Activate the phone in general settings before u Build the custom Ipsw and it should solve your problem.

Mine seems to be working ok except for visual voicemail not working and I cant seem to find what packages I need to install from Cydia to be able to load my cracked apps. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

getting no reception now...

when you built your custom firmware did you choose the easy or expert? if you picked expert make sure activate phone is UNCHECKED or itunes will not activate your phone (if you use and official carrier like AT&T etc, if you don't leave it checked)

on the voicemail, you just need to log in to your voicemail, that happened to me too. sometimes I had to do it a couple times or turn my password on/off.

I jailbroke and installed a custom firmware no problem. Everything's working with the exception of the NES app off of cydia. What I did was restore my phone to factory settings prior to pwning. I also unchecked "activation" message as well as "allow update baseband" via expert mode in the pwnage tool. For some reason these are on as default. I also checked "No" when it asked if my phone had ever been pwned before. Once I built my custom firmware, I did another restore using that and viola, everything worked fine.

I am an ATT user so I have no need for unlock, just Jailbreaking. My phone is an iphone 3G. Hope this helps. Everything works great. Good luck to all.

PS. The weather app and stock apps werent updating at first but that was yesterday and apparently was a problem with the servers on Yahoo's end- Not with the iphone. They have since fixed the problem and my stock and weather apps work -no problem now.

yup I redid the jailbreak last night doing that, and everything is good now.

As an update, despite some hiccups last night, everything is great now on my 3G. OS seems to be at least as fast as 2.2, my "special" apps are working, and most of my JB programs are working. The only thing I miss is Intelliscreen.

Sorry, but everything you mentioned above works perfectly fine for me. The only thing different is that there is no Mobile Installation 3.0 right now...it's something new called AppSync 3.0 available on Cydia. This all sounds like YOU'RE doing something wrong (don't take that the wrong way!)

If it helps, i am on a PC running Windows Vista, and I used a custom 3.0 firmware that I posted in a thread here which had OpenSSH/SBSettings and Cydia installed (it didn't have ICY installed though, as I do not trust anything by RiPDev).

So far i've gotten my iPhone back to the same state as it was on JB'd 2.2.1 (but a lot faster of course, as i've installed only the necessities like SSH/SBSettings/Cycorder/Installous/Terminal/StatusNotifier and WinterBoard, along with enabling tethering through a custom .ipcc).

Well I am happy it is working for you. I didn't do anything different than I ever have, so I don't think I did anything "wrong". I have been JBing iPhone and iPod touch since 1.1.4 and have never experienced errors like I have so far.

Additional specific examples:

Themes look wierd. Odd spacing and different sized icons between the dock and the SB.
Winterboard priority doesn't seem to matter (I could never get the user wallpaper setting to work)
Terminal Crashes as soon as it starts to open
AptBackup didn't work.

I really don't understand why this stuff would work for others and not on my phone.

I am going to try to restore the custom IPSW again, but am not optimistic. Will report back.

Follow-up

So I installed the Vanilla 3.0 and then used redsn0w instead of pwnage tool on the Mac and everything seems fine?!?

I really don't understand why, but I may be giving it a shot on my phone (restoring my wife's right now). Seems like it shouldn't matter which version but I am feeling better about JBing 3.0 :)

I don't have push notifications on my 2G

seems to be missing from settings (supposedly should appear below carrier)!

I just noticed sms seems to be broken, when ever I try to send an sms it brings me back to the home page? ughh

I am thinking that AptBackup is the problem here. Restored a custom 3.0 to my phone and was working FINE until I tried to restore my Cydia apps with AptBackup.

Anyone know if AptBackup works with 3.0?

ok..I updated my phone and JB it w/ 3.0.

Here are a few of the problems Im seeing..to which I have no clue what to do.

when I go into settings..I dont have "notifications" on that list...like others do.

I dont have any of my games appearing anymore. I used to have them under categories.

I also dont have my installer icon, so Im not sure on changing things..such as themes...ect.

any help would be great...In the meantime, Im also going to do alittle searching.

hmm also add none of my calls will go through. all come back as call failed.

1. READ THE THREAD. The lack of a notification option has already been addressed.

2. For pretty much everything else, it's all due to the fact that you UPDATED instead of RESTORING to 3.0. When you do this and you have games/apps hidden via categories, they stay disappeared. Updating also breaks your past jailbreak, so Installer is gone.

3. You can use WinterBoard via Cydia to theme your phone.

Before anything else though, you need to do a full restore and a full re-jailbreak before you do anything else. You cannot just "update" a pre-jailbroken phone to a new firmware.

Notification setting only appears if you have installed and ran an app that does push notification.
