Capcom confirmed that it's a universal purchase for iPhone 15 Pro, M1 or newer iPads, and M1 or newer Macs. If you buy it for one, you can redownload for all three platforms so long as you have a compatible device. Cloud saves are also supported across the three platforms.
That’s actually pretty fantastic.

That's Apple & Google's business plan, not mine.

Are you questioning the business decisions of a $2.69 trillion & $1.63 trillion company?

They've nearing or saturated the casual gaming market. They're expanding to the next market adjacent .

Why go through the trouble of R&D ray tracing chips for iPhone and Android & finance the Capcom port if not to triple A game on them?

It may be surprising to many but few want to stock pile the hardware you already possess. They want to game on whatever they have now or scheduled to have.
Their value comes from the stock market which can always change. And it doesn’t mean that they are doing everything right cause they are worth trillion of dollars. I don’t bet on apple here.
Addendum: The game doesn’t run on my 2k+ phone which isn‘t even one year old. No, that’s not the way to win new customers.

Where is the reporter seeing the price in the app store? I can’t find anything for the life of me

It's also a remaster/remake of a game that came out in 2005. I think I have already paid for remakes of this game two times already.

Is Capcom turning into Nintendo with these constant remakes and re-releases?

If one game can be played on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, then I'll buy it. But only on iPhone platform for $60? Really and seriously?
The $60 RE4 is a universal purchase and includes the Mac. It also has cross saves.

RE:Village pricing that came or leaked out earlier was less than RE4, but is a single platform purchase only with Mac and iOS purchases being seperate.

I think this price for an iPhone game will only work if it can also be played on iPad and especially ATV. Essentially like a Switch.

No, you have paid for remasters. This remake has been critically applauded by gamers and gaming journalists. Is truly fantastic.

It means the game can be downloaded for free but you'll only be able to play a small portion to test the performance on your device. If you're happy with the performance then you can pay to unlock the full game.

Capcom's official page has more information.

I guess Capcom calls this "Universal Purchase" (as an explicit feature) and calls it out specifically under system requirements.

For the same reason they put insane levels of video and photography capabilities in a phone:
Most persons who buy smartphones with high-end cameras do so to take people photos of family & friends.

They're after the convenience factor. The best camera you can ever own is the one with you always.

Others do not see the value of it as they use the camera to document a can of pork & beans to iMessage it to the spouse to verify if that is what they want.
It's aspirational. Yet most people who mindlessly finance an iPhone Pro they can't actually afford aren't going to create photography worthy of a gallery show or shoot the next indie sensation. They're going to take pictures of their kids. And then they'll go back to playing Candy Crush.
Rarely will they use it to create "art" but Apple's making headways in that respect by providing the framework to use it for professional productions. There is an advantage of having a camera that compact and light weight in certain shoot environments.

Financing at 0% interest via 24/36/48 month carrier plans is a great on the cash flow. That's what made smartphones affordable to more people than anyone buying a digital camera or PC paying up front.

That business model has been proven successful for any large purchases such as homes, cars, etc.

Heck, if the $5,999 Canon EOS R3 & $19,999 RF 1200mm f/8.0 lens could be paid via 48 month carrier plan I'd have bought it at launch without even thinking.

$60 RE4 is absurd to anyone with a gaming PC & console but for anyone without it then it's worth its price as they avoid buying what you already have.

Two days ago there was a story on this site about Baldur's Gate 3 being released for the Mac for $60. No one complained about the price.

Now Resident Evil 4 is announced for Mac for $60 and people get incredibly upset, purely because the game can also be played on iOS.

The same thing happened when Nintendo released a $10 Mario game on iOS. Just shows how putting software on the App Store completely devalues it.

Make sense. No way I’d ever play a console game on an iPhone but I get it. It costs money and time to port it. So I get it why it’s full price. But I’m good. Already played it on my PS4 Pro lol
I played it already on my Gamecube back in 2005.

Is this a full on remake of the original, or just a port with enhanced graphics? $60 is a lot more bearable if it’s a full remake, I suppose. Still a hard sell for me though, even if I can play it on my iPhone and Mac.

The market cap is an indicator of investor's confidence for the future.

No iPhone surpasses a $1799 MSRP.

The game is for iPhones with ray tracing & 8GB RAM.

Why are you all mad about? Don't you already have a gaming PC or console already?

The game's for anyone who does not own a gaming PC & console.

Yeah that’s what it says on the article. But I can’t find this section on my ipad or iphone. Where is it?
Scroll down until you see the In-App Purchases tab

The point of view I am writing from is from the business' perspective.

Physical distribution is additional cost overhead. Steam, App Store, Play Store and other distribution channels removed that expense. I would not be surprised that digital price subsidizes some of the physical cost.

The majority of gamers still care about physical as the majority of game sales on Nintendo Switch and PS4/5 are physical.

It's a different story on PC as thanks to Apple essentially killing disc drives on PCs with the late 2012 iMac and Macbook Airs we don't have physical copies anymore when in the past even with Steam being around we still had lots of physical PC games.

To Capcom and other publishers it is not something they want to return to.

If that were true they wouldn't be teaming up with companies like Limited Run to do physical retail copies of smaller more niche titles.

Few users care for it. Example would be Netflix & other streamers vs blu-ray & DVD sales. Consumer behavior indicates that not everyone cares about content preservation.

Again...majority of game sales on PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch being physical beg to differ. The only platform where your "consumer behavior" statement holds true is Xbox, but that's not from digital game sales but primarily Game Pass subscriptions. It's why everytime a new game comes to Xbox the first question is always "is it day one on Game Pass?"

They are more interested in convenience and cost savings.

Ah yes...digital is certainly more convenient. Playing a game by just putting in a disc?! How barbaric! It's a lot more convenient just searching for a game on the digital store and waiting hours for it to download.

And this isn't even factoring in the fact eventually said console storefront WILL close, meaning all those digital games are gone with no way to buy them or in some cases no longer downloadable, while the physical owners can just put the game in and go even long after the store shuts down.

The gamers attending them are not representative of the whole user base.

In 2022, 94% of all gaming sales were digital. Consoles had 72% digital sales.

According to that ERA report 30% of that was free to play mobile games, so I think the numbers are a little misleading in that report, especially given the numbers physical copies of Nintendo games do.
