@guru_ck: what did you actually do? You need to put the phone into restore mode to run the initial pwning process.

Did you do that? and did it run? did the pineapple logo appear?

My phone was running 1.1.4 stock firmware. I bought it on launch day, no idea what bootloader it had.

I downloaded the stock 1.1.4 from Apple's website, prepped it in iPwner, put my iPhone into recovery mode, clicked the iPwner button and saw all the lines going down my iPhones screen. Then I got the pop-up in iPwner that said click OK and your iPhone will reboot. Well my phone never rebooted. I've tried holding down the buttons on the phone and reattaching the USB cable but no go. Every now and then I will get a pop-up in iTunes that says the SIM is not valid so it seems like the phone is still interacting with my mac. I didn't see any logo at the end of the Pwning process.

If I hold down the Home button on my iPhone and connect the USB cable to my mac iTunes pops open and asks me to restore my iPod! What the heck? I selected the modified .ipsw file but iTunes said it failed to restore at the end. It thinks it's an iPod Touch!

Oh ****! That .ipsw that I downloaded from Apple's website is for the iPod Touch not the iPhone! Gawd damn whoever linked that in the iPhone forums! Ahhhhh.

How do I get the modified iphone ipsw file that I can prep in pwnage? I have downloaded one and it just becomes a folder on my desktop that is not recognized with a ipsw ext.

Ok I downloaded the correct .ipsw file for the iPhone. iTunes doesn't like it because it thinks my iPhone is an iPod so restoring that way won't work. I loaded it into iPwner and this is what I get:
2008-04-03 14:03:32 - Loaded .ipsw file from '/Users/chris/Data/iPhone/iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw'.

My iPhone is black... not sure what is going on.

Ok I downloaded the correct .ipsw file for the iPhone. iTunes doesn't like it because it thinks my iPhone is an iPod so restoring that way won't work. I loaded it into iPwner and this is what I get:

My iPhone is black... not sure what is going on.

iTunes gives me "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (5)."

Please help!

It sounds like you pwned your iPhone with the iPod firmware or something like that.

Did the pineapple logo come up? If it did then the pwn was successful and maybe the problem is with the firmware build.

I would recommend you head to the hackint0sh pwned forum and post there where members of the dev team may be able to help you.

If I was you I would restore back to 1.1.4 official apple firmware.

Then try rebuilding your iphone firmware again and trying it out.

Post all the details on hackint0sh: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=146

I have gotten through most of this process but it says I need to locate the bootloader files. Sorry, I am kinda a newb here. Can anyone help me out?

If IPSW Builder asks you for the bootloader images.

Download bootloaders.rar from the link onto your Desktop. Double click this to extract its contents.

Click the browse button for the bootloader 3.9 image and select BL-39.bin file from your Desktop.

Click the browse button for the bootloader 4.6 image and select BL-46.bin file from your Desktop.

Click OK button!

Yes! you can unlock it with this.

@guru_ck: If no logo ever appeared and the phone didn't reboot then it probably didnt pwn the phone properly.

I would try again with the iPhone firmware.

HOWEVER I AM NOT A DEV! and your problem is the first time someone has done it.

I strongly suggest you post on the hackint0sh forum - and perhaps if you know how mIRC works - join the iPhone Dev/iPhone chat room for advice.

I do not know the consequences of pwning your phone twice - maybe it will do nothing or maybe it will damage it - check on hackint0sh.

and everyone else! make sure you KNOW what your clicking on when you do this!

READ CAREFULLY!

The whole reason originally why I did not link any firmware in my post was because if you plug your phone into itunes and click on restore it will download the right firmware.

As long as you unplugged your phone when it starts downloading it obviously can't restore and won't damage your phone as it doesn't start restoring until the firmware is downloaded!

Right but you need to select the firmware file in the Pwnage tool. Where does iTunes store it when it downloads? That's the whole reason I downloaded it from the web and saved it to my "iPhone" folder.

Anyway my iPhone is back and running, I always manage to screw it up really badly but it's a fighter and comes out alive in the end.

Luv :apple:

I said where is was in my FAQ!

Please guys READ CAREFULLY or your'll mess up your phones!

User (ie your name on your mac)>Library>iTunes>iPhone Software upgrade

Then you just select the firmware. There is even an iPod folder so you don't get confused!

i successfully pwnd my iPhone with the 2.0 Beta, but now my iPhone cant connect to AT&T. when i built the custom .ipsw, i checked the Activate checkbox. how do i get it to work?

You did chose to unlock it? and neuter the baseband?

If not or your not sure don't worry...

Just go into bootneuter! WAIT for it to unload commcenter and then make sure neuter and unlock and "On" and it should work!

As I understand it your meant to pwn your phone on 1.1.4 then restore to 1.1.4 pwned custom firmware THEN restore to 2.0 pwned custom firmware.

So that is where you may have gone wrong - try that. Restore back to 1.1.4 custom firmware then go back up to 2.0 custom.

Spinstorm, what link on my desktop are you talking about? I dont know where to access those bootloader files....

The link for bootloaders in the main thread next to all the other links. Then you can save them to your desktop so you can select them in the application when it asks.

It may be much easier just to search for the whole thing as a torrent on thepiratebay!

I just want to unlock my phone and play with the cool programs from installer....
Can Pwnage do this for me without restoring and erasing everything I have. Meh!

When i tried to Pwn lastnight, i got through the first bit of pwning my phone, but when i tried to create a custom firmware using ipsw builder, it kept going though most of the actions, then failing on the last bits, anybody know how to get around it?

I was following the FAQ instructions to the tea.
Maybe if i tried to build using a downloaded 1.1.4 instead of the one already in my library?
