i am still waiting for an answetr because it is important. I have to unlock soon. My question is;

- I am scared that Winpwn will have a problem with my iPhone since it is only beta. And i want to just jailbreak-active with ziphone, than unlock with bootneuter in the installer. Will that mess with my phone(previous ones unlocked with Ziphone were messed up since their bootloaders were downgraded to 3.9). Or just active/jailbreak with Ziphone and unlock with bootneuter is reasonable? Which one do yıou think i should. I am not going to use Winpwn until it's full release, it has a chance to brick it forever. So, i am impatiantly waiting for your advices and guide.

Sincerly;

Just use winpwn, Lots of people have already used it with no problems. If you familiarise yourself with the process, its stable enough, and its very hard to get something wrong if you know what your doing.

Infact, its probably alot more stable than Ziphones current program - even in beta!

I used WinPwn and it did everything in a breeze of easiness. Sure it takes alot of time because the program is not quite finished yet, but it delivers everything safe.

You just have to download BootNeuter from iClarified source repository. And this version of BootNeuter already has the bootloader files in it. Just select your setting and you are good to go.

As far as 2.0 betas go I did say in the FAQ that you HAVE TO restore to custom 1.1.4 first then make the custom 2.0 with pwnage.

I have not tried updating to 2.0 beta so I don't know if the baseband gets updated to the beta baseband which is already unlocked or stays with the 1.1.4 baseband unlocked... I would be happy for someone to clarify that for me.

As far as upgrading to a possible 1.1.5 for example before 2.0 comes out (if another update is out before then)... BootNeuter ONLY unlocks the 1.1.4 baseband.

You would have to wait for an update to pwnagetool before you could upgrade to any other firmware including the final version of 2.0. Although the DevTeam have figured out how to easily unlock every new baseband so I would expect the pwnagetool update to be out quickly after any other Apple update!

Going back to Factory Settings

Are there any 'tricks' to go back to Factory 1.1.4 settings?

Or do you simply put the phone in recovery mode, restore to factory settings, then restore using a previous backup?

Thanks

If your unlocked then if you want factory condition so to speak then you have to turn all the BootNeuter options to off and unlock to off and flash your phone again.

That re-locks the phone. Then restore using iTunes.

DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACK UP!

restoring from backup will put old 3rd party application settings back on your phone and may cause issues that require a restore to fix - and if your taking it back to apple and use a back up then you will have left evidence that you hacked the phone. so always set the phone up as new!

Thanks spinstorm.

A few questions, though:

currently, my bootneuter settings are:
version 4.6
neuter on
fakeblank off
unlock on

so ill leave the version the same and turn the other 3 options off. and then flash. then ill restore using itunes.

but when i said restore from backup, i meant a backup that was made previous to using the 'pwn' program. (this way ill have all of my old settings, texts, email info, etc.)

when i 'pwned' the phone, i set it up as a new iphone...which means my old backups should still have 'genuine' factory settings and info, right?

thanks again.

this might be an odd question but.
i'm gonna get a 16 gb iphone next week on my vacantion to florida.
i want to pwn the device and gonna take my windows laptop with me.
now is it possible to only pwn it with winpwn ipwner and then flash a pre made custom firmware that i made on a mac here? just want to be safe then sorry for wacking a 500 dollar unit :)
made a 1.1.4 custom with neuter and all stuff in it. so it will be 100% working which the winpwn cannot do yet.

has anyone tried this?

never mind: found the awnser deeper in this thread.

when I pwn my iPhone to unlock it do I have to have the t-mobile sim in before I do the process or do I put it in after?
Or does it even matter at all?

If you turn those all to off (ie neuter off, unlock off and make sure your bootloader is the one that the phone was meant to come with) and then restore using iTunes then it will be as new.

If you use a back up from before your phone was jailbreaked then that would be fine but remmeber all your backups are overwritten when you sync the phone so be careful or you will have to restore again.

As for the can you "ipwner" using windows then restore using the custom firmware from your mac - the answer is yes you can.

As for the SIM card - I don't think it makes any difference but if I was you I would leave the SIM the phone came with in it until its successfully unlocked by BootNeuter so that you don't get any incorrect SIM messages during the process as that would be annoying!

So, is there any way for me to retain my notes, text messages, contact favorites, volume/wallpaper settings, Visual Voicemails, widgets/webapps saved to Home screen and their arrangements, etc.?

Also, I'm presuming that, if I do not activate my iPhone via PwnageTool, I can "reactivate" my phone with AT&T via iTunes? If so, can anyone give me a general idea of how that works? (I'm unlocking so I can use my phone in Israel this summer; See my post here for details of what I've done so far to get Hebrew support, Israeli carrier support, etc. on the phone)

Thanks!

Just use last backup then. I do it all the time and I always have to put back my 3rd part apps settings as they don't save. But that is my experience, it may be different for you.

Your phone ONLY has to be officially activated with iTunes once if your on an official contract so that the number is set up and visual voicemail is as well. After that first time the phone will automatically get the correct settings from the SIM card/ network and it doesn't matter if its activated using itunes or by pwnagetool.

So what I am saying is you don't need to activate it again - just click on activate on the custom firmware options so you can use any unlocked SIM and when you put your official SIM back in the settings will all come back for the network.

As far as putting notes, email etc back - it is not recommened on jailbreaked phones as it puts back 3rd party settings and this can cause conflicts on your phone that require a restore to fix. Its you choice if you decide to use the backup but should you find your phone not working as you expect then you know why that is and you know that the only way to fix it is to restore it and NOT use a back-up but set it up as new!

It says in Bootneuter that it can't communicate with the bootloader, and iTunes says the SIM card is PIN locked or something. what do i do???

EDIT and on the phone it says "Repair Needed: iPhone cannot make or receive calls." One thing - I did use an iBuilder.bundle in my IPSW... should I not have done so? I'm pretty sure I did everything else right...

Did you use another unlock method on it before?

I would suggest you make another basic custom firmware with nothing extra added and then restore using it again and see what happens.

You should make sure BSD subsystem is included as BootNeuter seems to need it with the pwnagetool 1.1 version.

Then let us know how you got on. It sounds to me like the baseband was not flashed correctly which is why it is giving the repair needed message. So make a new custom firmware and try again.

If that fails I suggest you restore to standard 1.1.4 and use iLiberty+ to unlock/jailbreak.

There does seem to be issues with ZiPhone unlocked phones which can cause problems!

I also suggest that should you not be able to sort out the issue you post on http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=146 for further help!

Ohhh the BSD subsystem thing would probably explain it! I deselected everything except the iBuilder .bundle...

I restored from an Apple IPSW to get back to the way things were, now I'm going to try again!

It worked, and I was able to successfully restore my old settings. Please feel free to include that in the guide at the beginning of the thread.

Going back to factory settings

Long story short, it worked...

It was strange though. The first time I clicked 'Restore,' I forgot to 'ctrl right click' and choose the older factory 1.1.4 firmware version. So it Restored with my Custom pwnd firmware, not exactly what I was trying to do.

Tried again and Selected the factory 1.1.4 settings. Error notice.

Tried again - worked this time.

But the strange this is that when it came time for me to 'Restore' to a previous backup, some of my backups were gone. The most recent 'Factory' backup was from February (though I sync multiple times/week).

I'm not sure how this happened. When I pwnd my phone for the first time a few weeks back, I set it up as a new phone. Then when I accidentally pwnd my phone again today, I again set it up as a new phone.

But when I finally got it back to 1.1.4, my original 'Custom pwnd' phone (from a few weeks ago) wasn't an option to restore from (only the brand new one made today was there). And the latest 'Factory settings' phone to restore from was from February...

No major harm done...just lost some text messages and, more importantly, some numbers I acquired since Feb.

Cheers.

Update Process?

There is no advantage to using it if your phone is already pwned and working.

All it does is add some downloads from installer and let you pick your own photo.

---

It seems the windows version is not going to be released "officially" as it still has bugs which apparently cannot be fixed.

It will be put out as a beta probably today - what that means exactly I don't know - if there are any developments I will update the thread!

Sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find the answer in the previous responses.

I purchased a new iPhone which had firmware 1.1.3. I then downloaded and updated the iPhone to 1.1.4 via iTunes and subsequently pwnaged the phone with the original 1.0 release following the great instructions.

The "fix" worked perfectly, the iphone was unlocked and it could even use the AT&T Edge network, slow as it is. (My iPhone is using a SIM from my AT&T phone with MediaNet enabled.)

I then downloaded Pwnage Version 1.1 and it is sitting on my Mac Book desktop. To update the iPhone with Pwnage 1.1 do I simply start the new version of Pwange with the iPhone attach?

Or do I first restore the iPhone to the original firmware 1.1.4, and then run Pwnage 1.1 to create a custom version of 1.1.4 and finally use iTunes to install the new custom version.

I just need an answer to these questions, and would appreciate and help or a pointer to a previous reaponse.

Thanks!

hey everybody,

I just finished the process using the mac version. this part went fine.
I bought my iphone in november (legal french 1.1.2 iphone with iphone contract).

I went from original 1.1.2 to 1.1.2 jailbroken to 1.1.3 jailbroken
and now to 1.1.4 jailbroken using the pwnage tool. Each time I switched versions, the applications I had installed with installer disappeared, but were still present in the "uninstall" list of the installer application. This time the same thing happened: applications are gone, but still present in the list.

usually, what I did was just uninstall them and install them again. that's what I did this time, as well. however, two applications just don't want to go:

- SummerBoard
- iPhysics Level Fixes

It says "Error - Main script execution failed!" when I try to uninstall these two applications. I checked the applications folder on the iphone: the .app files don't even exist anymore.

How can I get rid of the applications? I need to uninstall summerboard, so I can install it again for it to work on 1.1.4.

It sounds to me like you restored from backup and messed up the phone settings or updated having the same effect.

You should NEVER restore from a backup of a jailbreaked phone as it says clearly on the FAQ!

Your only option is to restore again using your custom firmware and set the phone up as new - not from a backup and you will then have to redownload everything but it will work

I didn't restore from a backup. What I did was:

I had 1.1.3 (jailbroken) and then updated to 1.1.4 using iTunes.
Then I downloaded the 1.1.4 file, loaded it into the Pwnage tool, pwned the phone and created a costum IPSW file of the 1.1.4 firmware. Then I used this costum firmware for a restore in iTunes.

Is there a way of getting rid of ALL the files, preferences etc. on the phone and having a clean install like "out of the box" ?

That makes no sense.

The settings are NOT saved unless you update and/or restore from back up.

When I say "restore from back-up" I mean when the phone is synced for the first time after being restored it asks you if you want to "restore your previous settings" or words to that effect - you should NOT use that.

Installer will only show the apps as installed if you used it to download them but it may not be able to remove them IF your old settings are there already and conflicting.

Unless of course you have added the apps to the custom firmware you made in which case the settings are all wrong or they would be removable and in which case you would have to restore again without those apps to a new custom firmware.

thanks for your help :]
the problem was that it did not ask me whether I wanted to restore from a backup or not, so I went into the iTunes preferences, deleted the iPhone backups, and restored it with the costum firmware again. it finally worked.
thanks again ;)
