If thief has fingerprint and dumps ipad info before I lock it he now has a fingerprint to access all other devices with a finger print.
And thanks to you I have found what I was looking for. Apple support.
Manage your Touch ID settings
Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode to manage these settings:
Press the Home button using Touch ID to unlock your device. To unlock your device using Touch ID without pressing the Home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button and turn on Rest Finger to
- Turn Touch ID on or off for Passcode, iTunes & App Store, or Apple Pay.
- Enroll up to five fingerprints. Each new print might make fingerprint recognition take slightly longer.
- Tap a fingerprint to rename it.
- Swipe to delete a fingerprint.
- Identify a fingerprint in the list by touching the Home button. The matching print in the list will be highlighted briefly.

I still won't set a fingerprint as I won't have time to do this if robbed at gunpoint.
My issue with a finger print for security still exists as being robbed at gunpoint means the thief has pin code and finger print which I won't be able to lock that quickly. If thief has fingerprint and dumps ipad info before I lock it he now has a fingerprint to access all other devices with a finger print.
It still leads to more danger of being kidnapped not for the device but for the info on the portable device.
I prefer a code and no finger print but as I said to each his own. I will be buying a mini 5 and not setting the finger print. As I don't bring valuable info out of the home thinking a finger print protects better then a six digit code.
I think most people don't understand my point a 399 iPad is just that 399 I don't care if a theif takes that rather then shoot me for a code or a fingerprint.
And a code has no identity a fingerprint does.
Although I suppose you could use all ten fingers one for each of your devices. So one stolen device does not imply easy access to the other nine. Unless the thief decided to kidnap you after viewing the ipad and seeing how nice your house looks like.
A buddy of mine always has a wad of cash about 300 in 5's 10's 20's he would toss it left and run right. Handing an ipad with a password written on it always seemed like a version of that to me.
nope but one more weakness is 5 fingerprints can be programmed so if you have a bad roommate or relative and you lapse they could slip in a fingerprint id. if only a six digit password and only 1 allowed only you have it and can change it when you want.
I agree and One of the features was fingerprint someone wanted face id. I said I don't want either and needed to wait to see if I can buy one with a bypass option and everyone else freaked out.I don’t want to be the one, but isn’t this thread supposed to be for discussing the iPad Mini 5?

I am willing to go back delete all my posts about this. Since I did learn I don't have to use the fingerprint option. I would like to ask if anyone has tried the apple pencil on it and does it work well.

I am in the market for a new mini 5
my mini 3 is long in the tooth.
I wanted feedback on use with apple pencil.
Do you have a store that you can go to and try it? I played with the pencil in Notes for a few minutes and liked the experience. I think I will end up using the pencil more on the Mini 5 than I have on any of my iPad Pros. You’re the only one who can really decide if it works for you for what you want to do.
I wrote with ink and pencil, changed pencil color. I didn’t notice any lag and the writing looked like my normal writing with a pen or pencil.
yeah I am 15 miles from an apple store.
I did find logitech makes one for less but I am pretty sure I will be wanting one or the other.
My iPad mini 3 was a very nice piece of gear worked for years with zero issues. This mini 5 will be a good update
What does everyone think about the release and design of the mini 5 here? I honestly can’t stand the home button look or (the home button period,) but I’m more annoyed they didn’t add 4-speakers, 4K 60fps, 12mp camera, portrait mode, ProMotion... and they still have the mini at a ridiculous high price (especially compared to the 2018 iPad.)
I think I’d have ignored the home button design IF Apple had added those features and especially 4-speakers and Promotion.
Lately it’s seeming like 2018-2019 for all Apple products (except iPhone) have been/will be regurgitated designs with just spec bumps.
If I could get the iPad mini 5 for $250-275... I maybe would grab one then. But part of me wonders if Apple will upgrade the mini ever again and if I should wait still.
Anyone thinking in 2-4 years Apple will give a true redesign and upgrade to the mini 5, and are any of you thinking you might wait?
K.

If you read further down, you see I catch myself nitpicking and forgot I wanted this exact iPad Mini... what was the point of your post, since I already adjusted my initial thoughts? We all thought the mini was dead. just be happy they upgraded it.
I received my mini three days ago. It was splurge; I didn't really need to upgrade my older mini 4. But I'm surprised how much snappier it is, how much quicker Touch ID is, how much brighter the screen is, and I'm quite happy with it.
I understand that is a common thing to believe. But I have extensive experience with iPads (since day-1 of gen-1) and Android tablets produced within the past 2-3 years and depending upon the use case (that is the important point) they can be on-par or even superior to the iPad (even the iPad Pro).If you were thinking of a phone, I'd recommend that you at least seriously consider Samsung. For a tablet, Apple is the only way to go. Android for the most part is a dead duck in that regard. Even the Tab S4, which is at the very top of a really lousy heap, misses the mark by a country mile.
The mini 5 vs. the Tab A, in movie terms, is akin to a boxing bout in which we have Sylvester Stallone as Rocky in one corner pitted against Paul Reubens as Pee-Wee Herman in the other.

She's a fabulous nerd.My favourite tech reviewer has posted her take on the new mini. I love this woman:
What's interesting? The speed difference? Or am I missing something obvious? This is interesting:

Even battle-hardened Android reviewers have given up and invariably tell their followers to buy iPads. The Android tablet is dying and there's no way it will be brought back to life.
