Yeah, I tried that, unfortunately. I got that suggestion from the earlier posts. I think that I have tried every permutation of connections that I have, including HDMI, DVI, and VGA.

Hmm.

So, anybody who wants to comment, where should I go from here? Is there someone specific that I should talk to?

If there is any particular debugging information that is necessary, I'm happy to collect it.

Thanks!

Any advice on which of these cards might respond more favorably to flash?

or

I realize most people haven't probably tried them specifically, but just wondering if, in general, either brand is known to respond well, or maybe one has issues?

Also, I am really new to this and have tried to read, but just so I can directly ask. I "should"(I realize those are big quotes) be able to flash a 4870 with the generic 4870 ROM that others have had success with, and should not need to do any kind of kext manipulation to have it work? Milage varying per card of course, but as a generality.

Thanks for all this great info!

Does anyone know if I can get a non-Apple 4870 with a mini displayport that can be flashed to use in a Mac Pro and with a 24" LED ACD?

There aren't any. There are only two video cards with a mini displayport in existence, and  makes both of them.

I did, and thanks. I'm not running mudbox so it doesn't affect me, but I would like to see us closer to full functionality unlocked by flashing. I'd offer to test, but I don't have a lot of money to splash out on cards right now, and my 4870 is that Sapphire 1 GB board.

First of all, thanks all for the wonderful info posted. I manage to flash my XFX 4870 to work on my Mac Pro.

So far so good. But I experience the screen will flick white for split second once a while. Also, how to check the core/mem speed of the flashed card?

Only place is in Windows.

The brilliant software from Thomas Perrier to clock Mac cards has not been updated since G5 days. It was our only option.

Thanks for the reply, yeah the ATIccelerator II was last used with my 9800XT for G4.

Done the reboot with windows. core 775Mhz, mem 950Mhz.

Any updates on your card? I'm considering getting the card you have if you get it working properly. Thanks!!!!

Nope, so far the card is detected, and the driver loads, but EDID signals are getting mis-routed, causing monitors to fail to be detected. None of the three outputs works.

I'd love to work on this further, but I seem to have stumped everyone here.

Actually, I do have a VGA display, and I tested with it. I have 2 24" LCDs, one with VGA and DVI, the other with HDMI, DVI, and VGA. Tried connecting both, via VGA and DVI, and with various adapters.

probably a dumb question but,

is there a copy of any of the :apple: roms from the :apple: card? (either the 512 or the 1 gig from apple?) (if they make a 1 gig card yet?)

if not then:

what rom is the best one to flash this card with?

card is 4870 model hd-487A-zhfc
thanks

feel free to do some reading

like Dorothy, you are already wearing the Ruby Slippers.

you can either figure it out yourself from some research here, or wait for Glenda to come spoon feed it to you
