So as it was told in 4890 thread there are 2 kinds of sapph4870 11133-19-20r
with qimonda memory and with hynix. Probably there are several more board revisions.
Anyway if you have card with:
pn: 288-1E131-000SA
sku: 11133-19
I got good news for you
today i`ve recieved bios pack from sapph support and made version for qimonda. works for me but testing is required. Later i`ll publish hynix version.
In attachment pc and mac bioses, but please make shure that you got qimonda memory not hynix.
I have this card (288-1E131-000SA, qimonda memory, sku 11133-19) and flashed the sapphire 1GB ROM from here:
http://groths.se/atiflashingtool/ROMS.zip
This booted in my mac and even worked fairly well on dragon age, but after some period of time would get noise elements flashing on the screen, one time I got white noise covering the entire screen, random stuff. So, I tried the qimonda ROM in this post and this ROM bricked my card. It is back to the PC for me. Maybe there is some other difference...but anyone using this should beware.
Chaos,
Thanks for the heads-up on the corrupted ROM. I have been perfectly happy with how my 4870 has been working just simply using the virgin 4870.ROM file (Apple's pure 4870 ROM). So, I've not been inclined to flash using the ROM file you created. I just deleted it from my HD so I wouldn't accidentally end up using it in the future.
As for Quartz Extreme... I'm running Snow Leopard and, frankly, when I open System Profiler, the info for my card and monitors doesn't say anything about Quartz Extreme at all:
ATI Radeon HD 4870:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4870
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-1
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 512 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x9440
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B7710C-176
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.318
Displays:
Cinema HD:
Resolution: 1920 x 1200
Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Rotation: Supported
SyncMaster:
Resolution: 768 x 1024 @ 75 Hz
Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Rotation: 90
However, I did download a Utility Program that checks to see if Quartz Extreme is working and it shows Quartz Extreme acceleration for both of my displays.
I guess I just got lucky in buying the right 512MB card. Actually, only a little bit lucky. I read these topics over and over again and it seemed the XFX cards ending in HFC were the most compatible. So, when I found a 512MB XFX card (YHFC) for $134.99 shipped, I jumped on it. Unfortunately, TigerDirect has since sold out (within a day or so of me placing my order).

Cindori and the other rom/flashing experts may be interested in this
i recently bought and flashed a 4870 without realising that DVI-VGA adapters were not supported and had been thinking that my problems were related to using a rom that was not fully compatible with my card.
im able to get one monitor working through a dvi to vga adapter, but only if my other monitor is also plugged in ( both identical monitors both via VGA adapters) without the second monitor plugged in the first gives an error "frequency out of range"
it seemed to me that the card was detecting the display from one socket and setting correct resolution/refresh rate ect on the other, cant be specific what gave me this impression, at the time i was trying all sorts to get them both working, at some points using one monitor on my second card.
anyway dont know if thats any help to anyone who knows more about the roms than me, help to be able to give vga support?
SYSTEM spec: mac pro 1.1 running SL 10.6.2/windows 7
flashed card: xfx HD 4870 zwfl ver C.0 flashed to ZWFL/ZWFC rom downloaded from the start of this thread.
second card HD 2600 XT (apple)
cheers to everyone who has worked on making it posible for us mac users to get reasonably priced graphics cards
@fritzflint
